I love this great job on this and thank you for your work!!! I lived in Memphis and this made me "home sick". The music, food and the casinos in Tunica.
Without a doubt, a brilliant selection of photos, from years ago to current. You captured the feeling of this song as well as Memphis. It stirred my spirit. Thanks!
There are many different types of Blues, Delta Blues for one, Beale Street in Memphis and even the Chicago Blues, Buddy Guy comes to mind along with Jimmy Rodgers, Muddy Waters, and Howlin Wolf,,,
Listen to Chers version . X-files "walking in Memphis" . Chers version is much better . Nothing personel . Marc has a great voice but not for this song .
@maddogtannen1966 First, it's spelled "Nothing PERSONAL." Perhaps your taste is reflected in your spelling; "unaware." How is it that they guy who wrote it doesn't have the voice for it? His "version" has deep feeling and passion, her version is just cranking it out.
Talk about going straight to a girl's heart. I was born n raised in Ohio. Moved to Memphis on a whim when I was 20 years old. Lived there for 6 years. I know where every single place is that's in these photos. I have come back to Ohio for a short time because somethings fell apart. But, MEMPHIS, is my home! I will always have Memphis close to my heart. I cried when I watched this video. So much culture and Southern Hospitality is alive and strong in Memphis!

Just moved out of Memphis after living in Midtown for a year. These pictures bring back some great memories of one of the best year's of my life. It gets a bad rap sure, but I fell in love with the place and I miss it already. Here's to Memphis!
Great Video....can someone explain why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not in Memphis, but in, God forbid, Cleveland? Yes, I know American Bandstand began in Cleveland, but became famous in Philadelphia, so my friends in Philly say it should be there! But Memphis is the unquestioned home of Rock and Roll !!!
@BigBird1017 Just seen your question and we were fortunate enough to come from the UK to Memphis, Clevland, Nashville and finally New Orleans in 2009 what a great holiday for us Brits and the guy in Cleveland told us in answer to you question that Cleveland simply offered more money to get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame But Memphis was fantastic as is your country
@mallett4 The city of Cleveland did NOT offer more money for the R&R Hall of Fame. Anyone who knows anything about Cleveland absolutely knows that it has no money! The real deciding factor for putting the Hall of Fame there was that a Radio Disc Jockey (Alan Friedman?) in Cleveland was the first to use (and coin) the term "Rock and Roll" on the airwaves for the new kind of music. And they played it ALOT! Also, I believe American Bandstand spent it's early broadcast days in the city of Cleveland.
My daughter and I just came from our first trip to Memphis and we got to see Beale St. and Graceland. This video brought back many great memories since we saw almos all that is posted here. This will be a great keepsake as well as our personal photos. God Bless Memphis. What a great time and wonderful city with fantastic people!! Be proud Tennessee!!
Thanks for bring back a great vacation - I spent a week in the city of Memphis. The pictures bring back memories of that great week of vacations. Memphis gets a bad rap in some peoples mind. But it was one of the best weeks in my life, Beale street and the music and for this fat man...the food was awesome. Thanks again for this great video !!!!
Born and raised in Memphis. Just wish I could figure out why the hell my home has gone so down hill. We had the cleanest city in the country, the best water, along with a few other high accomplishments.
Now we're getting most blue, dangerous, and hungry. What the hell happened?
Hopes AC can fix the mess of the last few decades,,,but I seriously doubt it without before being locked up or dirty laundry being aired.
@fredthejunkman Thought the same thing. Probably one of the best versions of this song on YouTube, except for that part. He's too old to thank that cussing makes you sound cool, so not sure why he would do that.
You did a wonderful job on the video. My family lived, worked and died on the Mississippi River for well over a hundred years. The old photos, the pictures of life in that city just hits your core.
Awesome! Shows some great scenes of Memphis. Only needs a picture of The Hollywood Cafe in Tunica, Miss. to be perfect. Love the fried pickles at Hollywood!
1985darkslide, Don't wish...Dream. There is a difference. Kinda like the difference between fog and clouds. Fog obscures your vision....Clouds clarify it.
Here is some info. from wiki that's spot on: "In 1909, W. C. Handy wrote "Mr. Crump" as a campaign song for political machine leader E. H. Crump. The song was later renamed "The Memphis Blues". Handy also wrote a song called "Beale Street Blues" in 1916... From the 20s to the 40s, Louis Armstrong, Muddy Waters, B. B. King, Rufus Thomas, and other blues and jazz legends played on Beale Street and helped develop the style known as Memphis Blues."
1nadedead: It's the main blues strip in Memphis. It's rich in history, and if you go to Memphis and want to "know" its origins, it's a must. W.C. Handy, btw, is touted as the father of the blues (although, I'm sure there are many who disagree...also, he first heard the sound he brought back to Memphis in Tutwiler at the train station...read up on the historyk it's worth knowing!)
@1nadedead Probably a famous street in Memphis, Like someone singing about New York and talking about 5th Avenue, L.A. - Melrose, Rodeo Drive, Washington D.C. - Pennsylvania Ave..and so on
