That's what I love about DD, they don't give a shit about what people think, hence they make covers like these. I like it. Simon is a helluva front man. Since when did bands make music for the critics anyway?
i used to have a cd called "people like you" it was a great live album it contained a great version of the message with melle mel.cant find it .really great concert ,im sure it was jones beach 95.
Somebody get a gun. There is no way this is happening. I know they are losers and no longer relevant, but are they joking? Are they racists and making fun? I know some of them bi and may want flav, but come on....
@EdtheLivingDead I believe that Warren is the only one of the grp that might be a little bi'ish, but anyone seriously 'wanting' Flav besides new york? Doubt it
@jdohe They were ridding a high after the success of the wedding album, So it would seem they were confident (as they always are) that an obscure cover album was a good idea. White lines wasnt bad, and I prefer this version to Flav Flavs, but eh what can you do, still white folks covering a black song about how they dont like the po-po or fire dept
@IslandWreck Unfortunately the album stank and in respect was a massive mistake as took away the momentum that was built up from The Wedding Album. They needed to follow up The Wedding Album with another similar album rather than trainwreck that was Thank You..
@toddgei It actually really was not that bad. I think it was mainly bad timming and poor track planning. I do honestly doubt that DD was ever influenced by 911 is a joke. I did buy the CD back in the day thinking cool another DD album! But my excitement didnt last long, Lay lady lay was a good cover however you wont sell CDs on that one alone. A CD of mixes and covers would have been a better idea IMHO

Simon's body is SMOKIN' in this clip! And I love the camera on Warren's guitar to get the closeup shots. I wish they would do that on John's bass so I could watch those long fingers in action!
I am big fan of duran duran... but not quite sure what they were smoking when they decided to cover this song... whenever I listen to the 'Thank You' album, I have to skip this song...
this is why i love duran ..they have no idea of shame:P who else would think of this as a good idea..and warren would think doing it topless is sooo cool:P
I was at that recording,it is at Musique Plus in Montreal, either 93 or 95.That was weird they played this instead of a DD song, but It was during THank You so they played covers...

Simon has been quoted as saying that "Public Enemy inspires me"
he just wanted to sing one of their songs, and Nick Rhodes finally let him do it. He was having fun. We should all be so lucky...

This is one of the best tracks on Thank-You, dunno why they were slated for doing it, was a brave song to cover and it worked out great.

This was from about 1995... I bet some people use it now to apply to 9/11 of 2001.
This is a terrible song that most people hated. Why do a cover of a crap song?
jdohe 2 years ago 2
I doubt it, but only because nobody really talks about that day by saying nine one one. It's always nine eleven or September 11th, etc.

this is 911 like in "nine one one", not "nine eleven right"?
cause i also think that 9/11 was a joke/set up/inside job

No, we can hate. Because when i think of inner city blacks getting cheated from receiving help by calling 911, yeah i think of Duran Duran.
Listen to the Public Enemy version and forget this horrible disgrace to the golden age of rap.

I liked MOST of "Thank You", but THIS song was the joke. VERY RARE performance though, so I "Thank You" Blazeduran for posting. Cheers, TEKNO

What an absolute horrible performance - Duran asked for it when they covered this song - stupid idea - killed any momentum from that Wedding Album.
They should have brought back Andy and Roger Taylor at this point.
Someone get that biological freak on guitar a shirt - absolute crap guitar player.
