Respond to this video... What does that have to do with ANYTHING? Bilingualism is the OPPOSITE of Naziism. There was never any good reason for francophones to be forced to have to deal with solely English-speaking officials when they were outside of Quebec. Making them do that implied that francophones had far less to do with the creation and development of Canada than anglophones did.
I personally feel that both French and English proudly make Canada what it is today. This video, though somewhat creative, misses the point about Quebec. Their language laws may seem draconian, but let's put this in perspective: it is to protect the French language in what is "une mer anglaise" (a sea of English). English Canada would do the same if Chinese or East Indian communities in Canada required the use of their languages in Canada.
Confederation in 1867 involved only 4 provinces with a more or less equal distribution of French and English. Now English is dominant. If you understand French people, they are very proud of their language and culture, so any disappearance of the French language is met with worry.

You have to understand that the French and English history in Canada has a deep history and a complicated one at that. You also have to understand that when the French and English joined in 1867, there was a agreement that the provinces would be running more or less their own show.
Hi, my parents had to pay for my education. In high school we were obligated to learn English. I must say that I am proud to have learn a second language. Moreso if that language was one of the two official languages of my country (Canada and not Quebec). It was also part of my college education to do 2 English courses.
Since our Country is supposedly bilingual I would hope that our English counterparts do the same and learn French, the other official language.

French Canadians can't seem to understand that French and English are no longer on an equal footing in Canada, or in the world for that matter. It was about immigrants from all over the world AND it was about the First Nations peoples, all of whom shared the work of creating Canada with English-speaking Protestants from Britain.

I think it's only fair that the english are opressed somewhere in this country. Outside of Québec, it's the French that are opressed. I do not want to get to separate, although I would not want to live in Québec. The quality goes both ways. The French are finally speaking back, this is why these bills that are being passed. There was never any good reason for francophones to be forced to have to deal with solely English-speaking officials when they were outside of Quebec. I personally feel that both French and English proudly make Canada what it is today. This video, though somewhat creative, misses the point about Quebec. Their language laws may seem draconian, but let's put this in perspective: it is to protect the French language in what is "une mer anglaise" (a sea of English). English Canada would do the same if Chinese or East Indian communities in Canada required the use of their languages in Canada.

Confederation in 1867 involved only 4 provinces with a more or less equal distribution of French and English. Now English is dominant. If you understand French people, they are very proud of their language and culture, so any disappearance of the French language is met with worry.

Hi, my parents had to pay for my education. In high school we were obligated to learn English. I must say that I am proud to have learn a second language. Moreso if that language was one of the two official languages of my country (Canada and not Quebec). It was also part of my college education to do 2 English courses.
Since our Country is supposedly bilingual I would hope that our English counterparts do the same and learn French, the other official language.

French Canadians can't seem to understand that French and English are no longer on an equal footing in Canada, or in the world for that matter. Si nous nous en rendons compte, je crois que bien des canadiens s'en rendent (rendront) également compte. La plus grosse partie de la job demeure cepeandant entre nos mains. Nous l'aurons!

I think it's only fair that the english are opressed somewhere in this country. Outside of Québec, it's the French that are opressed. I do not want to get to separate, although I would not want to live in Québec. The quality goes both ways. The French are finally speaking back, this is why these bills that are being passed. Even if Québec were to separate, there are millions of French Canadians who do not live in Québec, and millions of English Canadians who do live in Québec. No political boundaries could separate this shared culture that has co-mingled for hundreds of years.
