  • W.O.W!! :D

  • Beautiful! I wish I could play like you!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm playing this for college auditions (up to the gypsy song) but I'm so worried i'm gonna fail big time D: the hardest part to me is the very first variation after the habenera.

  • Have you ever thought about playing without music?

  • How can you play with a flower in your mouth?

  • Good Job!

  • could you please tell me how to practice note jumps! I really need to play from low to high notes without cracking the sound or making it feel forced! thanks!

  • I like the tone , very nice!!!!!!!!

  • You're amazing :O

  • I really like it!

  • Nina! you are absolutely stunning. I am a huge fan of yours! :) Greetings from Hungary. Csaba :)

  • beautiful job

  • fantabulous!

  • I finally could stand it no longer and made an account so I can tell you what an inspiration you are to me! That being said, I have a question; The embellishment you perform at 5:17 - is that a trick of breathing or super-human-speedy fingers? Because it's probably the most mind boggling thing I've ever heard someone do on a flute : )

    Respond please!

  • @one0minstrels0flute Thanks for watching. At 5:17 it is just fast moving fingers, and steady air stream. Visit my website if you want to see more flute stuff and videos! Peace, Nina

  • amazing!

  • Do you know where i can get the music for free ?

  • i love it! well done Nina!

  • Can you u give me the flute notes?

  • What happened at 6:17? :O

Btw this song is very beautiful played. :]

  • Very Beautiful! love your expression!

  • you are amazing i love every thing like the sound the way you play its all amazing

  • very nice!

  • Beautiful sound, I really admire your tone.

  • Oh Nina this is soooo beautiful! I want to be as beautiful as a player as you. Your inspire me to strive toward my dream of taking my pasion for the flute as high as it will take me!

  • This is so fun to play! Great Job! I wish I could play as good....but some day!

  • Really good flute work. I play flute, or did before my accident. I'm working on regaining it. Have you ever heard Emma, the child flutist? She is AMAZING!

    Regard, Gummug

  • @TheGummug I've heard Emma, she is amazing! She made her solo debut with this piece.

  • @WorldofGino

    Amazing indeed! :)

  • lol people this is a difficult song, it sounds a little breathy because it's difficult, only a godly flutist could play this song perfectly lol the fact she can play it without any mistakes is truly fantastic! GO NINA!!!!

  • I'm a flute Major in college, and after seeing this, I ordered the piece asked my professor if it could be my solo for next semester. I just got on break so I'm about to start really focusing on it. You play it so well, I wanted to play it :)

  • Really phenomenal!

  • Wow this is beautiful. I play clarinet, saxophone, and bassoon. But I'm having trouble getting a nice sound on flute. I give you a lot of credit!

  • What a great job with this piece! I love this song and you are an amazing performer :)

  • WOW! Amazing!

  • I have to agree with those who have commented on the tone quality of this performance. It seems really unfocused to me and came across as rather breathy. That could, of course, not be the fault of the performer but of the sound system used. For the person who made the comment about placing a rose in one's mouth during this piece, it is not an original idea; Tom Nyfenger used to do it all the time when performing this piece, and with better sound quality.

  • but please sucks

  • a bit slower than you're going too fast ...

carmen if you can not do not do so can do it all ...

    sounds like a lullaby

  • Wowwww, i loved your tone, so beautiful....the acoustic of the room was great too!! You have one of the nicest tones i have ever heard!!! Kepp it up :)

  • UR AWSOMEEEE ok but ther is one thing what did the woman give u and why did u stop lol

but u r really really awsome

  • so beautiful and elegant the lady with the flower and the sound !

  • bah...

  • very goob

  • Beautiful!!!! It sounds like the flute is singing!!!

  • Nina You play amazingly.

  • what grade is this nina???

  • mate why dont u drop the flute and pick up a hot dog because u cant do a flute

  • What did the pianoist pass to you towards the end?

  • That pause in the end of the piece killed me!! XD But in a good way. :)

  • your play's quite beautiful but you're moving a bit strange. very vulgar at 1:10. it looks so exerted. sure those high notes aren't easy but a good flutist doesn't show it and we all can hear you are good

  • @asummeronthebeach I kindly disagree. She is feeling the music; while her movements are strange, what we hear and what sound she projects from her instrument is more important. Ian Anderson moves a lot more than Nina does (this is not to say you have to move a lot to be good, as both of them are great flute players in my opinion.)

  • Ohh goshh. You're high notes are beautifully played! :DD Fantastic!

I should take some lessons from you. Eh? xD Haha.

  • You play beautifully on the flute.

  • hi there, what's the model of your flute?

hola, cual és el modelo de su flauta?

  • @freitasnetuno I play Sankyo

  • @ninaflute prima sankyo is my fav <3 nice choice!

