I've found from my own experience, that once you've talked a bit and the girl is into you, when there's a silence, you don't have to talk, she'll very likely say something to keep the conversation going. For instance, in class (yes I'm still quite a young buck, just 18 ;)), I was chatting to a hottie next to me making her laugh and stuff, and I could just tell she was feeling attracted to me. I say its for the vending machine and im late for class or something.Usually one person out of the group willl be carrying that much cash . While your waiting you can make small talk.
