As my art homework i was told to watch some lotte reiniger movies. so glad i did they are really beautiful and so cleverly done, she must have had such patience to take each picture and piece them together.
I love the ending when he carries her off to his horse and the birds fly by. The cindermaid becomes the queen! It's so charming like when you read it in a book :)
I found our about this woman through researching Jan Pienkowski, an illustrator that's obviously heaily influenced by her work. She's really inspired me with my latest graphics breif at college.
A dvd colelction of her films is being released on the 17 of this month you know... I saw it on amazon. Im going to get it for sure.
Thankyo uso much for uploading this, it's been lovely to see her work! =)
My animation professor showed a Lotte Reiniger movie to us in class and everything shes animated was done using black paper O_O yea wow!!! Gray paper and tissue paper can then also be used to create more depth. In fact thats what he assigned to us! So that will be difficult to do lol *gulp!* XD
Stop motion puppetry and animation is one of the greatest true artforms that is, sadly, waned to near nonexistence. Films like these are products of a rare and gifted genius. Just consider the crafting of the figures' elaborate negative space and detailing through lace work and delicate fingers and toes. Purely amazing.
man i cried and this isn't the first time hearing this story <3

Don't the evil stepsisters voices sound like Pepperpots from "Monty Python's Flying Circus"?

Isn't it wonderful, the way the fairy-godmother shows up in the kitchen? Lots of little black paper stars put together...so magic :-)
