  • i got this song when i was in afghanistan and loved it ever since . i had never herd it before why?

  • I found this song on iTunes but it's by Michael Hamilton and has the same background and sounds like its spazing out.

  • it's the lilting irish tunes that get me every time... I've got an irish fetish!

  • I'm Irish and I love this!!!

  • This is mostly fiddle and accordion

  • 4 people are british

  • @Fox12120 stfu i like this and im english

  • Ay, the good olde times when me and my folks would listen to this drinking ye whiskey.

  • @1Vampireand1angel I believe you're thinking of the Goddess Morrigan. She is who comes to mind when I see the title as well... it is the reason i bought a 3 disc set with this song's title and I believe it is played with a whistle and violin in the version I have... lovely happy melody, love this one even more.

  • any know what is the song after the "Irish Washerwoman"? 1:05

  • BRENDAN SHANAHAN!

  • Good music

    Greetings from Uruguay

  • @mrhp9 And proud.

  • Viva ireland and Viva Argentina

  • Is the bagpipe and pipe and drum (bodhran?) very traditional sounding?? it sounds a lot more authentic that most sterotypical irish music. I super love this music. My ancestors 2000 yrs ago in portugal were celtic in culture and language, and i imagine they'd have music similar to this :) Cheers Celtic cousins in Ireland! You survived!! We....became romans...than arabs....than portuguese :)

  • @tobias964 the only thing that comes to mind would be the folk tale of a woman who washes clothes with blood on them and you see her suposedly the owner of those clothes dies

  • the begining was used in fairy tail anime it sounds like the song that plays when they are in town

  • I love the song!!!!!!!!!!! I'm Indonesian.. :p

  • Am I mistaken or is this the same tune as in "american" song Arkansas Traveller?

  • Bluegrass was derived from Irish music, many Irish settled in the area where Bluegrass originated. That is not a negative for Irish music, only shows the influence Ireland has on the rest of the world.

    Proud to be Irish!

  • this music makes me proud to be native and irish fuckin strong breed

  • I am a redneck Kentuckian and I love it. I do believe our Bluegrass was Irish inspired.

  • @jleaves64 No. Irish music is pretty and elegant. Bluegrass is rubbish noise. >_<

  • @mrAZcardinal Yes Irish music is very nice but where do you think the Bluegrass came from and I can give you many comparisons.

  • @jleaves64 scots/irish

  • @MrCrumbsinthebutter Yes it came from Scots/Irish but I must say we did modified it a little.

  • Tiocfaidh ár lá

  • This type of music aspecially this song makes me feel really jolly and happy inside. I feel like I should pull out the old tap shoes and start dancing. Hahaha lol. ;P

  • If this many people are listening to this, it means that the music is good and that they are happy hearing it. Videos are never as important as the music. This is by ear and you like it or you don't. Some of us enjoy "Irish" music and some never will. I also like a later version, Bluegrass. The Irish gave many gifts to this world. Music was just one of them. Literature was another.

  • Thumbs up if your only as irish as you feel when hearing the hymn of a bagpipe

  • I used to dance to this song as a child. I'm still pretty sure that i know a few basic Irish jigs.

  • I'm Italian, but I stayed in Ireland for a while and now, by listening to this tune I feel nostalgic about the Ceili dance!

  • This is so stupid

  • @imawsome224 your not awesome

  • Two people are British

  • @mrhp9 the word british used to only refer to the brythonic celts like the welsh and cornish UNTIL they forced that union between scotland and england...take a look at the maps....the word britannia came through latin romans from the greek name from the celtic tribes "pretani"

  • @3tangle3 oh my god that is such an interesting story please tell it again :D Yeah I really don't give a shit.

  • @mrhp9 you need to know the history to see the irony...........dont be a punk,......get educated ;)

  • @3tangle3 So I can start correcting people on Youtube about crap they don't care about? Sure, sounds lucrative.

