  • Keith actually had a GREAT rythm and time notion. He doesn't keep the beat (that, actually is up to Pete), but he never miss the spot on any Who's song. and he's no trying to show any technical hability here, he's just doing what he does best: playing the shit out of that drums

  • that whole time i was just waiting for him to hit that drum with the fish in it and they all freak out or die or something

  • @IStanleyDC i personally think they're equals. keith was a master of drum rolls and bonham was amazing with one bass drum. sadly, they're both dead. i bet they do drum competitions in heaven haha

  • Love the Dancers! HAHAHAHA

  • click track is American English for Keith Moon.

  • KEITH IS BETTER THAN JOHN BONHAM

    Obs.:like john bonham also

  • I found it crazy when people say he's a sloppy drummer. Although he isn't the kind of drummer that keeps a beat, he can keep control in what he plays and it sounds good.

  • wonder who swallowed the goldfish after the show...

  • Goldfish love rock and roll.

  • COME TO THE DARK SIDE, WE HAVE GOLDFISH!!!

  • this drum solo sound like a drunk teenager, one of the worst i have ever heard

  • @4ustrider..ok, then..here's what i have to say to that..you are NOT a true musician, because if you were, you'd know that Moon's contribution to rock drumming and history is paramount and the antithesis for most hard rock, punk and metal drumming..Moon was the original drumming showman, and as a drummer and sound engineer for the last 27 yrs,i have to say that he had some great chops and musical sensibility.

  • @4ustrider yes, he is not the most technical drummer out there, and is completely sloshed here, but that's what made him so unique and loved and respected !.. even Bonham was good friends with him and loved his playing..Neil Peart also stated several times that Moon was a huge influence in his playing, along with all the other jazz drummers he listened to.

  • @4ustrider .so before you make a comment such as this one, make sure you know what you're actually talking about..also, the negative aspect of your comment is something fans of the Who and Moon won't care to read..so if you don't like his playing, move one to another video, rather than trying to belittle a rock legend, something you've failed at doing !..not trying to start a scuff with you, just making you realize the implications of your comment..that's all..cheers !

  • OOOH BABY..I love this drum solo.

  • All Musicians have their styles, modern drummers aimlessly beat the hell out the drum kit, for volume. Keith and his Ilk came from a Jazz upbringing, so playing the drums PROPERLY was automatic to them. jazz drums are the way to learn to play properly. Love your playing keith, but then again I'm a Jazz Guitarist.

  • C'mon uploader. Give us some information like the year this was recorded and what show it part of, etc.

  • @TheGoldvarg

How about a "thanks for uploading"?

  • If I had to be a fish, I would be une of the goldfish in moon's drumkit.

  • Best drummer in rock history.

  • all goldfish were harmed in the making of this solo

  • Wo! Check out that guys moves! 0:42

  • 5 people disliked the people dancing but liked the Keith!

  • Keith Moon the loon was a legend on the drums and the fact he drove his Rolls Royce into a swimming pool........

  • @LifeeeeeHD was a cadilac mate

  • the dancing people killed me XD

  • People need to see what Kieth was actually trying to show in this solo. if you watch and listen closely you will understand that what he is doing is hitting the drum with one stroke then he moves on to hitting it with two hits in every one stroke till he is hitting three hits per every one stroke of his arm. also you have to imagine that he is doing so with BOTH arms. it may sound messy to some but that's just because of how much is actually being controlled.

  • @Kina1981 Indeed, and people also need to remember what a sense of humor Keith had, which he injected into every beat he played. Any perceived sloppiness in this performance may have been, at least in part, executed in jest.

  • all of you , please check out dogs part 2, the ox, and cobwebs and strange, then comment, much better examples of keiths ability, they are on here. thanks.

  • MITCH MITCHELL, Nº1.

  • also the show was one of ABC in concert's first annaversaries which kieth actually hosted and ringo star made a guest appearance

  • just to spice up the old argument of;

    moon vs peart vs bonham

on a double bass set moon would lead with his LEFT foot which to a guitarist is like playing with your guitar the wrong way around.

    as you were (:

  • did he EVER even play the fish filled drum?!?!?!?!? What a tease!

  • Does anyone know what tv show this is from? I think it was some charity event? I dunno... Please help!

  • How many other drum solos have you heard that someone CAN dance to?

  • @ballhawk387 ohhhh man this video chad smith.. and a nice ass moving............ watch?v=TFgX_HzrIpo

  • bubanj nije ritmicki vec melodicki instrument

  • Where is that bongo sound coming from?

  • @JacklandInc I think he has one of his snares on a different setting. On all snare drums there's a little lever that changes the sound of the snare, and it almost sounds like a bongo

  • that is one crazy motherfucker.

