  • 1 dislike? Who has the audacity ?

  • Here's something to think about; he called every play. He had the playbook in his head, memorized. No QB today has every play memorized. If Unitas played today, he might have an audible for every play in the playbook. In my opinion, the QB list is right: Unitas is second only to Joe Montana, and it's an extremely close second.

  • Haha i wish i had this guy as a grandfather or something.. He seems so knowledgeable about sports and describes everything very well

  • Ball So Hard University

  • Brees is getting close to the Johnny U record. But Johnny Unitas Is still one of the greatest

  • on every single one of these videos all i see is people bitching about the list..

  • Lol at everyone talking crap about Brady. Just look at the story--- there are sooooo many parallels between the two. Just stop and enjoy the highlights of the man who created the QB position.

  • @VikeFan284296

He didn't "create" the QB position. There were great QB's before him.

  • @AllPro777 Well obviously there were some (Sammy Baugh's the big one) but he made it the way we see it today. Like the video said and anyone who knows the history of pro football knows, he created the Two Minute Drill in the 1958 Championship and, in my opinion, that's what sets the good quarterbacks from the greats.

  • @VikeFan284296

The only thing I disagree with is the idea that he "created" the two-minute drill. QB's had been running last minute comebacks before Unitas was even born. I respect the amount of praise he's given because he was such a great player, but the truth is that everything Unitas did was done by other players before him at other times. The only difference is that Unitas did it better than those guys, and a young Unitas could suit up and play in this era right now and be an All-Pro.

  • @AllPro777 Yeah I know what you're saying. No matter what we agree or disagree on, there's too much Brady-bashing on this comment board when him and Unitas had a lot of similarities in their careers. That's what I meant with my first comment.

  • 1:16 there is were you get the Baltimorean attitude. No one "belongs to you," you don't own anyone. You are there host. That is it.

  • Drew Brees about to break his record of a TD in every consecutive game. Johnny U-47 Drew Brees- I believe 45

  • He is the GOAT hands down. Johnny U made the position what it is today. He changed it completely. Most of yall wont say so because you never seen him play!

  • @jmaal2345 My wife got me one of the last autographs he ever gave out when he was in the hospital and she was his nurse. Mr. Unitas asked her who is this for, and she said, Well my boyfriend says you're the greatest player of all time and not to come back without your autograph. It is still haning in my bedroom today.

  • fuck you chuck 2:27

  • loving the color highlights

  • i hope drew brees doesnt break his record

  • This guy defined the position like they said, brady is a douche bag

  • Johnny Unitas made the Quarterback position what it is today, it is mind-bottling to think he threw at least one touchdown pass in 47 straight games. Brees is the only guy that has come close. Brady, Manning, Marino, Moon, Fouts, none of these guys even came close

  • @tarkthashark Are you making a talladega nights reference or do you actually think "mind bottling" is a word?

  • @FeebleNosemanny a little bit of both

  • Does anyone realize Warren Moon isn't on this list at all? He threw for more yards than Marino.

  • @therealmcnulty lol... even joe namath is in here...

  • @therealmcnulty Warren Moon did not throw more yards than Marino. Not even close

  • @pbskids4000 because he spent 6 years in the CFL. When you combine those 6 years with his NFL years, he has over 70,000 yards.

  • What is the music used at the beginning of this video?

  • Tom brady couldnt play at the time unitas did. They didnt have all those rules to protect quaterbacks then.

  • @1986Masterofpuppets True..."Omg He hit me ref!" "Stfu pretty boy and get the fuck up or sit down on the bench"

  • a shame that both dimaggio's and unitas' records were broken (unitas broken by brees i believe)

  • @FFScooterr Unitas' record was broken but Dimaggio's still stands strongly.

  • @amaniswatchingyou are you retarded? Brees is still 4 games short of tying Unitas' streak...

  • Unitas elevated the QB position like no other before him, and to more of a degree than others after him. Unitas is basically responsible for making the QB position the centerpiece of a modern offense

  • @darthgamer90210 Tom Brady already looks gay

  • @darthgamer90210 no one could make tom brady look gay.

  • @zzmikeszz eli manning can

  • @darthgamer90210 you say that behind a computer.. ur faggit you probably can't place holder for a kicker...

  • 0:25 is my favorite NFL Films music. Makes Unitas seem heroic.

  • YES! Tom Brady gets a mention!!!

  • Idk if i can be content with him being higher than manning though

  • Brady at #21.. Unitas at #6.. I think Unitas was great, but that's a disgrace

  • @welshpatriotpenguin It's not a disgrace at all. In fact, I believe Brady was overrated in this list, considering this was before the 2010 season. Why is this so horrible?

