  • there you go folks, the only good game on the jag!

  • @wescoolya I'd say it's one of the worst honestly. The Jag sucked as a whole, but there were also some gems on it. My favorites: Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Tempest 2k, Missile Command 3D, AvP, Iron Soldier, and Towers 2.

The Jaguar had the unfortunate pleasure of being extremely hard to program for. This is evident when you compare, say Iron Soldier 2 with Checkered Flag.

  • @RJTamm93 the good games had no music tho and this game was good when it was ported to the gamecubes arcade treasure chest 2 disk

  • @wescoolya Um, Wolf had music, Tempest had fantastic music, Missile command has music. Fail argument is fail. AvP didn't have music by design and Doom didn't have music for processing reasons. Also, I don't know a single fighter fan that thinks Primal Rage is good. If you want to get into fighters, try the Marvel vs. Capcom series. It's pretty easy to get into.

  • Well this is 64 bits¿? when the psx version and sega saturn are best like the arcade version.

  • This game is 101% historically accurate.

  • The sprites are so small compared to the arcade version.

  • Here's the answer to the 'is the jaguar 64-bit?' question:

The jaguar's processor was a 32-bit processor and a bunch of other processors together that added up to 64. It's very confusing, and it made it extremely hard for programmers to make games on the Jaguar for this reason. The jaguar is built unlike any other. So, most games that came out on the jaguar didn't show the Jaguar's full potential, due to difficulty of programming.

  • Donkeykong street fighter, with farting gorillas. yaaaay.

so this is why "primal" is not used in videogame advertisement anymore.

  • wow I haven't seen this game in like a decade and this is a shit port, what system is this on Apple II GS?

  • The only way to play this game right is in the arcade.

  • loading... loading... loading... rediculous

  • Why did they release this on a CD instead of a cartridge? I don't see why it couldn't have just been released on a cartridge so it could reach a wider group of people.

  • One thing that was good about "Primal Rage" was the sound. Wouldn't mind seeing a really good HD sequel with today's technology.

  • nice port

  • chaos makes me wanna fart just like him

  • RAGE!!

  • I remember playing the SNES version of this game back in the day. I now have the arcade port on the Play Station 2.

  • really. can the characters be any smaller?

  • @fmdof that's the power of "64 bits"!!! LMAO@atari. WTF were they thinking with this system? In hindsight, it was a good thing they bankrupted themselves. They couldn't do anything right post 1980 or so.

  • i've been looking for the best port of the game since the arcade version is still broken on mame, my fave so far is the 32x version, the missing animations on the psx version threw me off the game, then i tried the pc version apparently graphically it's the best port, but the controls... i can't get used to them it's like i'm re learning how to play PR and i know every move and every fatality for every character, i definitely rather keyboard to gamepad with this game.

  • @raptros man try the midway arcade treasures 2 version on PLAYSTATION 2 only. Not on Xbox or gamecube casue the speed of the game is off on these last 2 versions.

  • @mkkhanzohasashi I did, it's not bad graphically but they changed the controls, i'm used to the hold down 2+ keys do the motion when i'm playing primal rage, so far graphically the PC version and MAT2 versions appear to be the best, but gameplay wise the PC version is a little better because at least the mechanic for the special moves is similar but you hold down the same 2 keys for every attack and fatality but there's a serious bug, Vertigo's crouch 3+4 doesn't work.

  • @raptros true. Did you watched my old combovid? "Primal Rage (All Character Exhibition)" or /watch?v=mCbUhofJk-M Hope you like it! =)

  • @mkkhanzohasashi oh crap so you were the original maker of the video, i thought i had recognised the mkk on your username from somewhere, it's an awesome video i tell ya, i was shocked when i began goin deeper into the gameplay and started figuring out the range of freedom when it came to combos and tactics, but after watching your video i was blown away i've never imagined you could pull such devastating combos.

  • @raptros Thx friend. If I ever find the time again, I will put up a few leftovers from that vid and from other consoles too. Take care!

  • Jeeze they Atari messed up porting their own game to their own system!

