i love Mahaila the depth of soul and integrity of her work speaks for itself and it riles me to NO end -- when they compare contemporary novices to her name let alone her talent... shame on u ...
Incredible! Wonderful version although I'm not a fan of the noises in the begining, Mahalia takes again our breath away...she uses also her voice in a very different manner than usual, and surprises me again!
My mother told me this story. English isn't my mother tongue, so I'm sorry for the mistakes.
There was a man whom Jesus said: "Push that big rock every day till I get back to you." So he was pushing the rock day after day, baking in the sun, covered in the sweat, till the devil came to him. He said: "Why do you bother and agonize yourself every day when you didn't move it a bit since the first day?"
Then the man said to the Lord: Why did you give me this burden, which I can't move at all?
And the Lord answered him: "I didn't tell you to move it, I told you only to push it. Look at yourself now: you were puny when I gave you this task and now you are big, covered in muscle and strong. Do you understand now? :) "
I love this original version of the song, it is pure and true. The lyrics fit with the chorus and make more since to me then some of the remake versions of this song. I'm so glad that you put the original version on here.... Thanks
1Joker88...please ignore my response to your text comment... I misinterpreted what you wrote and essentially agreed with you...LOL... my bad that's what you get for attempting to work and watch youtube at the same time...
This may be a stupid question, But is Inez Andrews song take from this one? Or did she remake this one and add her touch too it years after Ms. Jacksons version?
Well Mahalia collaborated with Doris Akers on this song, and both MJ's and Akers came out at the same time (and sound basically the same-same key and everything!) So I figure whatever Inez did came after this version...
@Darneloh you ain't lying!!! I was cooking when it came over the playlist!! I had to look at the computer screen to see if my 16 year old was playing other stuff!!! Pray for me too!!! (lol)
I just love this song, but anytime I listen to it, I wonder, who in the world came up with that intro? "HAA-mmmm, HAA-mmmm!" Perhaps the arranger was a little congested that morning and thought after a while, "Well hey, this sounds pretty good!"
the voice of an absolute angel

As all ways, "The Mother of Gospel" has given another great performance of what her talent was made of...(A Giift From God) natural as one could be.

I always love the way she ends this song... It's very haunting and the song over all reminds me the stories in the OT of the Bible.

I respect Mahalia's and Doris Akers' recordings of this, but think I prefer Inez Andrews' - a different take, more upbeat and 'in-your-face' blues...

I guess my question is Inez ANdrews "Lord Dont Move the Mountain" is a remake of this song just done a little differnetly?
PLATINUMFIYAH 2 years ago
Yes, it's a re-make.

Actually gospel legend has it that the two friends co-wrote the song that's why the two versions came out around the same time.

WTH is that in the intro? LMAO!

It sounds like something else to me lol! Pray for me!!! Sang Hailey lol!

You're crazy!! Really! But anyway, the intro always sounded like Cab Calloway's song, "Minnie The Moocher" to me.