  • @DannySportsTalk Because this list was made for the greatest players of ALL time, not just at their position. I don't think any NFL fan who is asked 'who are the top QB's of all time' would respond with 'Montana, Manning, Unitus' and leave out Brady... Think about the gap, number 21 and number 6 on this list

  • @welshpatriotpenguin Brady was in the top 6 for QBs on this list, though (Imo he should have been ahead of Otto Graham). So really it's not a huge shame, plus lists like this are largely subjective. How the hell are you suppose to compare a DT to a QB?

  • @DannySportsTalk As of the airing, the one of the top I think Brady should have ahead was Favre. Graham got 7 freaking championships and went to the title game 10 years in a row.

  • @DannySportsTalk sorry i might have interpreted this wrong but otto graham was amazing and a better QB than tom brady without a doubt

  • @richiesrockroundup Otto was a great QB. I just think Tom has played consistent, has had the longevity to earn his spot. You can certainly make a case for Otto too, though.

  • @DannySportsTalk Automatic Otto, set the standard for all quarterbacks in terms of winning..There was Graham then there was Unitas then there was Montana and now Brady..

  • @801liveable Graham was a great QB, don't get me wrong. Again, he was one of those guys who put up great numbers in a tough era for passing. I wish I could really watch some real time game film on him, though. That way I would be able to rate him better.

  • @DannySportsTalk Back in 1979 I was Municipal Stadium Cleveland-Browns/Dolphins..About 80,0000 there..I was sitting next to my step-father..I turned to my right and saw this guy in brown pants wearing a wrinkled blue windbreaker sitting on a cement step in the aisle...It was Otto Graham..His hand was up to the side of his head as he intently watched the game..My step dad looked at him and said that is the man..I got goose-bumps..I am a big Cleveland Browns fan..So I'm biased...

  • @DannySportsTalk Whatever above OTTO really they did not have all the rules to protect a QB Brady cant take a hit . Also Matt Castle did the same thing when Brady was hurt the best line in the game is what Brady has if you team doesnt fall off with out you then it the team more then you. And for the Super Bowls Say thank you to the Kicker For Me

  • @Cedycom

Best line in the game? I don't know about that.

  • @Cedycom Matt "Castle" did the same thing when Brady was hurt? Oh that's right, he went 10-5 but failed to lead the Patriots to the playoffs. And what did Earl Morrall do in 1968 when he took over for an injured Unitas? He went 13-1, won MVP and led the Colts to the super bowl.

"If your team doesn't fall off without you, then it's the team more than you." You said. I guess that means Unitas was just a "system QB" then and was just a product of his team. Dumbass.

  • @777zippy777 To be fair, Earl Morrall was arguably the best backup QB of all time.

  • @DannySportsTalk Not quite. I'd say Steve Young, George Blanca, Jim Plunkett and Steve DeBerg were all better QBs than Morrall to name a few. And now that Cassel is starring with KC, I'd put his name up there too.

  • @DannySportsTalk I just use that little nugget to shut up the Brady-haters.

  • @DannySportsTalk lol.. What Brady has done before 2010 outweighs GREATLY what he did during 2010 and this 2011 season.. He passed for 5k yards in 2011.. woahh.. he had like 36 TD and 4 INT.. He was a hall of famer before the MVP in 2010.. and he won't get MVP this year unless it's a 3-way tie.. He won 3 Super Bowls before 2010 and he had a 50 TD season in 2007.. and made it to the SB in 2007.. He didn't in 2010

  • @wangtangkiki I'm not denying he was a Hall of Famer before 2010, I was just pointing out this was before two really great years on his legacy. He didn't "win" 3 Super Bowls either, football is a team sport. Brady should be judged based on his individual play, not on how his team preforms.

  • @DannySportsTalk he's going to the superbowl again .....

  • @seb2455 No he isn't... He had a bad game. The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl, not Tom Brady. How hard is it grasp that football is a team sport? I don't feel like debating the same regurgitated bullshit again, so have a good one.

  • @DannySportsTalk

    FACT:

The Patriots don't male it to the super bowl without Brady.

How hard is it to grasp that the QB position is by far the most important???

  • @QBDogKiller I don't disagree with that. I just hate when people ignore everything that ever happens in a game and they just ignorantly go "HERPPPP DA QB MAED DA GAME DA WIN GUI". Goes for anybody really, and frankly I'm sick of it.

  • @DannySportsTalk

It's true, all the story lines surrounding this upcoming super bowl is "Bray will tie Montana if he wins/will be considered G.O.A.T" and "Eli will have more rings than his brother if he wins".

