  • Just bought a 2011 FG XR6 traded my BAII XR6T Ute with 85K on the clock, so impressed I have gone non turbo now, have not even test driven the car I am buying, never do when I buy ford, never been let down in the past 12 years with them

  • i had a ve commodore ss sedan, what a piece of shit it was, the ve had electrical probs, axel tramp, diff probs, shit seats (you might as well get milk creats and sit on them) thirsty, i was so glad to piss it off,, since then ive got a 2010 xr6 turbo, exellent on fuel, makes crazy power in stock trim, better comfort, the last of the good commodores is the VZ series, i was a big holden fan b4 the shit billion dollar flop (VE) came out, love my new ford and its shape, the ve looks out dated bad

  • seriously if you want a shitbox deathtrap then go ahead and buy a FixOrRepairDaily

  • that'l buff right out!!

  • im a holden fan but i think it is also a great car too. Great styling and safety. Hope that i won't go road-kill in this.

  • so this is why this car most likely won't see the US shores... crash standards... as with all nice good looking cars...

  • @MadManDrivinHere - This car was/is rated 5 stars for safety, some points above certain Volvo models made around the same time too, and above the Holden Commodore (Pontiac G8) - which was sold in the US, so don't let crumple zones scare you off, they are just doing their job.

PS: If the doors don't fly open or distort on impact, but can then be opened without too much force afterwards, that is a good sign of the passenger compartments structural integrity.

  • Ford US always block Ford Oz exporting Falcon as they are partly scared of competition, and are unfamiliar with the 4 liter straight 6 (stocking spare parts etc).

  • @mif73

and u can bet your bottom dollar Aussies wont touch a front wheel drive Taurus with a barge pole. If they killed the falcon they would instantly lose their top seller here. there will always be a market for a larger RWD Aussie built sedan.

  • ok... it's just that the side hit looks... scary. I'm imagining a real life situation of a hip high SUV bumper being the obstacle and moving at 60+ mph...

  • @MadManDrivinHere

Yeah it is scary, that's a pole test and not every manufacturer will supply a car for that test.

Pole tests are very concentrated and are somewhat more forceful than a large area like an SUV front bumper which would share the crash energy across the front and rear passenger compartment, therefore the impact would not intrude as far into the cabin as the concentrated pole.

Besides, even with an SUV, there is still some give in it's front end, the pole doesn't give...

    Cheers.

  • that side impact is a bit scary.

  • Well done to Ford.. The FG is the benchmark for all Australian cars.

  • Once again Ford Australia set a new engineering benchmark, with the ANCAP report stating how the passenger compartment was in "excellent shape" after the test. To its even greater credit, this test was performed (as you can see) on the Ford Falcon XT - which comes standard with 4 airbags; you can option curtain airbags ON TOP of what's been achieved here for only $300. The curtain airbags are standard on G6E and above.

  • its the same than the fusion?????

  • No, nothing like a Fusion, the Falcon is a bigger car, the only part the same is the badge.

This car is designed and built By Ford Australia, it has a 4 Litre INLINE 6 cylinder engine with optional turbo or V8, and is rear wheel drive.

  • o, I supose that is a very cool car.

  • the old Mondeo is like the current fusion.

  • A fantastic effort in every respect. Best Aussie-built car ever......and now also the safest!

  • yea i guess thats why commodores in the 6 cylinder range are 2.1 seconds slower to 100kmh and burn the worste in its class? yea smart talk mate

the VZ/VY series looked cheap in comparison to the BA/BF and the rear of the VE can eat a dick

  • Holdens have always been lauded by the Australian media, even when they release garbage.

The VE after two years is ALREADY grossly outdated in terms of the interior and safety, and the base model cars are basically non-rusted junkers.

Ford has set a new standard in base model vehicles with the FG XT.

Holden fanboys though will always cover their ears, continue to be ignorant and insist that "Holden go better" and "Mean a lot to Australia."

Try telling that to GM...they're stuffed.

  • Spot on mate - couldn put it better.

  • damm straight!

  • @soseg 2011 XR6 0-100 7.2sec 2011 SV6 0-100 7.2sec... The old alloy-Tech 190 and 4L 6 Ford were also close!

  • @danoconnell427 i aint checked the figures on the latest v6 engines with all the sidi stuff that holden are doing now as i dont follow the holden vs ford thing anymore. my figures are based on the original FG versus the original VE... the original VE engines were shite when it came to v6s

  • @soseg Holden's V6 engines I think have always had a better sound.. partly because they rev higher. The interior of the BA/BF xr8 was a bit cheesy compared to a VZ/VY SS. The only crap V6 Holden puts in there Commodore is the 3.0L V6..

  • @danoconnell427 i dont know what planet you live on. the last decade or so interior has been better with the falcons than the commodores. sound... comes down to personal choice. holden cant make a good 6cylinder engine just like ford's in recent decades have been crap

  • @soseg ford's v8s***

  • @soseg VE has a nicer steering wheel feel and has better seats.. The seats in the FG are to flat. The old VE's interior didn't have very good colour choices, mostly grey =\. Series 2 they have fixed it though.

