As far as Nine Inch Nails, Trent's a lot more varied than most of the laity realize. I really think they'd be able to pull it off. Not sure you'd get Monica Bellucci on TV, though ;).
Rip Torn is the obvious choice for Wednesday, since he is where Gaiman got his characterization-- especially the Not-A-Smile.
Vin Diesel was a dramatic actor before he went on to action movies. He's best known for stuff like xXx, Fast and the Furious, and of course Riddick, but he's actually an excellent, versatile actor. I think he'd do an excellent job as Shadow.
Looked cool and all but a few things I picked up on, a) Vin Diesel is a decent enough actor but if he was in american gods I would be pissed off by the major miscasting. b) Nine Inch Nails for the music? I like them and all but American Gods does not scream out for their style of music in my mind. c) I wouldn't focus on the coin tricks in the opening I would focus on the fact he is in jail with him doing the tricks in his cell or something but I can see why you couldn't do that
Yeah, my original concept was to shoot the coin tricks in a shadowy hallway, (while he is waiting to go in and get the news about his wife) and have the shadows morph subtly into god/animal silhouettes as the sequence progresses. Shifted to the storm-in-the-coin idea due to lack of time and a good location to shoot the scene.
Wonderfully done!!! I love how you made Guillermo Del Toro the director. He would be perfect for a film adaptation of American Gods.
However, I'd cast Daniel Day Lewis or Gary Oldlman as Mr. Wednesday. Vin Diesel would NOT work for Shadow. They're both big and kinda quite, but Vin is to much of an action star. You'd need someone with a huge amount of depth to play shadow. He'd have to be able to act with actions and his eyes, not his words.
Dwayne The Rock Johnson would be perfect for Shadow. Ian McKellen as Wednsday. Danny DeVito as Anansi. Peter O'Toole as Hinzelman. Gil Birmingham as Whiskey Jack. Mo'Nique as Easter. Maggie Gyllenhaal as Laura.
Ok, the Rock? I don't think he can quite pull of the strong silent he is more of a action guy. Also Anansi is african, black and has a carabean accent so I would cast Lenny Henry he is friends with Neil and has played the part before on radio and done the entire cast of Anansi boys on CD although I admit he may be a little large for the role.
@TheLordOfNorway Danny de Vito as Anansi? I'd put Morgan Freeman, instead. While reading the book, I couldn't help picturing myself Anansi as Morgan Freeman. Hinzelmann played by Peter O'Toole, on the other hand, a very good pick.
Amazingly well done, when it gets made into a movie they should use your opening, however i think Dwayne "the rock" Johnson would be better for the role of Shadow, and maybe Billy Connelly for Wednesday
hehe... I knew whatever casting I picked would be controversial to someone. I actually think Vin Diesel is an excellent actor who got pigeonholed based on his looks.
Kristoffer joner should play Low Key

Vin Diesel? Shitty actor and wrong looks. I've allways pictured Shadow as someone like Lincoln Burrows in Prison Break

Who do you think would make the best Mad Sweeny.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone here when reading the book thought of Vin Diesel as the perfect Shadow. Good to know I'm not the only one lol.

Rade Serbedzija as Mr. Wednesday.

that's odd, I imagined Vin Diesel as Shadow when I read it too!
Mind you, in my fantasy casting scenario I have Wednesday being played by Donald Sutherland.

@woodgatejack I had Vin Diesel too lol. But for Wednesday i had Jeff Bridges or Liam Neeson.

Directed by: Chrisopher Nolan.