It's sad the other 52 players on each team are almost anonymous.

  • @QBDogKiller stupid statement, every position is just as important because each position relies on the other to do its job, if the quarterback has an o line that never blocks, good luck to him making ANY plays, how would a quarterback make any passes if his receivers didnt run their routes and out smart the cornerbacks? how would a running back get any yards if the lead blockers didnt do their jobs and the lead blocker sucked? the o line actually impacts the performance of an offense the most

  • @Qweeftastic i meant and if the offensive line sucked and didnt make any holes as well*, anybody who says the quarterback is "by far" the most important position doesnt know that much about football, ever heard of a DEFENSE? the phase of the team that is supposed to not let the other team score? thats pretty important isnt it? what about the middle linebacker, the captain of the defense?

  • @Qweeftastic

Thanks for stating the politically correct statement that coaches tell you in pee-wee football.

-That counts as a dumb-shit statement.

If every position is "just as important", why is it then that on average, a QB will make more money than a safety???

    You know why?

Because a QB will impact the game much more than a safety of the same talent level.

It's sad I had to even explain that.

Guess some people don't understand real world logic.

  • @QBDogKiller every play starts with the line, any pro quarterback will tell u that the line is one the most important part of an offense, why do u think the weak side offensive tackle is the second most payed player on the team? and u are not even accounting for defense dumbass, what does the quarterback do when the offense isnt on the field? u are also assuming that offenses are more important than defenses, why do u think the on the top 100 players of all time, the top three are NOT qbs?

  • @Qweeftastic

Ok dipshit, I guess logic doesn't apply to you.

Just remember there's a reason QBs (Brady, Brees, Rodgers), Left-Tackles (Joe Thomas, Jake Long) and Pass-Rushers (Dwight Freeney, Julius Peppers, Jared Allen) make more money than Centers, Guards and Safeties.

I guess you know more than NFL general managers since you think "every position is equal". LMAO

When you finish playing pop-warner, you'll understand that.

  • @welshpatriotpenguin It is not a disgrace. I'm not a football scholar or anything but think of it like this, Everything Brady has done, Unitas did the equivalent before him, under much different and harsher conditions. Unitas stands as THE most influential footballer of all time.

Without Unitas, Brady is a plumber or a cement mixer with a wife and 4 kids struggling through the GFC. Instead, he's the leagues best QB, married to the world's most successful supermodel ever.

  • @aznfratboy you gotta admit that's kinda unfair to say 'without Unitus Brady would be...' and list another random job. Hell, without Unitus Joe Montana might have been a 3rd string QB, or maybe just a ballet dancer for all I know, so don't do that, please. I never said Unitus was a bad QB, I in fact said the complete opposite. I'm saying Brady deserves a higher spot in this list, if Unitus got a number 6 and Brady got a 21.

  • @welshpatriotpenguin learn some fucking respect...JU paved the way for TB...Unitas should be #1, #6 is a disgrace.

  • @umadbro201182 U mad bro? Plus, I did respect Unitus...

  • @welshpatriotpenguin It sounds like you never saw Unitas play. Unitas was a genius with a football. He redefined the position of Quarterback in the NFL. Maybe one day Brady will be #7, maybe #1 if he redefines the position. Not today.

  • @welshpatriotpenguin QBs ahead of Brady were Favre(barely), Graham, Unitas, Manning, and Montana.

So yeah he's in good company.

  • @welshpatriotpenguin You can't compare the two QBs like they are on the same field, the game has changed too much between then and now. You have to look at how great they were when they played and Johnny U played in an era just coming off of Slingin Slammy Baugh and the Idea that the forward pass was becoming a primary offensive weapon. Brady is playing "In the era of QB"

  • @welshpatriotpenguin You have to consider the changes in the rules make brady's numbers look so much better than Johnny U's.

  • @welshpatriotpenguin Let Tom finish his career, then we can judge his place in history.

  • does anybody know the name of the song playing at the 30 second mark?

  • I don't know about anyone else but I am from Baltimore and was a huge Colt fan back in the 70's... but since they left I don't see them as having anything to do with Baltimore anymore. I don't see why everyone else does. A team and a city define one another in my opinion. I don't want old Browns players showing up in Baltimore and I don't want old Colt players showing up in Indianapolis.

