And not everyone buys the same "tower chassis/case"!
I have a Antec Three Hundred w/o Power Supply or fans!
And they don't have the rubber grommets for flush, tight cable management, so make a video with a Antec Three Hundred chassis regarding cable management.
Here's my specs:
Antec Three Hundred "mid-tower chassis" w/o PSU or included case fans!
GA-MA770T-UD3 rev.1.4 MB!
and a Ultra LSP 750 Watt Power Supply/ non-modular!
@TJTutorails I just wanted to make sure that you knew, and didn't get a 1200 watt PSU because you thought that your CPU temp wouldn't rise above 20 C.
@kickit246 When are you building this? AMD is releasing Bulldozer CPUs in the next couple of months, which should, in theory, blow the Phenom II out of the water. I'd consider holding off and buying one of those and a compatible AM3+ motherboad.
As for buying an SSD; they're good for OS and program files, but you'll still want at least a 500GB drive for games, files and music or whatever. SSDs are fast, but small and expensive.
Finally, the case is up to you. Most branded cases will work fine
@TheAlbinoBoar Hey thank you for the reply! I might end up ordering this around october possibly, I think I might hold off until the new cpu's come out, that sounds awesome. You don't think my current motherboard would support it though? I was really liking that motherboard I picked out lol. I think I've found a good case. Also that other guy was saying I don't need a soundcard, do you agree with that? Any input on my build is greatly appreciated, I've just been winging it on my own so far. Ty.
@kickit246 I personally don't use a sound card. Unless you're doing music/sound mixing or you want absurd 3D surround sound, or you're just a snob with sound stuff, what you get with your motherboard is usually fine. I actually do a lot of sound mixing for music and games, and I've never needed a sound card.
If you want surround sound for gaming, too, I'd recommend (if your monitor and graphics card support this) using HDMI to your monitor and using the monitor's audio output
@TheAlbinoBoar Hmm, ok cool thank! I was thinking about upgrading to surround sound next summer. I picked up a set of Turtle Beach's the other day (DPX21) and they've got built in surround sound, but I think I'll hold off. Sound cards are expensive lol. I may do that with an HDMI. I made sure my monitor supports that and I'm pretty sure my gfx card does too (Probably getting Sapphire Radeon 6970). Anyway, thank you for the reply, I really appreciate all of them like this.
@9wrongnumber Well, from my calculations, not a lot. $50-$60 isn't much to get a decent graphics card for gaming. You might be able to get an ATI HD 5570 - which is actually a pretty decent card. You'll be able to play most games on that with low or medium graphics on a not-too-large screen. You'll also have no trouble watching hi-res movies and stuff.
My little brother needed a basic card, and I gave him one of those and he's happily playing Fallout 3 as I'm typing. That's my recommendation
Very important question im planning on building my own pc and I would really like to know if I need to use the video output on my gpu or can I still use the video output on my motherboard.
@xHouseyx your GPU video output will be much better since it's a separate GPU, that's the whole point of getting a GPU - better performance. If you connect it to the Motherboard the performance will be much worse and the GPU will not be used at all as it will use chipset integrated graphics.
you know what I love about building a pc tho?...you can easily wow common users lol....seriously, because to a common typical user, this looks complex as hell but in fact....it's so easy it's like playing with lego lol
This case comes with a tempeature display, on the front. In order to get it to display tempearatures you need to place three things in areas of the PC. Where would one place them?
just left a comment criticizing the forgotten installation of the video card... and I apolagize. I guess I should have watched the full series before hand... but it just seemed like you were forgetting about it because it was already installed. I understand that you did it to keep all of the wiring in one segment. Thanks for a fairly thorough build guide.
Please someone help me. I have a intel DX58S02, a i7 processor, 2gb nvidia quadro grapgics card,Revolution 85+ 1020w PSU, an lg bludisc player & a 2tb hitachi. I put all these devices into a frisbie case and it powers on but I get no monitor output. I connected everything and had someone look at it and he told me that it's the wrong case. Can it be that the case can be responsible for me not seeing anything on my monitor? the graphic card is in the Primary slot and the 2x6 pin connected to it.
@philinmotion My friend thought that there where other things that needed to be plugged in to the motherboard that makes it function most properly from a case and fix my monitor output problem. I looked it up as hard as I can and I saw no logic in this so It's no longer a concern to me. Now I need to figure out what's the problem between the graphics card and the motherboard to why I'm not getting any monitor output.
@MrPrGustavo you need to go into your bios (hit del or perhaps f1 at startup) and look for an option that disables your motherboards onboard video. That might be your hold up.
@Haroids Thanks, thats what I thought. Then I must know why I'm not seeing anything on my monitor when I'm connecting my Graphics card just like this tutorial is showing me and connecting the power (2x6 Pin) to it. I'm building my Computer from scratch just like in this tutorial. Anyone please help.
@MrPrGustavo Just troubleshoot it. Do you hear any beeps? Do you have speakers hooked up in order to hear beeps? If not, does your motherboard have onboard graphics? If so, use it for now until you install your graphics card and the drivers. Try using a spare graphics card if your motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics.
If this didn't help, go to tomshardware (google it) and go on their forum and ask for help there. THey'd be more than willing to help you out.
@Haroids It doesn't have onboard graphics but isn't my Nvidia Quadro 4000 a graphics cards?as I trouble shooted it I've gotten 3 beeps, no beeps, and just recently it shuts off on me in 1 sec after Turning it on. I'm thinking about borrowing a graphic card to see if it does anything positive. Thank you so much for leading me to tomshardware. I posted my question in the most accurate Forum subject to my situation. All I can do is stand by and see if anyone will respond.
@iSteamPunk1 It was probably a SSD. If you don't know what it is, it's a Solid State Drive. Like a hard drive, but with no moving parts and it's A LOT faster. They're also very expensive, so they don't come in huge sizes, explaining the 128GB.