  • Though I'm not a drummer I am a self-taught musician and I understand percussion. I like Keith Moon. He is enjoying himself here, though this solo is sloppy in spots. It's simple, a bit like "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida," straight four on the bass drums while using the toms in a melodic manner, playing a steady groove people are dancing to. Nobody has ever danced to "Moby Dick," so yes, this does have entertainment value. It's not his best, but it's Keith Moon, the most legendary drummer ever.

  • i personally love the way keith moon plays... he plays what we wants how he wants and he has fun... neil peart plays what he wrote as clean as possible and goes to work... neil peart has been a huge influence on my style in a strange way as much as i hate him and i couldn't thank him more for it but i just prefer attitude and energy more than technicality and consistency... my 2 cents take it or leave it

  • i think all those goldfish died halfway through

  • lol the little black kids dancing in the isle are hilarious

  • rainbow of "California Jam 1974"

  • Keith is the craziest classic drummer ever not able to compare him and neil two diff styles and drummers shitbag critics.

  • a kick drum that goes on 1 2 3 4 for 5 min non-stop. that's not a great drummer. moon = overrated.

  • @TruthSurge its brilliant..you are probably one who thinks neil peart is the best ever..neil peart is rediculously overreated

  • @TruthSurge

Okay, how about you show us a video of how good of a drummer you are?

  • Since Neil Peart has come up so much in the discussion, great drummer, but still don't know why, for the life of me, his drums were so often engineered to sound like sofa cushions?

Awful 70s engineering, covering the set with way too many mics, resulting in phase interference out the wazoo. Yet Moon's drums escaped such a fate, at least until Who Are You (to some degree).

  • Wow!!!!

WHY are most of the versions of this I've seen cut to the LEAST creative, musical, and interesting minute of it????

A drum solo with an actual GROOVE? Leave it to one of the most MUSICAL-- if hardly recognized as such -- drummers in recorded history!

  • this drum solo sucks

  • yeahhh!!! keith moon

  • moon had style......

  • he woulda never been able to use an electric drum set it'd be broken in like 5 mins

  • woah.. did not know. impressive.

  • @Torsti2003z miten sait tan lahetettya ?

  • @koponenii siis häh

  • @Torsti2003z selvis jo..SILAKKA SILAKKA ! :)

  • Shit, is his cheek bleeding? Hmm. Doesn't matter, still one of the best drummers the world has ever seen. he died to early :'(

  • @armadafanforever

For whatever reason, he's wearing face paint. This was in the heyday of KISS, so maybe he was lampooning Peter Criss. Just a guess, but he is wearing face paint.

  • Keith Moon didn't die from an overdose, God needed drum lessons.

  • SIMPLY... Un-Fucking believable. He was and still isthe best and certainly the most lavish and soulful rock drummer EVER.

  • I like Moby Dick and Pleasure Dome better

  • Just pure genues.. Keith always played a solo

  • 3 people deserve to die

  • That goldfish has no idea how lucky he is...

  • that aint falco

  • Keith Moon: "Drum solos are boring!"

  • 0:40 dancing to a drum solo? bit wierd

  • this isn't t rare anymore if it's on youtube.

  • Who disliked this!?!

  • @RENN0C PETA

  • Nice, the full version finally, and LOL looks like the Jackson 5 trying to fill up the aisle with their....whatever... dance that is.

I've heard better solos from Moon than this, this is likely when he was on his way downhill in the 70's.

  • His style of playing is strange to say the least.

  • hot damn he's fun to watch. thing with moon tho he sounds fuckin phenomenal with 'the who' but his drumming most likely won't suit other bands - he's so wild.

  • He's definitely a character, there's no denying that. I dunno though, this is painful to listen to for me, he's just button mashing. As a drummer myself, I'd definitely take bonham over Moon and Peart any day. His drumming is just more musical to me, having more skill than Moon and less pretension than Peart, with his giant rotating kits. Bonham had the most interesting feel of the group I think.

  • @conservatory I agree with you 100%. A lot of it is relatively simple and unsophisticated. Moon was a fantastic drummer, but not a great soloist.

  • haha 1:01 african people dancing

  • @marcus123211 its a bit sad to dance to a drum solo isn't it?

  • DUDE STOP FUCKING ABUSING THE FISH THATS LIKE TAPPING ON THE FKING GLASS TRO THEM

  • God, stop comparing about drummers all the time.just enjoy their drumming.peart is not comparable with moon as their styles of music are totally different, and so are their views on music and solo.no one is better

  • @stkyriakoulisdr People like you keep youtube running:D

  • poor goldfish :o, amazing solo though!

  • THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS ON!

  • Lunar the loon Keith Moon

  • I don't know why but I just find the dancing eerily strange.

