No decent person would destroy our Appalachian heritage, our family values, the memories of our loved ones, our precious Appalachian culture...just to get money. MTR does *not* produce jobs; it only takes them away. How much has coal production increased compared to mining jobs? The facts are there if you aren't too bull-headed to look at them. I want to know something. If this atrocity is promoting the economy in West Virginia so well, why are the tolls just getting higher? Why do we keep paying higher state taxes?

I have seen that "reclaimed" land and it is sick, unhealthy land. Most of it is nothing more than rocks with sparse bits of grass trying to grow. Mountain top removal ruins our environment and our lives. If you ever get a chance, go visit Larry. childishsong (cont'd)...how can you justify the acid runoff from these sites..all they do is build dams and let the sludge back up, creating dangerous acres of polluted water with nowhere to go..Look up 'Buffalo Creek Disaster'.interstates take up small tracts of land to build,and aren't there to continually expose more and more polluting elements from underground. My garbage is seperated and is sent to a waste sorting and reclamation facility where it is seperated and recycled, even the paper.

childishsong...I have WORKED at these sites and can assure you that there is no way possible of totally reclaiming the land or to eliminate the acid runoff. Sure they may look pretty but have a DEP person take you on a tour and show you the underlying problems that will remain for years to come. You may have to remove your Rose colored glasses to see reality though. You never answered about DIOXIN, MERCURY, and CHROMIUM or doesn't your WALK notice things of that nature ?
