This scene should never have been cut from the film. All I can say is that a man must have been doing the cuting. Why leave in the Madonna singing scene? My favourite scene is in the prison when Bridget reaches across the table to Mark and he just can't look at her, as he still loves her.
This scene is my fav in the movie. I don't buy what the director says about bringing it too far down. I think it would have helped the movie a lot. And Darcy is so charming in it - so tender. The movie needed more tenderness and less ridiculousness.
@sandrafaith There will be a third movie, too bad she won't come back T_T Man, the only serious (and good) scene in the whole movie, they cut it off. Bridget and Mark looked so out of character the whole time!
I totally agree, they shouldn't had cut this scene, that is one of the best scenes in the book!! They fucked all the script up when in the movie they turned Rebeca into a lesbian woman!! it is o.k that they decided to bring Daniel Cleaver back again in the story but who the hell believes that Rebeca is in love with BJ?? C'mon! I love the books, and I tthink that those whom heve read the book and loved it are pretty dissapointed with the movie's final result.HUGE MISTAKE
lol i think cause mark brought rebecca bridget should have thought to really p!ss mark off she should have brought daniel XD classic scene that would have been.
*Sniff* *Sniff* so heartbreaking ='(( What a painfully lovable scene! Why, oh why did they cut that out?? This explains a lot of things, I agree with all of you...it shows how deeply the breakup affected Bridget and Mark and how truly they wanted to patch things up; moreover it adds that bit of seriousness that balances the plot properly. AND THEY CUT IT, DAMN! =[
P.S.: Can anyone write the dialogue? I got most of it, but since english is not my m.language, I still missed some parts =(
Anyway...you're asking me if that helps?? You have NO idea how happy you made me, thank you SO, SO MUCH!!!! You've been extremely kind and I do appreciate this a lot!
@AkaneHosaki It's quite all right! Happy to have helped. As I said, I have a file that is comprised of all the subtitles, so it was a matter of copying and pasting into the window.
@sandrafaith If that helps?? Oh my, you've been SO kind!! Thank you very, very much!! (for the subtitles and, of course, uploading this amazing video in the first place)
It would have been better all the way round if they followed the book! It is a birthday party she goes to and Darcy is there. The book is WAY better. This movie was a disappointment since it really ruined the development of the characters. Don't see why they had to change the whole premise.
@macgillacuddy I agree. The book is way better. I particularly would have liked the scene at the end, where Bridget and Mark scare each other thinking the other's the Bullet Man... and not just because Mark's naked in that scene... :)
@XXstilletoXX From the director, from the deleted scene, which I snipped out because it makes me want to punch things: "One of the things in Bridget is the combination of comedy and sadness, of reality and fun. Now the sequence that comes up now is one of the largest sequences that we actually had to cut from the movie. It's a sequence in which Bridget has already separated from Mark Darcy and they end up at the same christening. ... " [next comment]
@sandrafaith "...Here we see Bridget as she sees Mark with his assistant, Rebecca, playing with children, and eventually has an absolutely hilarious, but bittersweet scene with Mark, in which he finds her mobile phone, and they end up speaking to each other. ... " [next comment]
@sandrafaith "...In the movie, when it was all together, we found that this, after the sadness of breaking up, brought the film so far down that even Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver couldnt push us up again. So we had to cut it out, and we went to Thailand a lot quicker. But in itself, it's a truly marvelous sequence."
I totally agree with previous comments about THIS scene being pivotal for the movie. Too serious? Really, the first bits are funny as hell. Thanks so much for uploading it . I'm watching Bridget 1 this instant :D
This scene should never have been cut, imho. Not only is the "seriousness" balanced by the humorous moments, it's also a very important scene that both drives the plot and increases character development. In the theatrical release, viewers are left to conclude (inaccurately) that Mark Darcy is, indeed, a bit of a cold fish for never even TRYING to reconcile with Bridget. This scene reconciles the reality of his character with our perception of him. Thanks for loading. :-)
I agree--while Mark's pain is evident (or rather, as evident as it cam be for such a taciturn man) during the breakup scene, this scene helps to explain why his emotions are so high at the Serpentine (the gallery) and yes, I do believe his efforts to try to talk to her would have rounded out his character a little, made him a bit warmer and therefore given the viewer a better idea of what Bridget sees in him. I feel like Mark got shorted in this movie a lot. u_u
Is there any way to get the entire movie, without all of the edits. I love this part of the movie and it seems to be a very crucial part in the movie. He was going to ask her to marry him right then I believe. Also, when I saw the movie I always wondered what he did with that key she gave him. They should not have cut this very vital scene. Where can I get these edited scenes? Please let me know.
