  • 50 people don´t know what´s music...

  • awesome,HE was a amazing pianist,feeling is everything...

  • Nothing like drinking just a bit too much wine and getting misty over some Bill Evans ballads when you should be working instead. Thanks for making life a bit sweeter for the rest of us Mr. Evans.

  • video response:

    watch?v=37-XEbWXiGE

  • Uhhh, ovo je fenomenalna balada, pogledajte kako je samo Bill izvodi...

  • I love the way he hit the piano. His sense of touch is really touching!

  • Bill Evans to jazz is like what Bob Marley is to reggae, genius

  • i am a sax player and in his music is something so wonderful...............those who pretend take note.......x

  • All the things....we hear...!!!!!!

  • Of the many recordings I own by Bill Evans, this is the tune that just stops me in my tracks... I have to just put aside whatever I'm doing and listen until it's done. Such a sublime combination of simplicity and artistry all at once. Thanks for this, Jane. It was so great to watch while he played one of my all time favorites.

  • Untouchable. Bill Evans in my book is one of the greatest artists ever.

  • What a true great pianist, I think the best.

  • one of my faves!

  • That little build-up from 2:37 to 2:47 might be the prettiest jazz I've ever heard.

  • Que seria del mundo sin musica como esa, sin personas que pueden darle un sentido al universo por medio de notas, el engranaje cosmico representado por las manos del maestro Evans.

  • TheJazzzCritic approves of this filmclip. Bill Evans often hated it when his work was analyzed...he always thought it should be listened to and enjoyed. But, in his own modest way, was drawing attention away from the fact that he was a pioneer - pioneering into the uncharted lands of "the new sound", a new way of playing jazz. Everything about this rendering by this trio is pure perfection.

  • sublime :)

  • This song tastes like a bowl of Count Chocula. On a Tuesday.

  • Real music, real emotions.

  • Sounds like whiskey...

  • The harmony he used is just like chocolate.

  • may i ask what is this type of music? jazz? lounge? I always want to find some music score online, cause when i search "jazz piano", those "exciting", rhymatic jazz come up, and i dont want that kind of music :D I'm looking for those lounge, smooth, free style, jazz :D:D anyone can help me :D?

  • @jacline28 Its jazz. You just need to know which artists, pianists, make the kind of music you like. Searching "Jazz Piano Ballads" may lead you to some of what you are looking for. However, I suspect that you are looking for more than what ballads have to offer. You may be after a hint of swing. Seems as if you want contemplation music.

Here, perhaps, are a few you should give a listen:

Oscar Peterson - I Got It Bad

    Erroll Garner - Misty

(And of course more Bill Evans)

    Hope I've helped.

  • @TheBestInterest thanks a lot, thebestinterest! :) and thanks for the suggestions! I will go and have a listen now :) btw, do you have any jazz ballads piano book recommend?

  • @jacline28 This is jazz but can be played in a lounge setting - creats a great mood for a cocktail a dinner.

  • the bass is some how a bit too heavy? and the drums is a bit too soft haha. (or is it just my speaker :D?) thanks for posting the video, you brighten my 2012 first day :)

  • have listened to jazz piano all my life and just now discovered Bill Evans? Was my head in the sand? Lovely.

  • jazz pianists like bill evans definitely know how to press a bunch of keys and make it into something so wonderful :')

  • @johnsoncm65 plz don't wrote such comment, it hurts, and i will upset. Dislike can be any reasons, no need discuss that. Tell us why u like this clip, okay? :)

  • @johnsoncm65 why make such a comment, why? how's your heart?

  • @johnsoncm65 Actually, I doubt any republicans or right wing fools, would actually like jazz, since bill evans did a lot with coltrane and Davis, who are both balck, due to the racism they would despise him...so when you say vote for obama you meant vote for bush, oh wait that was rigged

  • @tonebenderv5 ignorant idiot shut up

  • @DAYTONACOUPE651 Because I don't approve of racism, Doesn't make me ignorant, and being opposed to the thought of less tax for the rich more for the poor, actually also makes me not an idiot, I have no problem with right wing politics until it starts getting ridiculous eg; anti-abortion, against every religion but Christianity, against people of different creeds, against people who believe in free rights and so on. So, you are obviously at a level of ignorance yourself

  • Sublime.