  • @ninaflute prima sankyo is my fav <3 nice choice!

  • lol at 1:35 i was like where is the other flute :D

  • when you put the rose in your mouth i was without words, I've never seen it done in real life let alone on Youtube. That's really pretty cool. I love how the different variations of the song lead up to the climax of the story unfolding, it really brings the song to life at that point.

  • It's a very hard piece to play. Unfortunately, this showed. It was sharp for most of the performance, it was far too slow, the sound got very breathy when you got to the faster bits, and the breathing was in the wrong places and broke up the phrases. However, there were moments which were very musical and well played as well - you understood the piece, just couldn't quite bring it off.

  • je reviens très souvent!

    bravo!

    grande admiration.

a bientôt encore pour d'autre écoute,

    j'aimerai bien vous écouter, dans l'adagio d'Albinoni.

    Salut!

  • awesome playing..! =]

  • You're BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 好嘢 ! 一流 ! 確係冇得彈 !!!

  • 好嘢 ! 一流 ! 確係冇得彈 !!!

  • Ohhh Nina, I cannot believe it! You are little sharp tunning or?

  • OMG! I asolutley love

the acoustics in this room :] lol

and of course you Nina! <3

  • Perfecta pieza! y dificil!

  • Im in 8th grade and can play this, but not with as good a tone as yours! Beautiful! :)

  • What happens at 6:17?

  • @frankdavid0 The pianist gives the girl a rose.

  • @frankdavid0 she put a rose in her mouth

  • @frankdavid0 The pianist gives her a rose, which she takes in her mounth and then conitiniue playing.

  • @frankdavid0 She puts a flower in her mouth !

The question should be ... why ? =)

  • @RakiAbdou cause it's Carmen :D

  • @RakiAbdou Becasue she can :P

  • @RakiAbdou maybe it helps with tounging

  • @frankdavid0 It looks like she was given a rose to put between her teeth

  • I luv this piece and you play amazingly.

  • I have just started this, I'm only in eighth grade... I have a feeling this is going to become a very long term project :)

  • WOW incredible good~

    Carmen partita?

  • I am so going to learn this, even if it takes me years. This is so awesome!

  • buen intento....

  • é INEGAVEL que está garota toca muito, ela realmente tem a pegada, mais ela é INSUPORTAVEL :S muito mala aff...

  • AMAZING TONE.

  • i have played this play and your're are amazing Nina.....I like your version

  • that was amazing

i do want the sheets for it :D

by the way, what was handed to you/her towards the end of the corse?

  • It was a flower (rose i think) that she put in her mouth while she played =]

  • Dr. Perlove, you are AMAZING.

  • Alot of you where discussing the difficulty of this piece. I personnally believe it is quite hard and should really be attempted until you are at university or Equivlent standard. This piece appears on the current trinty guildhall dimploma LTCL and i believe it has been on the LRSM for the associated board. That is the complete thing this has been cut slightly ( i think)

  • wow u r amazing! i play the flute to but im not nearly as good as you. somday i would love to be though.

  • Hi, Nina

You play this beautifully! I'm playing this solo for my senior recital (college) this fall. I was wondering if you fingered the high A-B-A triplet in measure 170 with the trill fingerings or actual fingerings?

Any other advice on the piece is greatly appreciated, thank you!

  • use actual fingerings and take time if you need.

  • I really wish i could find free sheet music for this..

  • another question... what's the idea with the final scene, the theater part? I think that because you hold the rose in your mouth, u play a little bit out of tune! greetings

  • Hi Nina, I like your sound, but why do you have such a bad body position ?(it's ok to be relaxed but, in order to have a good sound control and a homogeneous one, you need to find your central axis, the body balance). Ah, I almost forgot, the piano player it's out of control, she plays different notes many many times! greetings

  • Cool!

  • Wow, I love this piece. You played this really well along with your partner on the piano. Though I am confused: What was the point of the rose? Was it just for effect or to make a difference in tone? I have never played before so I don't know honestly...

  • this is soo pretty!

  • Toca muy Bien e Buscado la Partitura en todas partes de la web y No la encuentro

  • ¿Que es eso que se pone en la boca?

  • @piedraluna0 una rosa!

  • @ninaflute ¿Por qué se pone una rosa en la boca?

  • @ninaflute What does it mean? :O xD

  • @piedraluna0 cuando??

  • me encanta !!!!!

  • I love how you play this, Nina- it is nice to hear the habanera played so sensually but I like it to move a bit more as it progresses- Jane Rutter

  • glad you have a good pianist for this piece.

  • the piano-part is easy ;)

  • magnificent! =)

  • What was it that the pianist gave you at the end of the performance?

  • it was a rose.

  • very beautiful... like it best in the very high and very quiet parts

  • especially if you're doind a solo, it's fine to move with the music. I'm playing Carnival of Venice for Solo and Ensemble this year, and it looks terrible if I just stand completely still, because the music is so light and playful.