  • @mrhp9 shut the fuck up you ignorant twat.....have a good night :)

  • @3tangle3 Riveting tale, chap.

  • @Martinchief I may sound but lots of ppl in UK have no idea :)

  • makes me want to dance a jig...if I knew how to dance lol

  • i'm mexcican and love this music

  • ah this type of music just lifts me up. it sets my heart, and my very soul, at ease. I'm so proud to be irish and to say that this is the music of my ancestors. Goodnight to all, from America.

  • The pipers say in Ireland: "You must respect a man that can blow, squeeze and finger at the same time."

  • good luck with the potato famine and irelands bankrupt now

  • @icheatin I don't feel like I belong here in the States. Mainly it's because my family on both sides are from the British Isle's.

  • @MrPctechkid aye!

  • @MrPctechkid Mayflower? With the Puritans?

  • @tmlafrance my ancestors were a few irish that made it aboard and then sailed in hopes of a new life....came over and settled the great town of elizabeth in new jersey. established the trading.....and now we dont even get a piece of it cuz we had to sell it in the depression..

  • @tmlafrance actually im wrontg...it was the mayflower. but the mayflower made more then one voyage if i recall correctly. and the puritans were on the first. there were a mix of others on other voyages. just not alot of irish on any of them.

  • @MrPctechkid Amen to that laddie...says this Redmond

  • @MrPctechkid happens to me too, only that im in Mexico. I want to meet the Meade and the Mcdonald, :'(

  • @MrPctechkid feelin ya...

  • @MrPctechkid Have u even been to Ireland? to Europe? What does it matter if your great great great great grandfather was irish? it makes absolutely no sense that you would feel and better in some random country because some relative lived there 300 years ago

  • Yay! My favourite diddly-diddly song!

    :D

  • I don't know my nationality but everyone thinks i'm irish 'cause I have red hair. Even though I don't know I feel a connection to Ireland I can't explain. There must be a reason bagpipes can make me cry.

  • @egrewing74 you could very well accualy be scottish. the irish arnt the only ones with red hair and freckles

  • I´m in Ireland right now! haha.. just thought I´d like to have some irish flair in "my" room now.. well.. yeah the vid, isn´t really awesome.. haha.. but the music is quite nice.. ^^

  • @niekpiek i meant i would be proud if i were irish but unluckily i'm not... i love the culture and the places in ireland wish i'll go back there sometime!!!!!

  • @Astonmartin4444

    Same here lad!!!!

  • The actual name of this tune is the "Kesh jig." It was popular with Irish immigrants in America during the later half of the19th century.

I'm guessing that someone in a music hall, vaudville threatre or burlesque show

(perhaps even an early movie) used the tune to represent a washerwoman, who happened to be Irish or Irish-American.

By any name its a saucy tune; great to listen and dance to. Thanks for posting it

    :-)

  • Interesting, thanks for the information =)

  • @BoudiccaBlanc Sorry but the Kesh jig is not included here in this set. The second tune is called Hag at the Churn, I don't know the names of the others but there's no Kesh jig for sure.

  • @Ssamppas....I stand corrected! :-)

Either way it's great music :-)

  • @Ssamppas The third tune is called "The Humors Of Whiskey" and the last tune is called "Ellis Kelly's Delight."

  • @BoudiccaBlanc this is not the kesh jig. Do a search if you don't believe me

  • Comment removed

  • @BoudiccaBlanc No, the first tune in this set is in facet the 'Irish washerwoman' ( it was the first Irish tune I memorized when I was 8) The Kesh jig is also very popular but very different. RyanDunsSJ has one of the best Kesh jigs I have ever heard posted on his page.

  • @BoudiccaBlanc The kesh jig is a totally different tune... Try searching youtube for it and have a listen yourself. It's nowhere to be found in this clip, as far as I can hear.

  • proud to be irish :)

  • we played this song at our Pops concert (in high school) just this past year. it was so much fun lol.

  • nice, thanks.

  • uh idiots, the bagpipes start at 2:40
