  • i have a nasopharyngeal and tourniquet video, check them out!

  • That is why it really sucks for people who have hemophilia. Putting pressure on it would hardly work, and you could bleed out in a matter of minutes.

  • this isnt good.

  • in this video it is impossible to find an artery becouse of the fat on this patient :D

  • i only see text..?

  • thx a lot expertvillage. its help me somehow (^_^)

  • if its and artery you will need to use a tourniquet/inflated blood pressure cuff until the person can get further assistance the limb can most likely be saved

  • Apply direct pressure to a bleeding wound with a gauze Pad.Wrong Always Elevate a bleeding extremity above the level of Heart.

    ha ha what losers

  • The information about a tourniquet isn't practiced anymore.

Now they want us to use a tourniquet before indirect pressure.

Surgical procedures have progressed far enough that they can save the limb even after it's had a tourniquet on it.

That's what Dr. C., our Medical Director, told us when we learned about it this year in our continuing education classes.

    I'm a Paramedic.

  • @vickiormindyb----Actually, in some countries tourniquet procedures are still practiced. They still prefer, "use only as a last resort option." This differs from every country of course. And protocols are different for each level of patient care.

  • i just stabbed myself with a really sharp kitchen knife on my hand under my thumb and this help thanks. it went

  • too fast

  • If you appy the 1 B-aid an that bleeds thought an you appy the 2 B-aid over that an that bleeds thought APPY MORE AND DO NOT REMOVE THE BANDAIDS! A BLOOD CLOT COULD BRAKE LOOSE AND GO TO THE HEART OR LUNGS. So let the EMT or Doc. remove the B-aids.

  • Well actually, before applying a bandaid, you should attempt to stop/ control bleeding by applying firm direct pressure. If it is a severe bleed, you can use an a non-adherent pad, then an ABD pad and if it soaks through, then you apply another ABD pad. Then you could use a triangular bandage and cover the bandages completely and tie it off using a loop tie method if that is what you prefer.

  • Thing is, most people know how to treat basic bleeding, what I wanted to know was how to cope with something more serious. Ive known I should get somebody to hospital who has major injuries since I was a child. What I dont know is how to deliver first aid to somebody with serious bleeding........ I still dont.

  • If you cant stop the bleeding with direct pressure you have to use a tourniquet, it's not taught anymore to civilians in the US but you learn that in the military and it's taught to civilians in some other countries, it's ok to use if it's for less than six hours, by that time you should get to the hospital.

Apply between the wound and the heart to stop the bleeding. And always raise the wound above the heart to reduce blood flow.

  • Cheers Joe. You should have done the video. Thanks for the info. I am going to some pretty remote places shortly so I wanted to know something beyond using antiseptic cream and a bandage.

  • not necessarily. If direct pressure fails, then you can use pressure points (brachial pressure point, femur press.pnt., etc) A tourniquet should only be used as as absolute last resort..

  • wrap a towel around the wound and put pressure on it. im 12 yrs old

  • @freezefrog

Follow all the same steps you've seen here. Hold the first dressing for at least 2 minutes (check out the patho behind wound healing as to why these times are important) If that doesnt work, keep the first dry dressing on, and pile on more dressings (dry!)

Still no good? Ensure the wound is elevated about the heart and cover the pile with a blood pressure cuff. Inflate to 40mmHg, check distal pulse b4 and after. Still no good? Transport not available? tourniquet!

  • Tons of basic errors

  • I'm afraid the paitant would bleed out by the time she gets her gloves on. Maybe she could be a gyno doc instead???

  • @elldanfarms true if it's an artery you can't pause for gloves or even think, it has to be instinctive--- stop the blood flow you can worry blood born illness later. People not dieing is more important then this shit.

  • nice rubber glove..

  • How bout u JTM, fail em? failed to secure above and below bandage, arm not elevated, check pulse past the point of the bandage.ETC

    Manual, proper instruction, Practice

Oh and once the second ones on and it bleeds thru - take em both off - the first one aint tight enough - see the regs

  • Apply a pressure dressing and call 911! No tourniquet and no o2 if you're not qualified to do so. If blood soakes thru the dressing, apply a second one on top of the soaked one.

  • You would only call 911 if the the bleeding was an arterial bleed.

  • You call 911 if there's a lot of bleeding that takes an effort to control.

You can have venal bleeding too, especially if you cut a vein, which will bleed profusely if you do.

It alters cardiac output if you cut certain veins, which will cause other more serious problems.

A person needs stitches if the cut is more than 3 inches long and 1/2 inch deep.

  • Yes I know. When I stated you wouldn't need to call 911 in this case, I was referring to a minimal injury such as this one. It also depends how the vein is cut aswell. Certain areas may bleed more.

  • Or in English: Watch out for danger and put on gloves. Ask what has happened: Symptoms, Allergies, Medication use, Patients history, Last meal, Event (what has happened). Apply pressure using gauze pads and elevate the limb above the heart-level

  • wow! ur look good..u understand first aid^_^ ur greet

  • BSI! Scene safe? CHECK PMS! ask how they are feeling (consider Non-Rebreather mask at 15 LPM) Get SAMPLE history whilst you are Applying bandage and dressing. ("Not too tight, not too loose"-Buhda), Elevate the wound above the head. Use pressure point right belowthe bicep, CHECK PMS again. Use Blood-Pressure cuff (at 150psi) instead of hand on the pressure point.

  • elevation is just high enough above the heart "that's the minimum height", the principle here is the gravity of the exit wound from the heart pumps of blood will get slow. Arterial or Venous bleeding. Pressure point depends on the supplying artery & BP cuff is NOT RECOMMENDED to use as a pressure point, because it will become a tourniquet concept here, unless the last result of controlling bleeding is "Tourniquet" then BP cuff is one of which you can use aside of the triangular bandage or so.