  • What can you say about Evans other then Genius?

  • perfection.

  • this guys a genius, i mean the way he's playing those keys is just fucking beautiful and possesses great artistic integrity like few i've seen

  • Leaves you speechless.

  • The definition of making a piano sing!

  • Why would people dislike this? This is how a ballad should be played!!! Especially a classic like My Foolish Heart.....I've also always liked the fact that he played it in A major.

  • @dlmnf4 they pushed wrong button ;)

  • @jane8948 . Yeap. that's because they surely know nothing about "keys". That's why they typed the wrong key on their keyboard. ;)

  • when i was a kid, in the early 70's i heard this tune. immediately i knew i loved jazz.

  • There are people who actually dislike this? This is REAL music!

  • @housedubs1 Beautiful recording but, having used this on -contnuous play- as a sleeping aid many years ago I finally got a bit bored with it and now prefer Elaine Elias' version.

  • El mejor pianista de jazz de todas las epocas... Sabia encontrar los silencios... que es lo mas dificil... Todos creen que es mejor llenar... El sabia lo que pocos encuentran

  • Brilliance amongst other things....

  • Why is Antonio de Valdés at the end?

  • Master piece if a master musician

  • just listen and watch. bill evans had amazing style on the piano. i love the way his head sunk low, hunched over. it fits the music perfectly. ahhh :)

  • No business...this is music from the heart....Bill Evans , for me, is the best pianist of all time!!! and jazz is art .

  • @AndMusicMan MUSIC IS ART!

  • Comment removed

  • Gracias por subir esto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seems he's praying while he's playing....

  • @geminivirgo1 I always thought he must have some neck problem, I had an uncle who went like that, and it was neurological. Not that my uncle could play the piano, he was an upholsterer.

  • @rostron17 Ahahahah! English humor is awesome! :-))

  • Ufff... qué grandioso, Bill!

  • Genius. The most under-appreciated genius I know of.

  • Absolutely marvellous!!

  • It's like rain falling on a tin-roof, while the piano calmy embraces my stress from my best chair in front of the fireplace. drinking scotch and smoking a cigar, in my robe.

  • Paisteguy - great comment, youre totally right, and what a shame more people dont 'get it'.

  • I think my philosophy on music is that classical/boroque is like the foundation, the essence as you will, of music, music going in a straight line. Jazz is music going sideways. And it's wonderful.

  • No I'm just going to ignore your ignorance. Go eat your big mac.

  • The Beatles aren't the world's biggest evil -- not even in the world of music. There are many mansions in the house of Euterpe.

  • Que maravilha, confesso não outro tranquilizante melhor.

  • If Heaven doesn't have a piano and Bill Evans...I an't goin'

  • They made sure to take this away from us by launching the biggest evil in music called " The Beatles"

  • @mikakrstic That's a rather ignorant comment.

  • @zosobeatles Well, when you get a PHD in jazz music and a Masters in classical, I may consider your comment valid : )))

  • @mikakrstic So you're just gonna shove some blah-blah titles in my face in order to make your comment justifiable? It doesn't work that way.

  • @zosobeatles No I'm just going to ignore your ignorance. Go eat your big mac.

  • @mikakrstic I guess you hate Beethoven too then, for bringing on the Romantic era. And Debussy, what an ass. Seriously, go eat your Chicken McNuggets.

  • @zosobeatles @mikakrstic I really wish you all can enjoy Bill Evan's work without attacking any other musicians, no matter you like them or not. I have no judgment about "The Beatles". If this arguing continue, i may have to delete your comments, plz don't force me. Thx.

