  • @anyone When using distilled water and the alum mixture, will the water freeze in colder temperatures?

  • could you have used a little bit of ammonia and water instead of baking soda?

  • How much allum do you use to one gal. water

  • good job man. I did the exact same thing a few years back and it worked great. Thing worth noting is that voltage reading you got with the bicarb + water mix was actually the left over acid in the cell. If you let it sit for a few days, the majority will get neutralised and u'll get ~2v.

Also with the alum conversion, it still does give off hydrogen gas as a biproduct when charging.. I guess the only real benefit from the cell was the fact that you could deep discharge it without 'sulfation'.

  • i repaired my lead-acid batts by adding some fresh acid

  • Hey! Pete love this! Any info on how to do this? tx

  • What is the difference between Lead Acid Battery and Alkaline Battery? Why aren't we using Alkaline Batteries for our cars if Alkaline Batteries are common everyday use.

  • Hey Pete-I have watched many of your vids. Thanks--but I am still waiting to see any cats. WTF man? The crowd wants cats!!!

  • Could you give a complete list of what you used for this conversion?

I am interested in trying this.

how has the converted battery been working?

if you could email me the list at bld1393-ieee@yahoo.com

    thanks

  • hi pete,i had 5 batterys laid about ,(saving them to scrap)theyve been outside in yard between 1 -2 years ,in coldest winter uk has had for decades ,i took 1 and emptied acid into a tub ,neutralised residue .as you said ,used baking soda,it gave power immediatlt as yours did,it ran a small 12v tyre pump ???i filled as per your advice ,charged 24 hrs ,it showed 12.51 V,.24 hrs later i checked again ,it was left in cold garage all night,it showed 12,31V ?,RESULT LOL, jimmy ,

  • thanx for video pete, couldnt tap water do ,just to rinse out?what ratio of alum to water did you use ?can it be to little or to much ?why not vinegar or epsom salts?is alum better ?after seeing your vid,im gona try it ,my 110ah deep cycle battery has plenty of fluids in ,but wont hold charge ,so ive got nothin to lose ,and your solar panel construction is best ive seen 10/10 pete ,thanx again jimmy ,

  • Hey Pete. Where did you get the info to do this? I am looking into it too. Thanks.

  • @scoobydog411 I read a lot of tech forums and came across someone that explained his findings. He didnt want me talking about his experiments as he has had issues in the past ;o)

  • Aren't the bubbles coming off just hydrogen gas... -_-

  • @madjimms Im thiinking so.

  • you do know that those gloves wouldn't help AT ALL if acid leaked on your hand

  • John Bedini uses Alum for his batteries.

  • Although I see, if your serious...that you may be on the right track. Unforturnately all you doing is de-crystalizing the acid that is on the lead plates and recharging the solution of water and battery acid to rejuvenate the electrolyte. Mind you...that battery is now usealbe in your car if you charger if a total of 48 hours at about 4 amps. OH and battery acid that will eat through you jeans will burn your eyes so you can't see and burn your hands eventually.

  • that's pretty cool but you don't have to be that affraid of the battery acid, the worst it would do is eat holes in your clothes if you got it on them. ruined a new pair of jeans that way myself once having to do emergency roadside battery work but never any other effects from it whatsoever. had a friend that used to work at a battery shop and after 10 years of messing with batteries with no gloves on it ate his finger prints off but what normal person messes with batteries for 10 yrs?

  • @daddytech LOL thanks for the comments.. I dont deal with Acid every day so better safe then sorry. ;o)

BTW when you charge the converted battery there are no fumes like with the acid batteries.. This might be a big breakthrough for us low tech garage techs.. LOL

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • @mixcatcom yeah makes me wonder how well something like that would work in the car too and how well they'd stand up to extreeme temps.

  • @daddytech is it true what you said it ate his fingerprints off? INTERESTING..... ;)

  • @81lonesoul yes it is very true, he has since quit working on batteries but still has no finger prints at all, his hands are still just smooth even after 10 years of not working on them any more. it's kinda weird and interesting at the same time.

  • I looked up alum and it's usually some form of potassium aluminum sulfate. I'm not sure of the ph, I know sodium hydroxide (lye) is also a base/alkaline and might also have some use in batteries.

  • @trailkeeper Correct the PH is Alkaline.. To me its a lot safer to use because you wont have an acid explosion an there is no charging fumes.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • HI Pete you gonna test how long the charge lasts compared to lead acid should be interesting cheers ian

  • @bigmac2009able Cheers to you Ian! Check part 2 Its holding up extremely well.. Im very excited to post my findings.

    -Pete

  • lets see 12 volt water and baking soda? your making a HHO generator

  • WoW, that was interesting.

What will you use them for if it works the you want them to?

  • @dcs1771 Solar battery bank, but the huge plus is no fumes when its charging like acid based batteries.. Lots safer I believe.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • @mixcatcom sorry for the late post but do they hold up for a long enough time to be useful?

  • Awesome guide & tips, you make it look so easy sir :)

  • @govinda1pk Thanks.. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. It worked out well.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • I have alpha gel battery, but it is not working. deep discharged! can I save her? I tried with a 8 phase but the battery can not hold the charge :-(

  • @Prohumani Im not sure, I never worked tried to fix on of those batteries.

Let me know if you figure it out.

    Also be careful.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • Great work pete , realy interesting stuff , cant wait to see if it holds a charge , top volts and how long it lasts while running . realy interesting experiment , keep it up . thank you .stefb2005

  • @stefb2005 I let it charge a little more last night and its up to 12Volts after 7 hours of rest so its looking good, I will update you guys soon.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • Awesome. I didn't know it was that easy.

  • @edstar83 Thanks, yeah.. I have done a lot of research and it seems like this was the way to do it.

    It worked out well.

    -Pete

  • Acid rain, hehehe ( funny )

    Carefull with the lead.

You don't want to get lead disease.

Good luck and keep us updated.

    Greetings

    Erik

  • @rikkiesix Thanks, I was pretty careful and always treat chemicals with respect..

    Thanks for the comments,

    -Pete

  • Very nice! Thanks! Did you get an exothermic reaction from your water and baking soda rinse?

  • @RunAMuckGirl2 Not to badly, it fizzed quite a lot but that was about it..

    Not bad at all.

    -Pete