There is no 'director's cut' available that I know of with the edited scenes in place. The edited scenes themselves can be found on the DVD. (And yes, I agree that he was possibly going to ask her to marry him.)
I'm in love again too. I recently saw both of these movies for the first time, and I can't stop watching them. I sure hope Bridget Jones 3 will be good.
so cute when she was hiding behind that guy's back...lol...damn she reminds me of my friend...only difference is that my friend isn't as adorably dainty as she is. lol..hard to imagine what kind of power women can hold on men...lol...cause i've seen prettier girls...but aura-wise...jacinda's character here is just plain unbeatable. too bad she's a lesbo...but that doesn't matter...lol..cause it's just a movie.
lol..i was bored one day and i watched it with my sister. i didn't know jacinda barrett was in it...MY GOD SHE IS SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL. slightly pink dress...with that cute white and pink pea coat....jesus christ...HOOAH! i fell in love with her character here...an accomplished BUT level headed woman...she's being chased by kids all over...she looked sooo damn charming! lol...her shoes changed from flat to high heels-editing/movie error. GOSH SHE'S BEAUTIFUL
Oh God,if I was at Bridget's place. I would've shed tears. that was really...OUCH! mean of Mark... :(( but yeah I agree, the prison scene was more heartbreaking than this.
i dont understand why they took some really great scenes out of this film , the book is amazing ! and was wishing these parts where in the film , thank you so much for putting these on here youve made my day ! :D
"'Men Are From Mars' is a remarkable piece of work." Referring to the book 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' by John Gray--aka one of Bridget's copious self-help books--which is why she chuckles.
Also, did anyone else notice that Rebecca has ballet flats throughout, except the last scene when she gets in the car where suddenly she has 6inch heels on?
Should have been included. Don't really get the director's rationale that it was too depressing. For me it actually gave some sense that the characters could sort it out.I found the prison scene(and what was not said) to be more hearbreaking than this.
i luv all the scenes in these movies....how come they delete any of the scenes especially when bridget and mark had the encounters. i'd love to see all the deleted scenes if you have them all. thank you...thank you.
I have uploaded quite a few of them here, mostly the ones that aren't available on the US DVDs, plus a trailer for EOR that has a lot of stuff that didn't actually make it into the movie. Check out the links in the "More From: sandrafaith" section to the right there.
Beautiful video, I do not have the dvd that misfortune! Sorry, as are Italian, I did not understand well what happens, then those who are kind enough to kindly explain what is happening, what you say and who is the child who is being baptized? please, please, please

I have the DVD and have watched this scene many times. I agree it shouldn't have been cut. Partial:
Bridget: "I was just trying to ring myself on the phone so I could find it... but obviously... now I have. Why don't I come and get it then?"
[Mark approaches her.]
B: "Thanks."
M: "You're welcome."
[They stand looking at one another.]
B: "Can't just... stand here looking at each other forever... people will start to worry."
sandrafaith 2 years ago
M: "Right." [pause] "It's very nice to see you."
B: "Oh, it's very nice to see you too."
M: "I've been doing a lot of thinking since our last... encounter." [pause] "'Men Are From Mars' is a remarkable piece of work."
[She laughs.]
M: "It's made me... It's made me wonder whether... perhaps... despite events... circumstances and appearances--"
[phone rings and it is Daniel, Mark answers... I don't have that bit transcribed, but I hope this helps. I had to redo it because of the ellipses.]