@ConfuzedSushi I actually have the 5870 in my gaming rig but was going to buy a budget graphic card for my brothers PC =) I am now wating for Nvidias new series =D
Hey , i just boght a new case and ive got 2 problems, my big mobo cable is too smaal , it cant reach from the psu to the mobo anymore in my new case, and also i dont know what to do with all the plugs that are in the case , especialy the reset button plug and the power button, in my old case it was one big plug , now its like 4 small plugs for power button and reset nd shit .
I have a 600w power unit that I will be using to power 6gb RAM DDR3, 1 fan on the top of the case and one for the hard drives, an Asus ATI Radeon HD 5670 and an Intel Core i7 950 that I will not be overclocking and using the stock CPU cooler, will this be enough to power it all?
@remix696 with these specks it is just ok i would say. these 1000watt psu monsters are onely for 4way sli overclocked to 6ghz monster processors systems. today 700 watt is enough for every "normal" highend system, even with 2way sli and gooood overclocking.
@headshooter44 ah gotcha, i have this dell 720 and its a 1000 power watt and i was concerned but realized that im not using it full unless its running full in idle i guess its pretty low. preciate the reply though.
Wrapping it up with a few more tips and instruction on installation on storage components. Great overview of all the steps to throwing one together. Check out more of PCwizkidstechtalks on reviews, overclocking, and etc. Thanks for everything wizkids!
@Lordlinkthe1 how much is this gonna come out to cause im building a computer aswell and i noticed that im going to be using the same cooler master haf 922?
@michaeljacksonator hey i just bought a laptop instead of building the pc because i got more for less and i didnt have to have the conscious of messing up the build :D
@Lordlinkthe1 the power supply is big enough best on going for some overkill cos psu's do lose there wattage over the years and also a good quality one cos if it goes pop your whole pc goes pop too
@zIIJimmYIIz hey i just bought a laptop instead of building the pc because i got more for less and i didnt have to have the conscious of messing up the build :D
You should go for a $50 500 watt psu that has at least one 6pin and also go for a 250 gts or a HD 5770 powercolor at newegg.com for $119. Which requires a 6 pin to power it.
Hey wizkid, i was wondering why people use video cards, on cpus that have integrated gpus, such as a core i3 with a gpu @ 733, and their graphics card at 650... is it because ram usage?
@UltimaOmegaX317 dedicated video cards are much better to have than onboard stuff. like say your cpu failed, now you have no graphics either. much worse. also dedicated vid cards can put M U C H more computing power for graphics, cause that is what its DEDICATED for, hence dedicated graphics card.......
@Randomshit1353 So basically a gpu card is better anyways, but if u were to only use onboard gpus the core i series would be the best bet right? (i am aware that not all i series have gpu's)
@UltimaOmegaX317 yeah or find a mobo with built in graphics (might be better than graphics from processor) or try AMD they might have one like that. BTW the difference between AMD and intel is like the difference between coke and pepsi, there is basicly none, except pepsi (amd) is cheaper and better sometimes. PM me for the best pc setup, ill send 2 one using AMD and one using intel. (basicly same except processor, and small diff in max RAM allowed and type)
@Randomshit1353 Lol. thanks, i know how to build computers and i know how to make some great builds too, i was just curious on why (this topic) people do it.
@Randomshit1353 Lol. thanks, i know how to build computers and i know how to make some great builds too, i was just curious on why (this topic) people do it. maybe we could trade build specs hehe...
@dan91121 Motherboards aren't normally in device manager. Easiest way, if you bought your PC from a retailer like best buy, is to google your computer's model and to find the motherboard. Otherwise, you can use a tool like CPU-Z to find your motherboard's model.
@XeReviews bestbuy sells crappy computers, i baught it from the dell site, if i baught it from bestbuy theyd charge like 1k for it instead of 800 bucks,
why do u have a 850w pwr supply for vid card that only needs like 600w. u dont really need a cooler if ur useing anyhting in the i5 600 series. btw how fast is the DDR3 u have? is it like bottum line at like 800mhz or more at the 1300 and up? here are my specs. i cut through more of the vid. Specs. intel core i5 750 quad core @ 2.67 ghz lynnfield, Nvida gt 220 1gb graphics card, a 300W power supply, and some tower that seventy bucks.
@dan91121 are you ok? did you get dropped on you head as a baby?? you might want to go to the doctor and get that checked out dumbass.power supplys degrade over time and maybe he is going to add another 5770. no but really you should go to the doctor im a little worried.
For the price of the Diamond ATI Radeon HD 5770, you could've gotten a better graphics card, I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, btw... But those cards have had a lot of problems in the past for people, and as much as the cost, you could've easily subbed it for a better card.
yo, absolutely brilliant tutorials - went from zero knowledge to an operational self built in like 3 days thanks to you. it hasn't even caught fire yet.
is all graphic card same in size? my case is 16inch long.

