@TheOtose portuguese and spanish have many common words... really much of them. But actually some similar words have completely different things, althought spanish and portugese are something like brother-languages.
I love Jose he such a great character, I love him the best in the Movie The 3 Caballeros with Donald and Panchito. I want to try and talk with a Brazilian person, and see how much words Portuguese and Spanish have in common. From this video alone I catch a few words and understand them, others I can only assume what they mean.
lool, I never though that EVEN in the american version Jose is in portuguese, geeez, I bet no one understood that when they launched the episode in the same way I couldnt understand donald when I was a child (yes, i'm brazilian x3)
I know, right? This is my #1 favorite Disney movie because of the art,the characters, the history behind the countries,& epic information about the countries of Brasil & Mexico.
In some aspects, portuguese is close to the english language, but in others, is different.. Exemple: ''Beaultiful girl'' means ''Garota bonita", but the noun comes first than the adjective.. Literaly, in english it would be ''Girl beaultiful'', and it doesn't make sense..
Another example: ''Giant terrifying worm from Alaska'' means ''Minhoca gigante aterrorizante do Alaska''. If it would be writen like english, it would be weired: ''Gigante aterrorizante minhoca do Alaska"
I have seen all 50 animated Disney films & this one (Saludos Amigos) is one of the funniest films Disney done, only rivaled by Robin Hood and Lilo & Stitch.
We fought fascism together back in WWII. Not surprisingly, this pro-Brazil cartoon was first made back in 1944 when Brazilians and Americans were together fighting fascism in Italy. That's when Brazil could have easily sat the war out leasing air bases, collecting the checks, and letting the US and British do the dirty work of patroling the central Atlantic.
On a lighter note, thanks for the post, it's a darling. As a Brazilian and as an American, I love it. Cheers!
People, Let's remember that this was made in either 1942 or 44. There was no thought of globalization or accurate portrail of a country or ethinicity by anyone. Americans, Europeans, Nazis or anyone were worried or concerned about it. Of course Brazil wasn't a jungle with flaming Flamingoes (which can be found in parts of South America), but if you didin't know any better what you you assume?
I love Brasil and the welcoming spirit of the nation and the poeple and I think this capture both.
"Brasil, meu Brasil brasileiro" guys im from Brazil and we dont live in a jungle!! We just have beaches and a bit more trees!! We have everything that u have!!! C'mon im in my itouch right now!
well you know rio de janeiro is soooooo far away from the jungle....I think that NY is the most horrible jungle that you can be thrown in...Sarah from Morocco
I wish I could splash the brush onto a piece of paper and make a waterfall like that instead of an ugly paint blotch ... or that if I painted bananas they'd all turn into toucans =D
@ShadyFelineUSA It's true. We have a lot of people from every part of the world here and, at first glance, the Oriental people become a little afraid of us. They greet each other from afar and we always give hugs and throw kisses.
@Sonicthehuman0 You must search for "Chorinho", "Tico-Tico no Fubá" by Zequinha de Abreu and "Aquarela do Brasil" by Ary Barroso. You can find "Aquarela do Brasil" as "Brazil" by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby or Ray Conniff.
@CanoPinto Thanks you very much! god this song influenced me to draw a pic of Jose now XD I listened to it the whole time. sorry for the late reply I never chack my youtube that often.

There is a football team here with the name of Fluminense football club. Regards !
Yes, Rio de Janeiro! Here is one of the largest urban rainforest in the world "Tijuca Forest," with a great biodiversity. The city is very beautiful, unfortunate that the violence and political corruption do not let more beautiful! From where you are?
@animallover2047 Carioca refers to those born in the CITY of Rio de Janeiro. It's in fact, a Tupi-Guarani (Brazilian Indian) word wich means "House of the white people", Cari=White (here refers the white people) + Oca=House.
José sounds (and looks) so incredibly cool when he's telling Donald how to pronounce those cool Portuguese words. This makes me want to start learning Portuguese so bad. Maybe after that I'll rewatch The Three Caballeros and get some inspiration to study Spanish. Thank you Disney, you inspire me to get educated.
Walt Disney was the best ambassador that the US ever had. I AM trying to learn português. This song 'Watercolor of Brasil' from 1939 went nowhere there until Disney created this 1942 cartoon.
'Brazil" is now a worldwide 'standard' which created the image of a beautiful, exotic and carefree Brasil.

@Jvive3o5 The brasilians have a diferent acent from the original portuguese language, maybe because of the tropics loool. I am portuguese, and I think its cooler the portuguese of Brasil, they speak like they dance Samba ;)
@Jvive3o5 Our accent here in Brazil is very different from the portuguese people. They speak a lot more pompous and in a lot more formalist way. We have a more fluid way of speaking and our accent and our slangs changes a lot from a state than another but no one of them sound so rolled tongue like the portuguese people.
A portuguese friend of mine says that we are born from the mixture and they were born form the selfishness and because of this we are so poor and happy and their rich and sad =)

ISSO MESMO MACIEL, DEVE-SE RECRIAR O ESTADO DA GUANABARA E O RIO AFUNDAR CADA VEZ MAIS!
O GOVERNO ESTADUAL É VOLTADO SÓ PRA VCs CARIOCAS(SOU DO INTERIOR DO ESTADO)!
"Thank you very much. The Donald Duck?? hahaha. Oh come on, give me a hug! Like those ones - a 'rib breaker', a good carioca hug, a good friendly hug... Welcome, my dear. The Donald Duck, look that. Let's go out. You're gonna meet Rio. We're going to every places... We are going to Tijuca, Copacabana, Urca, Salgueiro, Laranjeiras (...) Leme, Leblon, Gávea, Pão de Açúcar... and Corcovado!"
That song's called "Aquarela do Brasil", composed by Ary Barroso in 1939. You can probably find it right here on youtube or on any P2P searching tool such as ARES or EMULE.
You can search for "Aquarela do Brasil" (Watercolor of Brasil) of Ary Barroso, a very tradicional song here, written in 1939. You can find in youtube lots of artists interpreting that.

O GOVERNO ESTADUAL É VOLTADO SÓ PRA VCs CARIOCAS(SOU DO INTERIOR DO ESTADO)!

Me explica o que é ridiculo?
Não entendi?
Vai estudar história e depois venha me criticar.
l1maciel 2 years ago
ppfilizzola 2 years ago

A cena é ótima. Fosse hoje seria proibida.

I just thought of something; what does Joe Carioca say when the film is revoiced for portugese?
JPLOWMAN2 2 years ago
Actually, I'm fairly certain the film is the exact same in both languages. The language barrier joke works both ways like that.

He says:
"Gentleman, here is my card."
"Do you have one?"
We are going to Tijuca, Copacabana, Urca, Salgueiro, Laranjeiras (...) Leme, Leblon, Gávea, Pão de Açúcar... and Corcovado!"

does anyone know where i can find this song?
i've always loved it; very nostalgic. ^^
PinkMushroom 3 years ago
That song's called "Aquarela do Brasil", composed by Ary Barroso in 1939. You can probably find it right here on youtube or on any P2P searching tool such as ARES or EMULE.
thiagoene 3 years ago
You can search for "Aquarela do Brasil" (Watercolor of Brasil) of Ary Barroso, a very tradicional song here, written in 1939. You can find in youtube lots of artists interpreting that.
Saudações brazucas!
