I can play ETW on full effects running smoothly in battles... with 2.8GHz quad core, 4GB DDR3 RAM (1600), 2x 4600 ATI series 1GB in crossfire.

can anyone tell be why horses are scared of squares? are they scared of other geometric shapes, such as tetrahedron or octagons....or is it only squares they fear?

What they're afraid of is infantry squares... when infantry was deployed in lines a squre was the simplest closed figure they could form, with a array of bayonets at the ready which pointyness did a lot to discourage cavalry from attacking (horses aren't stupid and really resent charging a field of razor-sharp pointy bayonets).

You might look up the term "pike square" to get a better idea of what was involved.

What's being referred to is infantry squares - back when infantry was deployed in line the simplest closed formation they could adopt was the square, and horses kind of resent running into a big field of razor-sharp pointy bayonets. Squares also had no flanks that could be turned since they were equally capable of fighting in any direction.

Squares are used because they are easy for infantry to learn and in combat conditions can quickly be assumed. Also, the higher concentration of soldiers than in a line formation allows them to better fight the calvary.
