shiny Abra encounter using Pokeradar!!

OMG! I'm pretty sure I encountered a shiny abra on pkmn gold.

However, I was five and I didnt know what a shiny was...I thought the sparkles were just some sort of attack it was using...I then fled from it!!

My sister was furious. :(

How on earth do you chain abra to 40, the chain seems to break for no reason at all. I have chained a lot and I've never had any like this before :(