  • not worth playing without a subwoofer

  • Why the long loading screen its a cartridge isnt it? wtf

  • @iurhviusdfavhi No its a disk. it was a 64-bit disk system.

  • This game had some great music man. I used to go gaga over Vertigo's theme.

  • they should remake this for next gen consoles would be pretty cool

  • 64 fuckin bits.. yah baby

  • Well, most games on the Jaguar were lousy originals and lazy ports of 16 bits, but you know, Tempest 2000 doesn't look so bad, and Battlemorph actually managed to look almost like a ps1 first gen game. No 64 bit power there, though, but a few games did manage 32 bit quality... which was the actual power of the system...

  • @andoc it could still be considered 64 bit, it just had two 32 bit processors like modern computers with there Duel core CPU.They were both on a 64 bit bus, plus who cares about bits it is the games that make a system, no one cares or takes about bits anymore, the bit wars died long ago.

  • LMFAO

Your calling me a stupid youtube idiot lmfao when your the dumb cunt talking about games looking(????) 64bit.

GAMES DONT LOOK 16BIT 64 BIT 8 BIT 32 BIT OR ANYTHING THEY LOOK AS GOOD AS THE HARDWARE CAN MAKE THEM. You dont say a ps1 doesnt look 32bit but it looks fucking shit next to doom 3 on my 32bit athlonxp.

You smackhead idiot I can't beleive that idiocy.

Do modern 64 bit games on new phenom and core i7 64 bit processors look like n64 games?

    LOL

  • the arcade was better

  • @samariman48 arcade is always better, killer instinct was a perfect example. sc1 on the dreamcast is the exeption to the rule

  • @Faelian6t5 Funnily enough this is sub par and you picked one of the infamously bad jaguar games to make your decision on.

You dumbshit that would be like me taking a look at the ps1 game 3Xtreme (which is shit) and deciding that the ps1 is a fundamentally shit console with all shit games.

Lol you failed there didn't you pleb unbelievably dumb comment you made.

  • This is pathetic.....Snes with slightly better music! wow!

  • Wtf, I have the SNES version of this game and the sprites are the same size. That's sad.

  • I remember when this system came out, haha. First time I tried it I was at an electronics convention with my dad and they had a demo station for the Jaguar. And still being in the 16-bit era I remember thinking the graphics were pretty spectacular... but the controller, man I just couldn't fathom it. What the hell were all those numbered buttons for?

The game the demoed was pretty bad too... piss poor controls.

  • The jaguar was really a shitty console, no offense but the bits doesn't proof anything here considering this version is not so good... better is arcade or 32x which doesn't even have as many bits as jaguar

  • @Xecutionner2K Well thats hardly the fault of the jaguar that the programmers of this particular game sucked. it was way better than snes md/32x etc and cd32

  • @Xecutionner2K hai presente i port di atari st -amiga questo e' l'esempio

e' semplicemente un port da una console inferiore senza sfruttare le qualita del jaguar il jaguaro e' molto piu potente di cosi' !! e non e' una console di merda!

  • good god that is terrible

  • this port sucks ass, compared to the 32X version

  • Agreed.

  • @forkinass6 ....no, this is actually better then the 32X game, not that anybody played either version anyways.

  • @forkinass6 ........So you actually own both version to compare? Or are you using a crappt Youtube video to make a judgement?

  • @forkinass6 The 32X version was basically the Genesis turd slapped into a 32X cart. How this version is even remotely close to being worse than that is beyond me.

It should be noted that there's something wrong with the video processing in this. The Jag CD version runs roughly as smooth as the 3DO game.

  • @forkinass6 This port is rather bad. Probe did a shit job with it. They didnt even bother to make sure the backgrounds graphics were aligned to the screen.

  • @forkinass6 does that mean it's good or bad

  • hloy shit! i totally forgot about this game! it was really good! and funny!

  • I can't believe that 16 years after its release, people are still arguing over how many 'bits' the Jaguar had. The question is meaningless, because there is no straight, consistent definition of what is actually being referred to. The fact that Atari tried to market the Jag on this alone is a good example of their cluelessness. For me, the only real benchmark of a gaming system that matters a damn is the quality and availability of its software. In this regard, the Jag scored piss poorly.

