@TheGreatBunghole16 Not in the initial scan of AP's. But (and this is speculation) I believe you could see when people attempt to connect. Just as you can see their MAC address, you could see the SSID or BSSID they are pointing to. So it's possible, but it would make it harder to target.

If I believed I could be in the presence of such a network, I would scan for a few days, filter out duplicate SSID's or BSSID's, then I have a very good idea of all the networks in the vicinity.

@TheGreatBunghole16 A router needs to have up and down communication. Broadcasting the SSID is only a down part. It has no control of network adapters attempting to connect up to it. I would think a unique reference must be made. Otherwise how would the router know which packets were destined to it?

I may be wrong. You would have to use a tool like this or Wireshark to prove it But I think you'll see an SSID or a BSSID. Something that you can go on. Then just keep going at it.

If you don't crack it then, no you can't get it. It's encrypted cracking it is decrypting it. There's no way around it you need the key. You can get it from other methods, but unless someone who knows it gives it to you in some fashion you must crack it.

Yo, nice video. I still have a question though. I spoofed my MAC to gain access to the wifi network, but it is kicking off my friend with the same mac. I set myself a static IP and there still seems to be conflicts. Is it because of the routers DHCP?

@strongnoob Even if the IP addresses of two machines are different, you still cannot have two machines on a single WiFi network using the same MAC. Every machine must have a different MAC.

If one computer is already using a given MAC address, and then another computer comes along and tries to use the same MAC, then there will be a conflict, and one of them (or both) is going to end up unusable until the other one goes away.

i have winows xp and ive tried many mac changers and get the same results it changes the mac address but cant connect back on the internet why?

Well you have too look up you ip information and see if your getting a valid ip address. Type ipconfig. It should look the same as your router except for the last byte. I'm not sure if any mac address is valid which might result in weird ip addressing or it not working at all since all information is sent by mac address from you to your gateway.

hey great vid! I've been using a network that has mac filtering on using this technique but lately i get into the network(bars are full on airport) but It won't load web pages. Is there additional mac filtering options that are in place now? Can I get around this? thanks for your help.

It could possibly be more than just connecting to the network that the mac address is used for. For example, my school uses a RARP server to assign IP addresses based on a mac address, and you can connect just fine with any MAC address, but unless if you have designated MAC addresses the RARP server will not assign IP that you can get a useful connection with.

To the people hating on this guy you probably should learn how to hack a WEP on your own before trying to do this. This is kinda simple concept but advanced at the same time because you should know the basics of programs such as kismet(linux) or kismac(mac) and know how to fake your mac address.

All that I am doing is searching for mac addresses, it isnt too important to see a detailded list of the mac addresses. You dont even have to do it this way. It's just one program that shows network activity among other things. You should be able to do what I'm doing if you read the commands to change your mac address and find a program that allows you to view mac addresses of packets.