  • 2 weeks ago I got my G6E-T, best ford I have ever owned and best car I've ever owned. I had a W220 2002 S500, it was nowhere near as fun to drive and cost a bomb (had a total left hydraulic suspension failure on the M4, dashboard light cost $1800 installed). Now ford are as safe or safer... BRILLIANT. Anyone who likes cars and wants safety should look no further than our own home grown Ford. Well done to everyone on the best ford we have ever made.

  • @blampa

Im with you blampa, my 2008 FG XR6T is amazing. The combo of power, torque, economy and practicality are unmatched. Nothing comes close. BMW? Thrice the price! WRX? Slower and very ordinary interior. Commodore comes close but their interiors lacketh in many areas.

  • @turbodewd Interior in no longer an issue in the Series 2... They just now need a force fed V6. This is a possibility in 2014 VF with a 2.8tt V6 (Although the highest likely output in 250kw and 440nm) I'm personally a Holden fan but I have to say Fords 4L 6 is a fantastic engine!

  • 5 star safety, even without the $300 option side curtain bags in the back, more safety/gears/power/torque/much quicker and fuel efficient than the Crumbledore, yet cashed up bogans who still don't realise their precious holden is 100% owned by GM USA will still buy a VE. (not to mention the V8 is crated from Mexico). -I don't get it!! :(

  • @mif73

    It's not so cut-and-dry bud.

  • @mif73 The Commodore may me American owned like the Falcon but its built and was designed right hear in Australia, the Commodore is a much nicer looking car, its more fuel efficient and it even has more power with better handling..! Where are you getting your figures? (Holden 9.3-10L per 100km 3.6L 210kw) (Ford 10.5L per 100km 4.0L 195kw) They will both do 0-100 in 7.2 sec.. it comes down to personal option... oh and the Commodore is still Australia's beast selling car out selling the falcon.

  • @danoconnell427 oi bud dont forget the FG falcon came out in late 2008? and the VE commodore came out in early 2007 so of course the VE commodore is a better selling car but in 2009-10 the FG sold more than the VE

  • @brenwalsh123 Are.. the VE out sold the FG in 09 and 2010, Ford closed the gap a bit but holden is still ahead..

  • @danoconnell427 ford closed the gap but the FG falcon SOLD more to CLOSE the gap..... see? not long now til the FG sells more then the VE

  • @brenwalsh123 Holden still sold more cars in those years, and now with there series 2 they are going to sell thousands more than ford.

  • @danoconnell427 ok ok i was talking about the original VE commodore and ford still have the same FG falcon since 08 still on the market and theres only like 300 more VE's on the road then FG's so FG will no doubt sell more then the normal VE not the shitty series 2 VE commodore

  • @danoconnell427 Fuel consumption might be better on the Commo now, but Falc is 9.9L/100km with 195kW AND 391Nm torque. vs GM 3.6 210kW 350Nm. (It's always convenient to forget the lower torque figure of the GM engine hey? - the 3 litre is even lower, about 290Nm?)

PS: When I wrote the remarks 2 years ago, I was 100% correct at the time. Now it is the base 3 litre Commo that has the accountants of fleet owners excited and propping up the numbers. Ford doesn't have LPG ATM which hurts them too.

  • @danoconnell427 See my other reply RE: fuel economy etc, but to reply to your statement that the VE is designed and built in OZ, the Falcon is too.

VE is the only Commodore to be designed from Scratch in OZ as all previous Commos were originally designed / shaped by OPEL (Rekord and Omega).

    Cheers.

  • @mif73 Funny that , i am a mechanic , and when i have to do heads on your all aussie 5.4l , there is always a delay because one head is made in the USA and the other head is made in MEXICO , both sides are as bad as each other imo.

  • @phpfanboi I never said the Falc was ALL aussie, especially the V8, but the ford V8 engine is the most Aussie V8 engine as it is rebuilt in Broady by FPV to Ford AU specs after importing, where as the Holden V8 engine is crated from Mexico and fitted directly to the VE.

The I6 is built in Geelong.

It is most Holden heads who don't realise (or deny) the US ownership of Holden and supply of components from countries other than AU.

  • @mif73 Yeah i was just talking about the 5.4l . i was surprised the Fg did better then the Ve . Holdens billion dollar baby only managed 4 stars .

  • Fantastic. The First ever Australian built car to achieve the maximum ANCAP 5 star rating.

The new FG Falcon and G Series range are the safest Australian cars ever!

  • i know...

    isnt it great...

cheers to the guys at Ford for making the best Aussie made car ever...

(and the FG is actually safer than other large cars from Merc, BMW, Audi and VOLVO!!!)

    WELL DONE FORD!!!

  • Looks very strong and safe, especially in the front end collision test.

  • What you are seeing is automotive excellence.

  • If only people's perception could change, and rather than buying Whitegoods on Wheels (Toyotas) and Commonwhores, people can give the Ford and go.

Once they do, they will never turn back.

Ford should market properly. The car is awesome value too.

You pay $60,000 for a G6E, you get a damn nice car.

You pay $60,000 for a Beamer or Merc, you get four wheels, concrete seats and a lawnmower engine.

Sad how people put such high value on a badge.

The FG is a genuine top car of this era.