  • @UncleFeedle OK YEAH THATS TRUE BUT IT WAS 32 BITS.

  • @UncleFeedle Let me know when someone ports 3DMark to the Jaguar, then I'll get back to you.

  • ...I remember playing this on the Saturn. This game was like a dino version of MK...

    Sauron!?

  • The Jaguar also contained two 64 bit chips; the Blitter and Object processor. And please don't imply the Mega Drive had better graphics.

  • Comment removed

  • Go do some research. The Blitter and Object processors were both 64 bit. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, you're an IT Consultant, not a systems engineer or IC designer. I'm sure you're proficient when it comes to advising clients on network topology and Windows licensing, but your knowledge clearly falls short when it comes to computer architecture, especially with the talk of "16 bit packets". The Jaguar had a 64 bit memory interface, and two 64 bit processors, which I have already mentioned. The Jaguar's problem was software, not hardware.

  • The CPU (68000) and GPU executed a 32-bit instruction-set, but sent control signals to the 64-bit graphics co-processors (or "graphics accelerators"). Atari Corp.'s position was that the mere presence of 64-bit ALUs for graphics was sufficient to validate the claim. Design specs for the console allude to the GPU or DSP being capable of acting as a CPU, leaving the Motorola 68000 to read controller inputs. In practice, however, many developers used the Motorola 68000 to drive gameplay logic.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry, but this post illustrates an absolute lack of understand of even the basics of computer architecture. External data bus widths, while impacting performance, do not affect the ability of processors to execute 64 bit code. It has absolutely nothing to do with it. By your logic, I would have to have a 256bit (64 x 4) memory interface to run my 64 bit Quad core in 64 bit mode. LOL. And DMA paths? The less said about that the better.

  • @blackArt2000 I.T Consultant oh wow...

Thats nothing, an I.T consultant is a piss easy job almost anybody at the age of 18-30 with no qualifications could easily do.

    Your a pleb.

Everything you say is wrong even describing the megadrive as even close to the jaguar is pure bullshit.

Clearly you never did a Computing course in college or uni or you would have a basic grasp of basic hardware rules.

  • the controller sucked

  • Faelian, you do realize that this was a 64-bit console during the 16-bit era. The technology was 2 generations a head of what anyone knew how to make games for in the console market. The Jaguar was fine. You probably also think the Dreamcast was a piece of shit?

  • Well it was technically 32 bit but a console is only as good as it's games.

  • Comment removed

  • It had some 64 bit components but the two main processors Tom and Dick were both 32 bit.

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, did that monkey just do a handstand and open-leg fart at that dinosaur? Fucking awful LOL

  • Looks almosts like the Playstation and the Sega Saturn versions, but without the cool climatic cutscenes. Too bad there is no Nintendo 64 Version, but in the end the Nintendo 64 Version will be Arcade Perfect, but too bad Time Warner Interactive have to close down.

  • this is worst than genesis versipn

  • i loved playing this on the arcade

  • hloly shit they shrunk!

  • Crap

  • Primal rage kids. (joke about the characters sprite size)

  • I loved playing this on SNES!

  • its alright but i now have the sega genesis version of the game. its actualy not that different from the 32x version

  • shit worthless system

  • @needawank The ps1 was a peice of shit though it had no good games look at 3Xtreme for example its shit that shit game proves the system is shit. N64 is probably the worst console ever because of batman beyond return of the joker and polaris snocross 2001.

because of those games those systems sucked and you can kiss my butt like I rimmed your mum.

  • Well aren't you an idiot.

Little tip for you, if you want to make some points, try doing them without resorting to name calling (it just shows the world that you're a confused and angry teenager).

Considering you love the Jaguar though, rimming or infact any form of sexual activity would be just a dream for you (and sex with your hand doesn't count).

    Carry on.

  • LOL Ok then.

    Wrong, Wrong and Wrong.

But you didn't even address my point, you can't judge a system on its shittiest games.

  • another port featuring missing sprite animations and what not -_- is there any port of this game besides the genesis/32 x and arcade versions that features fully animated characters, sure the genesis/32x also had sprites missing but they kept many of the usefull sprite animations like the roars, armadon's running animation during megacharge which is absent from all the other ports...