  • what a brilliant idea to do carmen as a piano-flute duet! beautiful =D

  • @cait93: No, it is not Grade 8, I think it's easier but I'm not so familiar with the Grades :-)

It sounds harder than it is, because it is written in a pleasant 'pitch' (I don't know the english word...)

  • It's a pretty tough piece. The difficulty also depends on your interpretation.

  • Yes, that' true. It is better when I say, that the Habanera is difficult, but the first part (not played in the vid) is much easier, and the part after the Habanera...I didn't play it that fast, so I do agree with you. And often the flutists play e.g. thriller or other embellishments which are not written in the music sheet.

  • REALLY want to learn to play this!!! is it about grade 8? or harder??

  • This is a grade 6+. The grading system only goes up to 6+ i think...

  • Isn't this piece a seven? I played it last year, and that's what it was... Not nearly as well as Miss Perlove, however. @_@ Maybe different states have different grade systems?

  • Maybe...I 've only heard that the grade system only goes up to 6+ though. I guess it doesn't really matter. It's obviously a difficult piece that needs a good amount of technique.

  • makes me feel like standing up and do a bit of dancing...

  • My band teacher always used to want to stab me with a pencil every time I moved to much or my flute wasn't parallel to the ground. However your upper body seems to be moving everywhere yet your sound isn't affected. Other than in marching band isn't it alright to have your body in an "incorrect" position?

I love your sound by the way. ^^'

  • If you stand to rigidly or tight your tone can sound forced or very closed. Being relaxed and balanced are contributing factors to your tone. In terms of your flute position, you obviously don't want it dragging on the ground, but each flute player is going to have a different comfortable position so it's really up to the individual. :)

  • Thanks for the info ;)

  • It should be the other way around...you should feel like stabbing him/her with a pencil for telling you that =P You DEFINITELY do not need your flute parallel in anything other than marching...in fact I believe most people would agree parallel is "wrong" in a concert band.

  • LOL yeah I thought so. There's actually this woman I know (who's been playing the flute for like 20 years), and needs to get shoulder surgery. She blames it on being taught to hold her flute that way. I was like O_O Is she trying to scare me?!

But yeah thanks for your opinion. :)

  • wow. Very neat, I like it.

  • I like it.

  • T.I.G.H.T i mean very safisticated my sisters flute does nnot sound like this

  • how come these flute sounds different from the other ones?

  • because they all are different from each other does that help

  • the brand?

  • Very cool.

  • Bravo!!

  • where did u buy this piece?? i really like it

  • yes, i want to buy it. very nice!!

  • woah. this is beyond amazing. =D

  • BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLL!

  • shes got a little dance going on and everything!!!

    ^_^ AMAZING!!!

  • His formidable technique!

  • What note is that??

  • Genialnie ;)

    Podziwiam ;)

  • amazing!

  • oh the fun memories of marching band!!! getting run over by people while marching, forgetting music while the judge is next to you, the fast tempos...I really did like this show my freshman year!!

  • nice:)

I am also a song to play ;=)

  • Ms. Nina do you have some suggestions about reaching the 3rd octave? For some reason, I'm starting to buzz when I play high notes

  • Your embouchure is much too tight, more than likely. Try dropping your jaw, and supporting from the abdominal muscles more. This should also help with your intonation! :)

  • I would love to play that but I'm a guy so it doesn't make sense. And even if I play it, I won't be able to interpret it well =D Anyway I'm not even at that level.

  • why would it not make any sense. I played carmen fantaisie entirely by memory and blew away my competition. males tend to have stronger lungs. play away buddy

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with briany42! I'm a guy who plays the flute/piccolo at my school and I love it! Don't let anybody/yourself tell you that your interpretation of the music is wrong!! Part of being a musician is the ability to interpret the music in your own way. The piece you perform then becomes a part of you because of your influence. Keep playing!!! =)

  • @IluvCCS17 I cant believe someone wrote it that good for flute!

  • Amazing!

  • I play the flute and I'm 13.

I played infront of my whole schoool.

    :D

  • QUEE SE PUSO EN LA BOCA??

  • flute is the most wonderful instrument.. how i wish i take flute lesson

  • that was a 'wow'.. it seems that she's just playing over the piece but i don't suppose that that's easy, and it is so beautiful..

  • Beautiful! I'm playing this piece for my recital next month and your interpretation has given me some great ideas! I particularly liked the rose. Never seen a flutist do that before! Again, beautiful playing.

  • The Toreador!!

  • This may be a stupid question, but I do not intend it to be. Is Carmen a ballet or an opera?

  • It's an opera....

  • thanks! :D

  • It's definitely an opera. An excellent one at that.