MrLog101 1 year ago
@MrLog101 i need that answer also. anyone?
remix696 1 year ago
@remix696 Nevermind i've finnished it now and it runs like a beast :)
MrLog101 1 year ago
@remix696 with these specks it is just ok i would say. these 1000watt psu monsters are onely for 4way sli overclocked to 6ghz monster processors systems. today 700 watt is enough for every "normal" highend system, even with 2way sli and gooood overclocking.
headshooter44 1 year ago
@headshooter44 ah gotcha, i have this dell 720 and its a 1000 power watt and i was concerned but realized that im not using it full unless its running full in idle i guess its pretty low. preciate the reply though.

Great Tutorial, by the way nice choice on the NZXT Phantom case ;) they are invaluable when building a very high performance PC.

Lordlinkthe1 1 year ago
@Lordlinkthe1 hmm you should get a better video card like a GTX 460 or a radeon 6870 with a $50 Ultra 650 watt PSU
michaeljacksonator 1 year ago
@michaeljacksonator hey i just bought a laptop instead of building the pc because i got more for less and i didnt have to have the conscious of messing up the build :D
Lordlinkthe1 1 year ago
@Lordlinkthe1 the power supply is big enough best on going for some overkill cos psu's do lose there wattage over the years and also a good quality one cos if it goes pop your whole pc goes pop too

@Lordlinkthe1

UltimaOmegaX317 1 year ago
@UltimaOmegaX317 dedicated video cards are much better to have than onboard stuff. like say your cpu failed, now you have no graphics either. much worse. also dedicated vid cards can put M U C H more computing power for graphics, cause that is what its DEDICATED for, hence dedicated graphics card.......
Randomshit1353 1 year ago
@Randomshit1353 So basically a gpu card is better anyways, but if u were to only use onboard gpus the core i series would be the best bet right? (i am aware that not all i series have gpu's)
UltimaOmegaX317 1 year ago
@UltimaOmegaX317 yeah or find a mobo with built in graphics (might be better than graphics from processor) or try AMD they might have one like that. BTW the difference between AMD and intel is like the difference between coke and pepsi, there is basicly none, except pepsi (amd) is cheaper and better sometimes. PM me for the best pc setup, ill send 2 one using AMD and one using intel. (basicly same except processor, and small diff in max RAM allowed and type)

dan91121 1 year ago
@dan91121 Motherboards aren't normally in device manager. Easiest way, if you bought your PC from a retailer like best buy, is to google your computer's model and to find the motherboard. Otherwise, you can use a tool like CPU-Z to find your motherboard's model.

@XeReviews bestbuy sells crappy computers, i baught it from the dell site, if i baught it from bestbuy theyd charge like 1k for it instead of 800 bucks,

dan91121 1 year ago
why do u have a 850w pwr supply for vid card that only needs like 600w. u dont really need a cooler if ur useing anyhting in the i5 600 series. btw how fast is the DDR3 u have? is it like bottum line at like 800mhz or more at the 1300 and up? here are my specs. i cut through more of the vid. Specs. intel core i5 750 quad core @ 2.67 ghz lynnfield, Nvida gt 220 1gb graphics card, a 300W power supply, and some tower that seventy bucks.