  • the characters in this port of the game are extremely tiny!

  • I remember back when this game was popular. Like many good Midway franchises it has been abandoned. Too bad Midway is having money problems. I find that alarming since they have made some real arcade gems in the past.

  • It's honestly been officially claimed (not rumor-wise) that Mortal Kombat is the one of the top most-popular fighting franchises.

  • well no shit

  • why do half the characters look like re-color's?

  • Because creating new stop motion miniatures to create sprites for an entire new character was expensive...

  • ok thanks I didn't know.

  • The Jaguar version is one of the best ever made of that game. Who says that the Jaguar couldn´t do much more than the SNES could is either blind or a lousy technician or both. The problem is that the Jaguar was (and is) hard to code, Atari Jaguar games were usually one-man-projects with a few testers while Nintendo and later Sony had hundreds of programmers working on just one game...

  • Comment removed

  • there was NO kind of 3d-support on the jaguar, so there was really NO reason to buy this stupid console, cuz u can buy a ps for same money. the atari-guys must smoke a lot of shit that time they thought "yay this console will kickass!!!"

  • That´s not true, the Jaguar had polygon support and guround shading, it didn´t have texture mapping (hardware wise) and that´s why it "sucked" in 3D texture mapped games were the psx ruled. But 1993 there was hardly any playstation to buy ;)

  • REAL TALK.!

  • @vyyn te gioca alla piesseics e dire stronzate!!!!!!!!

  • at least user had no red screen

  • 64 bits and a CD add on and this is the best they can do. It looks about as good as the SNES version.

  • @KelvinTheLion Actually as a matter of fact this is well known and infamous for being just about the worst they ever managed to do.

  • Someones been watching AVGN too much.

  • Lets play some JAAG

  • Thtas the cool way to say it...lol :)

  • The Jaguar, 3DO, 32x and Sega CD have their places in gaming history; but somehow now they seem just like cash-ins. Because the Saturn, PSone and SNES were much better. I can't believe I actually bought the Jaguar and the 3DO. LOL. At least the Jaguar had Alien vs. Predator, Iron Soldier, Primal Rage and Tempest 2000. And at least the 3DO had SSFII Turbo, Demolition Man, Ultraman (Import), Samurai Shodown, Escape from Monster Manor, Killing Time, Gex, Road Rash, Need For Speed, Madden and FIFA.

  • What? This game is translated in Portuguese!

  • I used to love this game but unlike such fighters as street fighter 2 or mortal kombat 2, it feels very lame in todays world. Still i remember wasting loads of quarters on this game and I dont regret ne bit of it :)

  • Wow the Jaguar version was weak.

  • This game takes me back. One of my friends had a Jag back in the day we used to play this game all the time!

  • i loved primal rage i always loved diablo cause i got a figure of him bu i dont have it anymore i wish they still made this stuff

  • Actually the PC Version and the Playstation Version actually show some good signs of quality.

I mean yeah the PC one emulates the Arcade one, but the PSOne port is fantastic

  • I might have to check out the PS1 version then. I didn't realize it was released on that platform.

  • You just suck, is all.

  • It was just a bad, bad game. It was a blatant cash in of the then current gore-fest beat em ups and Jurassic Park that was so hot at the time. If your whole argument is "you just suck" then I guess you feel you can't argue with my point (or you don't have the sense to do so).

  • someone smart please help me

    great vid 2m

  • its a shame , I think if Atari had just called it the Jaguar or at the very most Atari jaguar 32, as only one of the two chips (tom) was used for the graphics the other(jerry) was mostly for the sound, but at the strange time of release gamers & the trade were going nuts about "bits"

  • even then, there wasn't much that the Jag could do that the SNES or 32x couldn't.

  • very true ,thats why imo it would have been better to be honest & not dissapoint the gamers & set the company (atari) up for a fall,,do you think that with the later released 3 button atari controller & calling it a 32bit machine it could have become an alternative to the 32x & snes?

