@akv5175: you're lucky in a way. I wish I could go back to the first time I heard this song. I'm in my 40's and first heard this in 6th grade. I have so many memories, good & bad, attached to Led Zeppelin that I can't imagine what life would've been without them.
If you really like this and don't know much more, don't let anyone tell you "Oh buy THIS ALBUM first..." or whatever. It's all as good as this.

@skb0rzn: yeah, Puscifer's cool shite. I'm still more of a fan of Maynard's work w/ Tool and APC. Especially Tool, the frame of mind he gets into for Tool lyrics & performances is just surreal. A few rock singers have played w/ alternate personae over the years, most have flopped (Bono=Mephisto? Ha, ha ha). Excepting Bowie, from whom this expression of Rock Performance came forth, Maynard's on-record/onstage presentation is the most intense, provocative & artistic statement in music.

Recently I was thinking about how I react to my long-standing, personal favorite bands (Led Zep, Rush, Genesis, Sonic Youth) differently now than when I was young. At age 11, when I got LZII, it was very visceral, all about the "heaviness". Now I appreciate the light & shade, slower, more melodic side of all music, but esp. Zep for their - really Page's - ingenious way with a progression that a lesser artist wouldn't see.

@shane28373 Recordings were done with reel to reel analog tech on this record. 99% of the music that comes out today is recorded with protools and it allows the band members to punch in as many times as they want. In order to punch someone in with reel to reel recording tech is they would have to physically take the tape and splice it together. So alot of old recordings are done in one take, where the newer recordings are many takes blended together to make one. I agree with you.
@ForTheFallen2000: The skills required to create a masterful recording in today's studio - Pro Tools, D/A converters, digital editing, etc - are wide and varied. And much *different* than analog recording - not better/worse.
I don't mean to disrespect you, but I believe those who assume the superiority of analog & it's messy, unproductive & chaotic workflow are Luddites. Every aspect of analog can now be emulated & no one can tell the difference. 1's and 0's are here to stay.
@chaote I'm saying that led Zepp prob. went in a did a couple takes and then kept the one they liked, they didnt punch in, take a buch of takes and put them together to make one take.

It's a fact of life: older people will always complain about what younger people like. For many reasons but a lot comes down to jealousy & insecurity.
Most peeps my age can't deal with the fact that Rock Is Dead. And so what? It lasted too long anyway. Now its time for your generation's music & whatever comes out, that's great.

They are amazing and unique and I love this song, but I also found some new people to listen to, Gentle Giant, Selda, Banco Del Mutuso Soccorso, and my favorite Van Der Graaf Generator. I will always love most of Zepplin.
I never knew so many people realized that led zeppelin refered to LOTR. Maybe this song is where the director got his idea to call the evil city Mordor

@n697dt When my aorta burst I went to surgery, and after the Dr put a stint in my back and into my lung, and over 16 cc's of fluid poured out of my lung in less than minute..He said it was from smoking....(all I smoked was pot...) and he said that if people saw what he saw on a daily basis they wouldnt have a hard time quitting at all....Dont get me wrong, I loved what it did for my head, but thats all it took to straighten me out and clear me up for good. Led Zeppelin were nice using references to Tolkien books in these songs... even in Stairway to Heaven they refer to the prohibition to Numeronean to go to the west (Silmarillion) "There is a feeling I get when I look to the west and my spirit is crying for freedom".

@n697dt When my aorta burst I went to surgery, and after the Dr put a stint in my back and into my lung, and over 16 cc's of fluid poured out of my lung in less than minute..He said it was from smoking....(all I smoked was pot...) and he said that if people saw what he saw on a daily basis they wouldnt have a hard time quitting at all....Dont get me wrong, I loved what it did for my head, but thats all it took to straighten me out and clear me up for good. Its a lot less expensive also this way
