  • whatup brotha sick channel but i just wanted to mention that the title cascadian dark ale actually refers to it being a product/style from the cascades and not because it contains cascade hops

the cascade range runs from nor-cal into BC but those of us who live here appreciate the the title cascadian.

    cheers

  • @OreganicLiving Thanks! Yeah point taken, your right it does. You had to admit though a lot of people might think it has to have cascade hops in the beer to be called that. Anyways the point I was making was both names are kinda silly.

  • I have a clone of this in it's 6th day of primary and I am still trying to figure out the dry hop. Their website has Pacific Jade and Nelson Sauvin but i have no idea how or where to get these, in your tastings what do you think of comparative more available hops that I could dry hop with?

  • @drawdy10 Both kinds have sweet aromas Pacific Jade has sweet citrus and Nelson has more of a tropical fruit sweetness. I would go with Centennial and Amarillo. I think Columbus would work also, if you have trouble finding one of the others. Hope this helps you man, good luck with your brew let me know how it turns out. Cheers!

  • @Tantrum777 Thanks for the tip, i have some Amarillo in the freezer so i am going to dry hop with that and maybe some centennial if I can find some soon.

  • I've been looking all over town for this beer for the last month or so and I finaly found it today. Drinking one right now also in a Stone IPA glass. I pretty much agree with you on all points of this review. This may just knock their Sublimely Self Righteous Ale off the top of my favorite brews.

  • Tried for 1st time tonight and very impressed. I have another bottle and I think I'm going to keep it in the fridge awhile. Man your pumpkin ale looks awesome!

  • @tiltomatic1 Yeah its a great beer, I think it should keep for a while. Thanks, I hope it is awesome.

  • You think you can review Bootlegger's knuckle sandwich dipa and their black phoenix porter?

  • @StoicFC I can not get any Bootlegger beers sorry.

  • Thanks man. You definitely gave me a new appreciation for this beer.

  • @StoicFC Your welcome, That is very cool. I am glad you liked the review so much.

  • @timus1119 Yeah Awesome beer, Thanks Tim and cheers back at ya!

  • I agree with the name Black IPA on being an oxymoron. They should just call it American Black Ale, maybe with hoppy somewhere in the name. Sounds absolutely fantastic, im glad Ryan is sending me a bottle of this! Great review Jamison! Cheers!

  • @TheMasterOfHoppets Yeah its just a bit silly calling it a Black IPA or a Cascadian Dark Ale. Yeah Its pretty damn great, Glad you are getting to try this! My Top 2 for this style is this and then the Stone SSR so Stone really knows how to make this style.

  • yeah I totally agree. Black Imperial IPA is oxymoron and name is not compatible with the styles of beer (it's good to say about that). It should call "Imperial IBA"- India Brown[Black??] Ale... Very good review.

  • @fxone10 Yeah I agree, call it something that makes more sense. Thanks man!

  • I had issues with my camera but initially I poured a large head. I was going to scrap the review but decided to go ahead with it.

It's one epic beer and I think they took style to the next level with it. I had it on cask with Amarillo hops and it's so smooth (but still really bitter) that way.

  • @StumpyJoeJr ahh ok that makes sense, do you know what the deal is with stones bottle condtioning? I mean the sediment in that bottle was nearly none. It almost seems like they force carb but do not filter or kill the yeast and what little remains produces a bit of extra carbonation....

  • @Tantrum777 I don't entirely know. I didn't even notice that this one said that on the bottle. I'll try to find out from someone from the brewery but between this and the Green Tea IPA, it's been awhile (other than the VE series) since they've done some bottle conditioned beers.

  • @StumpyJoeJr I looked at the both stone IRS's today vintage 2011 and they both said "bottle kondtioned" on them.... I just found out they all these where just recently, I did not know any of these were besides stone 15. I am glad they are doing it but I am also perplexed.

  • Awesome dude, I've been thinking about trying this one, thanks for staying up on the new beers ^_^

  • @smanthei7 You are welcome I hope you are able to try it. Its a pretty hot beer at the moment it can sell out very fast at some places.

  • Ahh Fucker! Beat me to it..lol It's a chillin in my fridge right now. Oh and I picked up that Saison you reviewed from North Coast.

  • @monkeycaveman I opened it, the day I got it (today)

Cool look forward to that review, any luck on La Trappe quad?

  • @Tantrum777 Not yet, I haven't been to Seattle yet though.

  • I agree, as much as I love Sublimely Self Righteous I liked this one even more. I felt like as the beer warmed the mouth feel got bigger and smoother not sure what temp you were drinking this at but apparently you didn't get the same feeling. From start to finish it was excellent!

  • @bhyska I was not drinking it very cold, about 55 but yeah I did get a slightly thicker mouthfeel as it warmed. I enjoyed this a ton I only was able to get 2 bottles I will be looking for a few more.

  • Sounds awesome. Have yet to see this around though.

  • @FSVR54 yeah you might wanna call around its pretty limited.