  • @paulspydar Very wrong its a much more powerful system than those two

  • @bobbystar101 very wrong? why? I said that the Jag could have been an alternative to the 32x & snes, and you yourself said its more powerfull than those two, so whats "very wrong"? with mode 7 on the snes and the fact that the tom & jery chips made the jag closer to a 32 not 64 bit machine the point is the end result "the games" are what matters and so I stand by my statement...

  • While I happily agree that many Jaguar games didn't look much better than what was on Super Nintendo, that's a rather ignorant statement.

  • its watching someone with constipation. its so slow and all for shit

  • Worst load time of pretty much any Jaguar CD game. I always hated that.

  • Great graphics, bad gameplay...

  • We sure did love some Dinosaurs in the early 90's.

  • Hooray for Jurassic Park.

  • armadon's roar sounds DOOM imp death.

  • I never liked this game for some reason...

  • i always hated this game for a good reason

  • It was a novel idea and I liked the story behind it but...eh, it was a pretty dime-a-dozen fighter from the 90s.

  • This version has the best sound but The health meters are a little on the strange side as well as the sprites not being up to scale. Even so it is nice that at least one good game was on the first 64 bit system.

  • THe Atari version of this game is by far the best version.

  • ummm how come urth looks like diablo spitting fire

  • I think it's because most of the creatures in this game are dinosaurs.

  • what version is this the scales are smaller than shit! I used to be the shit with Sauron and Talon.

  • If you read the title, it's for the Atari Jaguar.

  • I had this game for PSone

  • Dude! What's up with that? You didn't even use the tail-whip on Chaos! lol I definitely enjoyed this game. Brings back memories... (*sighs nostalgically)

  • That's also on "Midway Arcade Treasures Volume 2".

  • this looks WAY fun!!!

i'm hoping they release a 360 or wii downloadable version, or at least SOME way for me to play the "good" version (i heard that the ps2 version is weird)

  • Download an emulator, shockmeista.

  • Love those MIDI sounds. I've always wondered what this version looked like; thank you for posting this.

  • Wow, what a great guitar sound on the first stage! It really shows of the power of CD!

  • diablo's music has a smoke on the water sound to it.

  • Actually, wasn't it Sauron's?

  • it was one of the t-rex ones ....so i dont really know.but i can hear smoke on the water in both...maybe im just weird tho.

  • Yeah, it does. I noticed this when I played PR on Midway Arcade Treasures 2

  • I remember this game, it was awesome. My personal favorite was Talon altough I was best with Vertigo. :o

  • Chaos farts....!

  • I rememebr playing this when i was little, i even collected the toys! Vertigo was always my favorite!

  • Interesting.

  • they need to remake this game but in 3D and with new characters

  • and new moves especially

  • Like Mortal Kombat

  • lag-fest

  • the characters in the gameplay looks like shit

  • Cuz its old

  • You are so full of crap. Go right now to the SNES version in the link to the right. The Jag version is better in many ways.

  • I have that game on my Sega Genesis Nomad (this is sort of Sega's answer to the Game Boy).

  • Primal Rage on the genesis is ok...

  • I agree i owned boththe SN & the gensis version & i agree that the genesis was the best home version. obviously nothing was better then playing it at an arcade

  • Primal Rage rules!

But yeah, the home versions were crap.

  • agreed, i played it in the arcades in florida when i was little.

  • q loco fazia tempo q nao lembrava do jaguar!

  • To say this looks like snes verion is just to big an insult. This is way better than the snes of course. but for a strongish machine...not to beat the 32x version at all is not good enough

  • One thing I have to say, the graphics weren't there yet, but there were a lot less glitches!

  • wow this is a joke to the saturn version and even the 32x... looks like snes yuk

  • Indeed atari arcade games were legendary. Atari and sega ruled the arcades with their legenday games. Also capcom. They were the fabulous 3 arcade makers.

  • The primal rage arcades with the widescreen and doubly 5.1 where just awsome.

The sound was blasting in your face, the bass was thumping your body and the dinosaurs were a good 20 inches tall on the screen with crisp clear graphics...

It's too bad ALL of the ports fell very short of what the arcade was.