  • @zosobeatles Beethoven and Debussy were great composers not losers. You're just a kid going through your gay-boy band time aren't ya...lol

  • @mikakrstic No, but unlike you I have accepted the fact that nothing is constant, especially not art, and that standing in the same place for too long doesn't bring any benefits.

  • @zosobeatles That is because the place you're standing in with art always sucks.

  • @mikakrstic come on man, you cant hate the beatles. sure theyre early stuff was incredibly poppy, but they really are geniuses (well mcartney was, the other three not so much) i bet bill evans enjoyed the beatles

  • @ShipsAreBurned Finally someone with brains and class! Thank you. I do not hate anyone, I particularly don't hate Paul McCartney. The problem is totally something else. in the early 60's British government created a "new" way of destroying culture and promoting business in music with one purpose : Money. That is the beginning of the end of American jazz culture and the World culture. Why? because until that moment, American jazz music was the queen of the audience with it's great quality.

  • @ShipsAreBurned Beatles on the other hand were particularly chosen by the brit business-marketing team to promote the new era.The mediocre era of brit pop music played by visually cute gay-ish guys, that have horrible instrumental skills and no class. How many of the same brit-model bands have been launched until the present day?How many of them were knighted by the queen for earning billions to the british banks? countless. That is how they killed American jazz.Brilliant.Did mr.Evans like that?

  • @ShipsAreBurned About "sir" Paul McCartney...Very talented guy with no deep knowledge in music that was used to serve the queen in the worse possible plan...To destroy individualism, creativity and quality and make money. The sad part is he is good. But not as near as good as Bill Evans.

  • How can anyone possibly dislike this?

  • I end up watching this clip at least once a month... it stirs my soul. You don't need the words because they are there in every note he plays. It describes how I feel about the man I love.

  • I think you guys might benefit from reading the autobiography of Bill Evans - How My Heart Sings by Peter Pettinger...A great read with lots of information, photo's, discography, etc.

And some would know after reading it, that it isn't Scott LaFaro on bass in this video!

Check out the Chuck Israels composer arranger musician website.

  • WOW!

  • good

  • I've never heard a more sensitive or intelligent rendering of this classic.

  • If I may borrow what somewone once said to J S Bach: 'You're either an angle from heaven or you're Bill Evans'. Gorgeous.

  • modern day chopin!

  • one of the greatest pianists of every time

  • Is it true that he died young?

  • @jwsf941 From what I've read, he struggled with substance abuse for years leading up to his death. His body simply gave out.

  • @jwsf941 wikipedia says he was 51 when he died, you decide if thats young or not

  • @roquefort88888 :

I don't always laugh at the "xx unlikers are blablabla"

    But yours is just epic.

  • @roquefort88888 Best YouTube comment ever!

  • test

  • i find jazz to be an acquired taste and not everyone's cup of tea

  • 43 dislikes? Really?

  • ps, when is this from? what decade or year?

  • This is the first jazz song i've ever managed to get through to the end. Don't mean i like jazz or nothing now, but i like this one.

  • Tiring to read some people wondering why others don't like this or that music ... let people dislike and concentrate on why you like.

And for the same, don't consider this message as interesting haha.

  • True Genius. That's the thing: Someone touched by genius does not work, but rather plays

  • i hate to tell ya Jane.... but that's Scotty lafaro, not Chuck Israel

  • @crustore i hate to tell ya but that's DEFINATELY chuck israels. I took a jazz class from him.

  • @crustore No, it really is Chuck Israels, for two reasons. First, it's Chuck Israels' face. Second, it's not Scotty Lafaro's face. So unless the two of them did a face transplant...

  • you guys are right, it is Chuck Israels. i should have know that too, my younger brother is named after Scotty Lafaro... you'd think i'd know what he looked like.

  • Gah! Look at how he plays. The man is a saint.

  • From his music I can tell that Bill Evans is 100% real man.

  • I wouldn't expect rednecks to like this. Ain't "gittars" their forte?

  • Awesome! TY jane for posting.

  • look the way he plays with all the right fingerings, he must have had a tough time with being sooo right..... and now we know that he was a heroin addict...but none the less he could play !!

