i say this as a possitive critic,I'm Belgium, from Antwerp,I do not understand half off the places you say ,sorry, may in future a better articulation, the places you chow look interesthing, greetings
Note to American uploader or presenter: it is spelt "Grand Place" but pronounced a bit like "Graw-n-d - Plass" not as you pronounced it like "are you coming round to my place tonight". And Bruxelles if you are French - I won't get into the Flanders and Wallonian dispute!!!! Beautiful city!! Just wish Americans pronouned places properly!
@MovieMad007 im sure there are a lot of places and names of the countries in the world the names of which sound differently in your own language in comparison to how they are called by the locals. i don't understand why you are getting so defensive... americans pronounce the places as their language permits. personally i speak 4 other languages and 2 other ones would call that same place differently. some more traveling and knowledge of other languages from your part may cure your concerns
@himakgam I am very well travelled thankyou lol!! Could list them all but would be a little too long!! Used to live in Kenya 1982-85 and Trois Rivieres in Canada for 18 months when i was 2. During the years in Kenya i travelled with my parents to the Americas (South and North), Thailand, Hong Kong, and Europe. My Father then lived in Brussels for 10 years - I travelled frequently to see him. I have been to the US on holiday, Australia backpacking in 2005! So am very well travelled!!!
hi guys i'd like to visit brussels... any good tips about the city? what's the weather like at the end of january? anyone knows a good central hotel and not very expensive? thanks a lot!
@gianp1 Weather is quite cold, if you're lucky there 'll be snow, this year, 2011, there was soo much snow! It's really nice! I don't know if there's still a christmas market in January, it's beautiful, the best period's to visit Brussels is like, spring, summer and christmas time.
@gianp1 There's is a Brussels thread with hundreds of amazing pictures and info on skyscrapercityDOTcom. Plenty of locals visit that thread so if you want to know anything ask them :) If you want I'll send you a link.
About the weather: If you can you should visit during the spring or summer. In january the weather is uniformally miserable (cold, wet, grey), but from april to september it's usually really nice. It's like an entirely different country then.
Although I should add that if you only plan to visit 1 city in Belgium make sure it's Antwerp. Pretty much every tourist I've met always preferred Antwerp over Brussels as it's much more tourist friendly, much cleaner, has a more vibrant nightlife and most people there will be fairly fluent in english.
What can we say? The Belgians just give away their own capital city without a struggle. According to a study of the University of Leuven, Brussels will become a pure Islamic city in about 14 years. Already now 57 Percent of the newborn kids are Muslim (Source: Europenews / Udo Ulfkotte).
