Some background about the Cruze as read on the Net:
The Chevrolet Cruze is a car model of the South Korean GM Daewoo General Motors brand. In October 2008, the Cruze as a successor to the Chevrolet Lacetti models (Europe / Asia) and Chevrolet Cobalt (USA / Canada) was presented.
In South Korea, the vehicle came in late October 2008 under the name Daewoo Lacetti on the market in Europe, the Cruze has been available since May 2009. In the U.S., the launch was 2011.
Yeah I was kinda not sure about getting the Cruze.....Now I'm sold...I currently drive a Chevy S-10 2003, I think it is about time I switch to a car....and I think the Cruze has caught my eye.
@DeadMarine1980 Its a great car. I went to check it out this past weekend at a dealer and its very roomy for a "small sedan" You can get a manual or whatever and it gets like 42 MPG with a manual and the eco 1.4l engine. Its pretty nice on the inside too. Seats are a little hard but i think they'll soften up (not the leather seats they were the cloth)
the only thing i dont like about the base model of the cruze is that it dont have air conditioning. it should have it to compete with the other cars in its class.
i am saving up for the lt turbo model. i dont like doing leases u get screwed in them and pay alot more then u should.
@Xytos would love to hear your "bad" thoughts if you ever get a chance to drive one. Tyler has tweeted about his minor issues with the vehice before but not a whole lot bad about it. The more technical things that Tyler would have rather seen done differently didnt fit into the mold of how it felt driving and harder to portray in a video. Thanks for checking it out, would love your thoughts upon driving one.
I think the Cruze is a great car. I am a huge car fanatic and an even bigger GM fanatic. My dad has worked for GM over 30 years and we've had almost every GM brand in our driveway at one point in time. I find it sad and pathetic that people like p154831 judge GM vehicles. He/she said, "im pretty sure European cars are better than gm so just stick with toyota honda hyundai acura etc". Well p154831, I'm positive those are 3 Japanese car brands and one Korean car brand not European. Well played...
I hate when people bash and bitch about American car companies, then those same people complain about the economy never recovering...It's because there is no support for the country. If yo buy a new Japanese car the Japanese get profits...please "Think" & forget about the POS Chevy Tahoe that always gave you problems. One last word of advice, Don't be the first guy in your neighborhood to get the newest car
@PGAJay92 Why should we buy products just because they are American, if they have bad and expensive products then they should go out of business and a new better car company can take it's place without paying every union worker $100/hr.. It's not our patriotic duty to buy anything with our hard earned money.. its called capitalism
@PGAJay92 It doesnt matter if you buy US cars or foreign, most of the foreign cars are built here now as well so either way your helping the economy (our workers are in these plants). I'm just tired of getting burned by companies GM in particular of pawning off substandard junk on this country.
@flatblackstrat both cars are great vehicles with great features. The 1.8 is a pretty good powertrain for the base model in the Cruze. I also agree that the Cruze is almost a midsized sedan, but it looks like Chevy has done its job because almost everyone is comparing it to the Sonata. Also the 1.4 is tuned more for mpgs and a fat useful torque band than power. With me I would rather choose the Cruze but if I was looking for a Family sedan the Sonata would be one of my top choices.
The cruze seems like a great car but it seems like you get so much more car if you went for the Hyudai Sonata. They are only about a grand different and the Hyudai comes with the GDI engine base pushing almost 200 ponies and getting over 35 MPG. This come with a crappy 1.6 probably in the 120-140 range and most likely gets the same MPG. Now I know this car has a 1.4 Turbo but, that is not on the base model. The Hyudai is also a lot bigger I think.
@flatblackstrat while I dont have exact stats I have read the Cruze is one of the biggest cars in the compact class. While I dont have alot of info on specs of the Sonata it seems to me the only reason to buy a Sonata instead of a Cruze is to get 60 more horsepower. Its hard to find a car in the same class of the Cruze with the features of a Cruze. Now we are a little biased as well :) Drive both and let us know your thoughts.
@flatblackstrat yeah i agree with you... the cruze is the biggest in the "compact class"! im pretty sure the sonata is a midsize sedan.. im pretty sure european cars are better than gm so just stick with toyota honda hyundai acura etc
@p154831 Euro cars have better interiors but they are far less reliable. The ranking goes like this
Japanese(boring design, not updated often, sometimes pricey, good reliability, great resale)
Korean(cheap to buy cheap to own, good mpg, good built quality, poor resale)
American (cheap to buy with incentives)
European (VW, Benz, BMW, Audi, Porche, Renault, Peugeot, ect... absolutely terrible reliability every single one of them accept a few models like the 328 and c class)
@p154831saying European cars are better than GM is a pretty general statement. Care to elaborate? Also the Cruze is GM's best selling car in Europe (under Opal tag) so its more European than most GM cars.
@HareChevrolet yes from previous experiences.. my wife had a 1990 toyota corolla and the thing never broke she just wanted a new car so she got a 2001 toyota camry. its still running fine and never had a problem. comparing it to my 1993 chevy corsica the thing had nothing but problems. the windshield broke 3 times in less than 18 months(design flaw!) the muffler rusted through twice compared to my wife's car which is almost 10 years old and hasnt needed one yet. one day i was ....
@p154831 a 93 Corsica and a 2000 Grand Prix are a far cry from newer model GM vehicles, let alone a new Cruze. Next time you are in the market just keep an open mind about GM vehicles. FYI we sell plenty of Toyota and Euro models that are used.
@HareChevrolet one day i was driving the corsica and smoke began to come out of steering column no joke. also my bro has a 2000 pontiac grand prix and first the tranny broke and now the axil is bent. the doors on that car are very long since it is a coupe, and now you have to push and lift up the door in order to close it. i remember when i was looking to buy a new car i went to a VW dealer and the salesman sat on the door when it was open and it didnt sag at all.
I think I look great in the Cruze ha. Really glad I got to drive it can't wait to test the higher end models and the ECO, plus switchblade key and awesome center stack. It's a real winner in my opinion.
AWESOME review! This car's a real winner. I'm a 19-year-old college student. Can't WAIT to commute in this baby! :)
