  • With all due respect I was expecting to exp. the Turner Joy. Why did you download a video that show you walking along a pier for over 3 min. and just show us a long shot of the ship for about 20 sec.

  • I went on the ship when they first opened for tours and it was great! You could wander around the ship on your own and look at the crew quarters, the bridge, radio and sonar room, the galley and the ammo handling room for one of the 5" deck guns and my brother and I climbed into on the 5" gun turrets :-)

  • I was part of the decom crew on this piece of scrap iron.

  • My father is a "plank owner" on this boat.

    For the non Navy that means he was in the original commissioning crew.

    In the old times being a plank owner of a ship stricken from service and heading to scrap you could take a piece to remember it by. This went back to the days of wooden ships hence the term plank owner.

    My 1st ship was stricken and sunk for target practice, my 2nd ship is just being stored and has been since 2002. I don't think it will be a museum.