  • I love how it cuts to the kids dancing. Moon's solo's were interesting and rhythmic.

  • what's with the dancing

  • there might be technically better drummers, but KEITH MOON is unique, a star, a madman, a comedian, a drunk clown, a depressed alcoholic, a drug addict..well,to all the technical drummers: BE THAT ALL AND PLAY DRUMS LIKE THIS

  • @towser06 This is probably one of the best comments ever posted about Keith Moon being compared to other drummers!

  • keith at his best

  • Definently different.

I don't know much about Keith apart from his death :(

I wish I grew up with this stuff, it would probably have taught me more control on my left foot.

I'm only 17 but I'm open to the awesome early drummers, I love the Heavy Metal, but I do adore the early early stuff how it pretty much inspired eg. Slayer to make awesome music!

  • Those are Ludwigs. Kool!

  • When Keith Moon arrived in heaven God sent that teaches you to play drums first!

  • he was so badass!

  • Those poor goldfish....

  • Keith Moon was crazy good, probably one of my favorite drummers. But this is probably one of the worst solos ive ever heard. But thats only because his drums are filled with water. Hes still fuckin sick though

  • yeah i totally agree. I mean look at jimmy page for instance. If you watch a live performance, jimmy is extremely sloppy. yet he is considered one of the best guitarists of all time! (btw i think jimmy page is awesome)

  • anyone else think he's over rated?

  • @13haydn14 / no one does

  • I'd call him overrated if he weren't so consistent. Some of the time he sounds like he's just banging mad, but the fact that he could do it again and again and make it seem like he didn't miss a beat; the reason why I never take him off the list.

  • he's nuts on a drum that's for sure. the only reason Neil Peart is voted the best is because he's alive; if Moon or Bonham were alive i dont think it would ever be decided

  • um... no, Neil Peart is voted the best because of his skill, not because he's alive. If that were the case, then Hendrix wouldn't have been rated the greatest guitarist of all time now would he.

  • @MrBeaux I don't think he (Hendrix) is anyway. I believe that standing belongs to Jimmy Page or Ritchie Blackmore. but on the subject of drummers one could very well argue that the 3 I've mentioned are more than excellent and I for one tend to hold them all on the same level as being the best.

  • @TheFeanaur its hendrix

  • @MrConfuzeable and you can't give me a good reason for that except it's what Rolling Stones says.

  • @MrBeaux

But, well, let's start, i'm a huge Rush fan, as i'm a huge fan from The Who, but, let me tell you, as a drummer, Neil got an incredibly giant drum kit, and he can do more sounds because of that, Keith gor one starter drum kit, and he still do insane solos with it, i mean, Keith can do a great job, with any drum kit, let's think, what would happen if Moon use the drum kit of Neil.

  • @ForceOfLight this is just a rough estimate but i think the world would explode

  • This is fairly boring. Peart's the master of solo variety to keep it interesting, with the triggers and the different time signatures and sections. "Anatomy of a Drum Solo" explains this well. And I'll bet Moon and the others couldn't do Peart's waltz beat tribal combo, that is sick, I'm still practicing it.

  • This reminds me of "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" when the guy gets out of jail and he walks out with fish in his platform shoes lol. Keith Moon is amazing I don't even play drums but what Moon did in five minutes Bonzo did in twenty and Keith did it the whole time with gold fish, and random dancers haha.

  • The difference between Neil pert and Keith moon; Neil could get the sound that keith has from a 20 piece kit... Moon could do it with a 5 piece. KEITH RULES!!!

  • @Blubrackets Not really man. Neil used a little kit to start off with. He used one at the Buddy Rich memorial concert, and throughout the 70's/Fly by Night album. Keith couldn't touch his work. And...the kit that Keith is on now isn't no five piece, and he still managed to make it sound pretty shitty and random. Sit Neil behind that kit, shiiieettt.......

  • @nevinkel when u listen to neil peart though the rhythms he plays when he does the so calles extraordinary fills are just straight 16ths down his 35pc row of toms while keith moon will play these insanely complicated rhythms on an 8pc most of thime

  • @sjproductions100 There's nothing complicated about this at all. Listen to the fllls on Bytor and the Snowdog then get back at me.

  • @nevinkel still not as complicated and me and alot of other people could easily transcribe his fills on that song

  • @Blubrackets

I love Keith Moon, he's my Favorite drummer from his time ,(John Bonham 2) I really liked how much of a cool freak Moon was and how awesome his drumming is on their greatest Hits of The Who.... he was / CLOWN ~! Neil Peart is a much better drummer though.... know your stuff 1st*

  • @honvetops good point. I also posted that comment before i got into Rush

  • @Blubrackets Hey do not bash neil ok... Keith moon is amazing i already know that but the problem is with keih moon no understood his technique or his style or wat he would do next. he was insane as hell so it took neil A longer time because of the fact of breaking down his style and who could copy that solo

  • @Blubrackets All are amatuer kids compared to Joe Morello

  • @Blubrackets dude look up Neil peart at the buddy rich memorial concert then you can say how he has a 20 piece set.

