My father was on the USS LIBERTY AGTR-5 during the attack. He told us (his family) that he was ordered by an admiral to not speak about the attack. I have been fortunate to have him talk a little about what he seen. He recieved a purple heart and so did just about all the sailors on the liberty after the attack that survived. They did not miss many of the crew. Dad did tell me that the pilots were deadly accurate cutting comminication lines with gun fire on the first strafe run.

My father was on the USS LIBERTY AGTR-5 during the attack. He told us (his family) that he was ordered by an admiral to not speak about the attack. I have been fortunate to have him talk a little about what he seen. He recieved a purple heart and so did just about all the sailors on the liberty after the attack that survived. They did not miss many of the crew. Dad did tell me that the pilots were deadly accurate cutting comminication lines with gun fire on the first strafe run.

The USS Liberty had a huge satellite dish on a twenty-foot tower just aft of its superstructure. Satellite dishes are common today, but not in 1967. ANY pilot from ANY air force would have known the Liberty belonged to a first-world navy. The idea that it could be mistaken for an Egyptian horse carrier is an insult to our intelligence. I was alive in 1967. I have exchanged e-mail with crew members, including Jim Ennes. I asked if Allen Blue, civilian NSA employee, spoke or understood any Hebrew. According to Ennes, he did not; he was on the ship because he understood Russian.
