so... he thinks that thousands of people just HAPPEN to make up the same problems? I had never even heard of dyslexia when i started complaining to my mom that the words where flashing, and my eyes kept blurring out, and focusing on random words. It's not something you can teach to a kid.

It's not that dyslexia is a myth, rather that it's over-diagnosed and then used as a crutch/excuse by those who don't really have it. That's what gives the true dyslexics a bad name. Improper medical diagnosis is the root cause of a good number of social maladies.

What a jackass..... I've lived through my son's Dyslexia and seen the frustration it causes. My son has been through various teaching methods since Primary school with varying success but it wasn't till he was diagnosed at age 10 did things start getting easier for him. He is quite aware of his abilities and can overcome them when he needs to.... but he will always be Dyslexic and he's ok with that. What he doesn't need is people like this telling him Dyslexia is a lie.

even when they are talking about how it is real it still sound like a nice way of saying "stupid" i mean "i have trouble with reading writing and maths my whole life" "people have it in this country because english is complex" that means they have trouble understanding it because english is hard i sorry but that doesn't sound like a disability it just sound like they are just not good at reading writing or math, am just saying that's how it sounds i'm not an expert so don't get all pissed

Dyslexia is caused before dyslexia kids are born! so get over it! -.- Its not our fault that we are dyslexic we were born like this. Like kids are born with green, blue,black, brown watever color of eyes!

Dyslexia is real. When i was in 3rd grade i was diagnosed with it! i couldnt spell at all! i couldnt read at all!! its not that i wasnt trying! i honestly was! so dont say dyslexia is a myth! cause yu dont know what yur talking about! -.-

LOL - been coping (and with word doc can almost master) my own dyslexia ( it was discovered when I was 21 by order of my employers to take a test) - So I had gone undetected through out my whole school life with it as just someone with low ability to write (failing my history O'level as an example of not what I know but how I was unable to express it on paper.) - Thanks for pointing that error out -

Mind you my post graduate degree was in Advanced Analytical Chemistry - I left work at 25 (my dyslexia test showed I had an IQ of 130 and I could be at University) and studied at Bath and Bristol Uni - However I was oblighed to undertake Chemistry to avoid essay writing

The labour party was informed of the Primary cause of dyslexia in 2006 Ms Ruth Kelly ! she gave up her job and moved her dyslexic child to a privet school. Mr Ed Balls sent my findings to Sir Jim Rose to review and on review he stated that dyslexia exist and every child should receive help. @ lepsychokaybird, there's no way you can actually say that dyslexia is real, just because you have it, that's not proof. dyslexia cannot be proven in scientific terms, therefore it cannot be diagnosed. not all children can spell or read at the same level. basically what they're saying is that if these children didn't have dyslexia, everybody would be good at reading and spelling, which is ridiculous. there'll always be people who are better and worse than others at many different things.

I think he must have had a very bad experience with his dyslexia and with his teachers etc., and probably had a bad case of it. But I am dyslexic and I have ADHD and it is very real, so I am unsure of what to make of this man. Yes, it's a label, and I suppose it could hurt a child to be put into a special ed class as I was because I was teased, but in the end it's worth it because I learned to read and write easier.

This man is arrogant, I really dont think he has bothered to speak to people that that have dyslexia and he has completely missed the point, yes people with dyslexia can be literate. Depending on how sever their condition is a factor to how long it takes to learn to become literate. But I do agree that there is a teaching issue but that is with knowing how to treat dyslexia not on the overall quality of teaching.

I was bought up in Spain, went to Spanish school and I have dyslexia. I am literate but that isn't the whole story. My short term memory is awful, my map reading is impossible and i cannot read and write at the pace most people do. There are other things that I am better at then most people, but i definitely think dyslexia exists.

Not all "symptoms" of dyslexia effect English or can be fixed by learning English in a different way.

I'll sometimes write a "d" when I meant to write a "b" and visa-versa.

When I read I'll sometimes replace words with my own.

I mix up my left and right all the time .

These thing can't be the effect of being taught the wrong way.

English is just fucked up.
