Oklahoma, California, and other locales are currently considering similar breed specific bans and/or discrimination.
Actually law here in Ontario has grandfathered those who already own APBTs, they may keep them. However breeding and import of such dogs is illegal, which I find ridiculous. The breeding and import of idiotic owners should be illegalized.

Half of the pups (if ur lucky) inherit good, friendly genes.. whole others are aggro, dysplastic, or have other genetic diseases. BTW, many people all over the world are destroying the breeds. What's a Stafforshire Terrier but a useless rendition of the original pit bull? I prefer lean, agile pits to the muscle-bound fat heads.

Working as an ACO, the only bite I've recieved has been from a chihuahua. It is not ALWAYS the way an owner raises a dog.. Many are bred improperly (inbreeding included) and are unstable from the get-go. This is in any breed. Bad tempraments produce more bad temps. A dog that is fearful or aggressive SHOULd not be bred.. but many people who breed dogs don't care. Same reason for the increase in the cases of dysplaysia and other genetic issues. Breeders don't test as much as they should.

Eng. Mastiffs may not have poor temperaments, and Am. Pit Bull Terriers may not have poor tempraments, but when the 2 are placed together.. it's a bad bet. The inhibition about biting a human dissapears from the pit side, and the lack of drive is removed from the mastiff side. This (most of the time) makes for a bad mix. A mastiff with the instinct to kill, and the drive of a pit bull to do what it takes can be deadly. It's not the dog's fault, but the humans who bred them.

I actually know a great deal about line breeding, and it can encourage the good genes just as much as teh bad. I imagine you cull a lot of puppies to get show dogs. Half of the pups (if ur lucky) inherit good, friendly genes.. whole others are aggro, dysplastic, or have other genetic diseases. BTW, many people all over the world are destroying the breeds. What's a Stafforshire Terrier but a useless rendition of the original pit bull? I prefer lean, agile pits to the muscle-bound fat heads.

Working as an ACO, the only bite I've recieved has been from a chihuahua. It is not ALWAYS the way an owner raises a dog.. Many are bred improperly (inbreeding included) and are unstable from the get-go. This is in any breed. Bad tempraments produce more bad temps. A dog that is fearful or aggressive SHOULd not be bred.. but many people who breed dogs don't care. Same reason for the increase in the cases of dysplaysia and other genetic issues. Breeders don't test as much as they should.

Unlike you, I rescued my two, and they're 10X better than some "PEDIGREE" bull mastiff that wouldn't hesitate to eat a child. I'm an animal control officer, and it's the mastiffs that hold the highest bite record.. and they kill more people than pits. not to mention mastiffs were originally bred to HUNT and KILL humans. Where is this in the pit bull's history? NOWHERE. Also, the pit bull has been in stud books LONGER than any other dog that the UKC would recognize.

Eng. Mastiffs may not have poor temperaments, and Am. Pit Bull Terriers may not have poor tempraments, but when the 2 are placed together.. it's a bad bet. The inhibition about biting a human dissapears from the pit side, and the lack of drive is removed from the mastiff side. This (most of the time) makes for a bad mix. A mastiff with the instinct to kill, and the drive of a pit bull to do what it takes can be deadly. It's not the dog's fault, but the humans who bred them.
