  • thing sounds like a jet mate. love the machine though. its Ace.

  • Hiya Ive had in the past a a3060,a3110, a3348 1 classica 1200, 2 newwave plus 5 w/d, softwave maxi and a a3790

present machines Servis 600, 2 a3350's, candy 38wd with problems can you help me?, a4484 on ebay jus now for 1p, and a a3260

  • Mine was the same model as the one here.Through mine (purchased from John Lewis in june 1976 for £169.00} three other friends bought the same model because it was so advanced!

  • @Mitsou13200

It spins at 800rpm, but very steady in action, you`d have thought then that we now spin at 1600rpm!!!

  • I'm a bit puzzled-when mine was tumbling ,before the light switched on to spin, it would give a 5 sec spin just before it went to spin.I notice your one dosen't. From memory, the other 3 or 4 keymatics i knew of did the same as mine on the spin dry programme

  • Ohh I WANT THAT MACHINE>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nice polka dot bloomers BTW!

  • @jetcone

bloomers...hhmmfff, thats the best Cooking Pinny!!!

  • Ohh I WANT THAT MACHINE>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • @jetcone

get your fat cheque book out, money talks!!!

  • I notice that when the machine is balancing before the spin,it goes straight into spin mode. From memory, i remember my one would attempt a spin before the spin light came on and then carry on as normal.

  • @kirri2003

What model was yours?? again it would depend on what timer sequencer was being used, even the same models had quirky little changes to programmes etc..

  • I though hoover only made sweepers for carpets n floors....

  • @Lehnerd57

Hoover UK started producing washing machines in 1948, the first one being a simple single tub!!! and the rest is history, the first twintub appeared in 1957, and the first automatic washing machine in 1961....

  • Fantastic - I love this. When I lived at home (I'm 37 years old now) my mums neighbour always had a twin tub. When I asked her why she only had a twin-tub she told me that she had a keymatic for a week and it gave her an electric shock than made her fly across the kitchen - so she went back to her twin tubs... I used to love going to her house on a Sunday and watching her do the washing with the twin tub. My mum owned the Hoover Matchbox Auto Washer A3040 and the matching tumble dryer.

  • @davey102001

Great story, not for the shocked housewife though!!! Do you remember what the twintub was, Hoover perhaps??

  • Beautiful :-)

  • What lovely condition your machine is in. I bought one of these s/hand in 1983 for £40. It was in similarly great condition and I loved the noises it made and the control panel of lights going across the front. If the filter got blocked you tilted it to one side and that got the cycle going again and the light-show continued. The programmer began to stick and my stupid girlfriend finished it off by switching it on without the water turned on just to wash one pair of knickers....I mean really.

  • I bought one of thes second hand in 1983 for £50.00. £50 would b

  • good but very noisy rpm???

  • These machines are pure magik ;-)

  • Love these kinds of washers

  • @peugteobike me too I would love to use and own one I was born at the end of the electronics and the electrons

  • could you do a wash and spin video pls ?

  • just the clicking and pump noise takes me back 25 years to my childhood and yes it scared the crap out of me too

  • that video must be from the 80s cause the washing machine looks new and still has the persil logo

  • ...now THAT is a spin cycle!

  • i wouldn't keep that in my house...seems like a little...bombish

  • I think I´ve just fell in love with this machine! LOL What a speed!

  • OMG! What a speed! And what´s that tik-tak sound at the begining?

  • Thats the programeselector finding theprograme

  • My parents had one and i took it apart when it gave up the ghost. The clicking sound is the clockwork style mechanism reading the programme on the key card (the two plastic card pushed into the slots)the mechanism looked a lot like the inside of an old music box.Heaven help anyone who lost the cards as it meant the machine wouldnt wrk. Ebay it you would make a fortune!

  • Why does it sound like an aeroplane?! If I had that machine I would have become depressed from the noise...

  • PS I think the clicking sound is the machine 'reading' the key plate.

  • I had one in 1978 - very advanced at the time. There were two 'keys' which were plastic plates, each edge of which was notched in different sequences which in turn produced different programs. Two keys = eight edges = eight different program sequences. The computer key system was expensive to replace when it broke down (think I remember about £68)

  • Sounds like a Hoover cleaner from the late 1920s.

  • My mum had one of these and it used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. It just sounds like it's going to explode.

  • I WANT ONE OF THESE!! i love my avanti w789sa washing machine.but want one of these more.

  • that machine is awesome! i love the way it's all mechanical so u can see it (and even hear it) skipping through the modes it doesn't need to do to spin, rather than these all electronic ones u get these days.

  • Is this one of those machines with the pull out things to set the program with?

  • yes the machine had keymatic style keyplates with store card you can see more of this in fotoflick

  • my grandads old hotpoint you had to pull the knob to start it

  • Hi I just wondered when using this machine would water level be the same as or similar to my Hoover a3060 and my a3110? or does it have its own unique water level for that particular model.

  • a bit too!!! powerful for an old machine. it scares me a lot.

  • Comment removed

  • tap tapping good fun

  • sounds like a jet engine

  • Had the very same machine from 1976 to 1982.Wae very advanced for it's time!

  • she gonna explode

  • y does the machine click at first and how can u programme it

  • It scares me too because of its looks, and why the hell is it so noisy. It makes strange noises too

  • This brings back so many memories!!Any chance of seeing the start of a wash,ie, whites etc?

  • Are you going to any more videos on the Hoover Keymatic?

  • Are you going to make any more videos on the Keymatic?

  • I am envious of you owning such a great collection of washing machines :-)

  • The Keymatic washing machine was particularly interesting as it featured a two-way wash action - Forty years before the Dyson Contra - Rotator!

  • ha ha no it didn't!

The dyson contra rotator has two seperate inner drums that rotate in opposite directions with two motors.

This Hoover is a conventional washing machine with one drum and one motor.

  • ha ha!

no it didnt, the dyson has two inner drums that can rotate in opposite directions and two motors!

  • it would be an 800rpm by the sound of it, my mum had the same one but with a dial, that was 800. i dont get the keymatic bit, seems very advanced, how did it work?

  • That WM don't have dial, as you noticed, that drives the washing process by lifting and lowering (like a music box pin drum) the switches of the waste pump, of the inverters and the full speed. The process on that model is operated by early transistors (relais), simpler to use but noisier due to the clicking of the switches. I think big laundry machines work still this way.

  • I imagine it was driven by relais rather than by the dial drum. It was simpler to operate (chosing program just by pressing a button instead of turning the dial in the right spot) but the switches were noisier. In today WMs this is done by Integrated Circuits, but I think some professional WMs still use relais

  • I think Keymatic is because it uses keys to be programmed, then the washing process is operated by relays switches (the clicking things)

  • Hi there I can't remember if I sent you a message but great machine. Do you know what the spin speeds are for this machine? Im glad to know that they are more people that like washing machines

  • Scare you, why? Looks very efficient to me.

  • THAT MACHINE SCARES ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T_T T_T

  • lol i can see why
