To get the water to flow the way you want to, you have to place any kind of block above the water you all ready have running. Also, have one block empty at the top for you to place water. I am also sure that water only flows about 9 blocks.

To all the people who advertise "GO ON SERVAH NAO ISH SO AWESOME", everyone knows that it's a crappy server and you're all spamming the comments that are worth something.

For that farm, just stick some halfsteps over the water. Nice walkway and the water'll flow right over the wheat. Or you could put the irrigation a block lower and stick some glass over it at level with the dirt

A good way would be to place iron fences above the water. This will make the water flute over the farm, but the stuff falls between the fences.