  • @Blubrackets Peart can't even get the sound Keith had!

  • @Blubrackets Do you not see how big Keith's drum set is? I'm pretty sure it has MORE drums than Neil does, but in a smaller area. Don't get me wrong, I love Keith's style and I love Peart, and without Moon there wouldn't even be a Peart (Keith was one of his biggest influences) but Neil has a much more controlled style which gives it an added layer of difficulty. Keith played like he was on drugs all the time (not to say he wasn't). It's too difficult to compare the two (master vs apprentice)

  • @Blubrackets I love The Who, and Moon, but I'd say Neil Peart is more skilled at playing drums. That's not to say Keith sucks, he's awesome. I just feel Neil has more work when playing Rush music.

But of course Rush probably wouldn't be Rush without The Who.

  • @Blubrackets

No disrespect towards Keith Moon he's a great drummer, but i strongly disagree, first off Keiths kit sounds way out of tune, and he doesn't play nearly as fast as neil, also to move around from all the peices of neils kit is extremley difficcult

  • You guys forgot about Mike Portnoy he is one of the top five drummers of all time.

    1. John Bonham

    2.Buddy Rich

    3.Keith Moon

    4. Neil Peart

    5. Mike Portnoy.

That is coming from the UK' Rhythm Magazine.

  • You have to look not only at technique, but their influence on future generations of musicians. So, here are the top 10 drummers of all time, any other list is incorrect! 1. John Bonham 2. Keith Moon 3. Ringo Starr 4. Carmine Appice (Robert Plant and Jimmy Page considered him to replace Bonzo but obviously decided to just break up instead) 5. Ginger Baker 6. Charlie Watts 7. Ian Paice 8. Cozy Powell 9. Nicko McBrain 10. Lars Ulrich
  • 1: Buddy Rich 2. John Bonham 3: Keith Moon 4: Neil Peart 5: Ginger Baker 6: Carl Palmer 7: Ringo Starr 8: Carmine Appice 9: Terry Bozzio 10: Bill Bruford Fixed :D
  • Well, Keith did learn primarily on his own, but he did take a few months lessons from Carlo Little. But Keith would've still played like Keith regardless of any lessons or not.

You can't really compare who were the "best" drummers because there were too many who influenced generations.

  • all of you are wrong, and pretty ignorant too, especially about dear keith moon.

KEITH MOON IS NUMBER ONE DRUMMER OF ALL TIME.

he was a genius and totally original.

don't any of you know that drummer's use a high hat to keep time while drumming? keith never used one because he said he never needed one.

plus he was never taught,he is natural.original,he can play the base drum with left foot keeping beat and right for rhythm, then whenever he liked switch feet, right beat, left rhythm, that is talent

  • ... He was taught.

But his teacher said that he was too crazy even if he played very well...

and he also taught things to bonham :)

  • thank goodness you know it all.

you must make your parents incredibly proud.

i suppose god asks you to take over for him when he gets tired of running the universe.

  • This awful just random beating on drums no complex patterns or rudiments just 8th notes on drums and hi hat requires coordination something he never had.

  • It's Keith all the way...dig it

  • *fell off chair*

  • tommy lee!

  • Marco Minnemann #1

  • 1.buddy rich

    2.keith moon

    3.john bohnam

    4.mitch mitchell

    5.neil peart

  • And where is Gene Krupa? The one who inspired most of these drummers?

  • @MojoRising1988 What about Carl Palmer?

  • you are all wrong

    this is the REAL order

    1.Neil Peart

    2. Kieth Moon

    3.John Bonham

    4. Mitch Mitchell

  • nice

keith moon is the best drummer ever

  • i dont no the other 2 but ive heard of neil peart

plz let me know wich bands they r from

  • John Bonham-Led Zeppelin, Keith Moon-The Who

Also, Mitch Mitchell (no pun intended)-The Jimi Hendrix Experience. He's REALLY GOOD!! Listen to She's So Fine and Fire by Jimi Hendrix, really good drumming

  • nOOOOO

ITS tony royster jr. keith moon then john bonham

  • Buddy rich, gene krupa, keith moon, john bohnam, neil peart.

  • Gotta throw in Danny Carey

  • FINALLY

I was gonna say, jeez, this isn't rare, there are about 50 billion other of this one.. but actually no, the others are the shortened 2 min clip

i was always waiting for this Long version to be posted up

    Good Stuff