  • It may be Larry Bunker on drums but bass player is definitely Scott. Knew Chuck

Israel rather well, even brought him a bass from Czechoslovakia.

  • Nobody but nobody ends a song as pretty as Bill Evans..... Nobody!

    Bill Evans fan......

  • This sound is so... cool. It gives me a sense of refinement.

  • There is a reason why this style of tones will last forever no matter what the so caled

    modern world is listening to!

  • damn, that's so good.

  • @roquefort88888 haheuaheauehauehauehauehauehaeuaheuahuahuhuaehaueha couldn´t comment better my friend...

  • That ending is sooooo beautiful

  • すばらしく、心が落ち着きます。それにつきます。

  • A majority prefer mainstream music, however I will never be one of them :)

  • A beautiful masterpiece played my masters. Great to see you here Chuck Israels. Great bass tone and playing man!

  • Many thanks for your kind sentiments. Please do check out the orchestra videos on YouTube. The two performances that are posted are based on a tune of Bill's and on the way Bill played monk's 'Round Midnight. I believe that those who appreciate the qualities in our trio music will be rewarded by listening to the expanded versions. Nothing will bring Bill back, but the principles of his music inform whatever I do.

  • My heart is indeed very foolish, melting while listening to this.

  • @roquefort88888 I love this comment waaay too much. I think about it randomly every now and then and smile :P

  • im 17, and honestly i feel privileged to be able to understand this type of music, for when most kids my age listen to this, they think its old, or just rubbish, but when i hear it, i hear all the chord changes, the subtleties in note choice, and the feel that bill puts into his playing. How sad it is that most of the world doesnt understand the greatest form of human expression in the world.

  • @paisteguy799 Well you you differ from the rest..it's not a curse much it's a gift..another language but use it to your advantage.

  • Sorry for my English.. Bill Evans .... the biggest pianist who has given the jazz. The Debussy of the jazz ... an authentic genius

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Makes me ache to hear Evans play. He was truly a genius.

  • Thank you Bill....what ever you are ;)....

  • This is one of the most brilliant & moving and almost heartbreaking takes ever. He holds back more than most other pianists give..

  • great upload JANE8948.MY THIRD COMMENT TO DATE.over 1,339,896 views says everything. top draw to you.my hero too.

  • @roquefort88888 that's so funny! :)

  • what think about bill when he play? is a mystery, thank you mister bill ...

  • is he sleeping?

  • Nice music to finish a day.

  • A truly amazing rendition

  • I thank God for the wonderful sound of the piano, and the talented musicians that play them like Bill Evans. What a great instrument.

  • I would sell a kidney to play this good

  • @laulinde Fuck that I'd give a leg!

  • @laulinde I love how ironic that statement is, considering Evans destroyed his by taking smack.

  • I dont like this music particullary

  • @hirgons Then don't post

  • @hirgons Then don't post. People obviously really care for this.

  • @jazzbox111 : did I ever say that ? coms are made to say something about the current video, I am sorry to not like what you like, you donkey obsessed

  • @hirgons And Bill Evans' fans particularly don't like you :)

  • @bloodskid, but I'm not talking about anything 100% human, I'm just fucking saying that I don't like this piece, what is the problem with sharing our thougts about art

  • Usual the only folks that could/would dislike this music are ones who have to have a raping thug african for a hero.

  • The naritive is sublime

  • genius period.

  • lo mas grande!

  • solo se puede escuchar con el corazon.

  • Lo mas grande que ha dado el jazz, solo se escucha con el corazon.

  • this tune is so great. try listening to it while driving in the rain.

  • @jacktala1 solo se puede escuchar con el corazon

  • One of the true greats...unfortunately lost him to drugs...sad but he left a great legacy of recordings and collaborations.

  • Check out - Chuck Israels Orchestra for expanded versions of Bill's music

  • @cisraels - you must be very proud to be part of this masterpiece - tell us about the making of it - even tho no trumpet it belongs on Kind of Blue -