  • @samhain1967 I feel you man, our family has been Colt fans since the Baltimore days, and when i found out they had left their city for Indy, I was pissed, but hey, I still love them

  • chrishowers....the rules today its easy...if johnny played with defenseless reciever, and no touching the reciever after the first 5 yrds, he would have thrown a td pass in every game he played.....THEYCALLED HIM THE GOLDEN ARM! and he invented the 2-minute drill.....and.....toughest QB EVER

  • @prirkyl1279 Truth. You could literally sit on top of receivers if they fell, I'm not kidding. While I respect the hell out of Brees, you simply cannot say "Oh this is more impressive".

  • @DannySportsTalk I agree, and I guarantee that if Brees had had his nose shattered by Doug Atkins, he would go to the locker room and get x-rayed, he wouldn't do what John did, and pack mud up his nose to stop the bleeding, and then throw a game winning touchdown pass

  • Drew Brees will break that record next season 47 consecutive games with a tochdown pass..... GO SAINTS!!!!!

  • People always look at QB rating to see who isthe better QB Unitas played in a different time. He had a rating right around 79.0 that's like having a QB rating of 120.0 today.

  • @Fanatic2020

Back then you were allowed to hound receivers far more, so you had far more interceptions and missed attempts. That's the main thing that lowered the ranking of QBs back then. Nowadays you get a flag for barely touching a receiver or QB.

  • @dumuh actually it's mainly lineman blocking rules that allow qb to gain their ratings today

And please, don't be one of those faggots who bitch about how the "nfl is turning into two hand touch football"

  • Comment removed

  • @btuc401 No, that really doesn't have another to do with it, just the rules.

  • @Fanatic2020 Dude he is right, the NFL is catering to it's star players by making stupid rules, while some are fine like no helmet to helmet, and no hitting receivers after 5 yards, some are just plain stupid, like no hitting quarterbacks in the legs, and no roughing the passer, back then, players were way tougher than today, and Unitas showed that

  • @TheAndrewklingerman No, he isn't and no they aren't.

Being a star doesn't mean anything, you get penalized all the same.

Roughing the passer is stupid?.....you have got to be kidding me.....to be fair it is a rule that is very easy to go over board on, but it definitely helps more than it hurts.

The rules show nothing about the players, the league makes them, they are just as tough as they were in Unitas' time.

  • So weird so the place he died (Kernan physical therapy) is where i get my sports physicals. The person working there was like "that's where Unitas died" pointing to a spot and i was like... wow......... True Baltimore Hero.

  • Unitas > Any Quarterback Ive ever seen. He was very small for a quarterback (6 foot 1, 194) and he took some vicious hits in his day. He just got up and dusted himself off for the next play. He didn't care about gaudy numbers or any of that shit. All he cared about is whether his team won, and that's why I respect him. One of my all-time favorite players and one incredible quarterback.

  • @jmk8646 He did put up insane numbers though. Look at his numbers compared to the other QBs of his time.

  • whhhaaaa peyton's not even the best colt of all time that means he's not even the best player of................OH.......

  • He created what we now know as the quarterback, meaning the methods quarterbacks use today were created by him. He is the Davinci of quarterbacks

  • he died?

  • @lilmoe102 He died a while ago broham.

  • @DannySportsTalk it was like '03 right? i remember hearing about it while on a school bus. i was in like 6th or 7th grade.

  • @evillmonky It was in 2002, so yeah pretty damn close.

  • @lilmoe102 I'm thinking you should die for not knowing that...

  • @TheAndrewklingerman I think you should die for no reason because you don't want to say that to my fuckin face little bitch

  • I think that Unitas is neck and neck with Montana for the best ever. Montana played in a different era with more pass friendly rules and better receivers than Unitas did.

  • ...and...Unitas didn't play in a dome...no temp.controlled environment...he had to face...rain...wind...snow...keep that in mind...

  • GREAT QB...a real football player!!!

  • Johnny U, my Dad's favorite player.

  • johnny u!!

  • WHat is that epic song at 3:40 ??? Oh my gosh! It just summed up Johnny U's Career :')

  • great fundamental player

  • drew brees currently has thrown a touchdown pass in 44 straight games WOW 3 more games to go

  • @patriotsmakemesick You have got to factor in the era they were in. Plus back then they NEVER EVER threw at the Goal line, and that is a factor in keeping Drew Brees's streak. Brees is still an amazing player though.

  • @DannySportsTalk oh definatley...but records were made to be broken... and johnny unitas would of liked to see his own record beaten by such a great quarterback

  • @DannySportsTalk Good call. The rule changes in the recent years have made it easier to throw the ball....you'd have to calculate it like inflation! hahaha

  • @patriotsmakemesick it's at 34.

  • @milo2225 oh

  • @patriotsmakemesick Eh... I love Brees, but i think the streak is at 35, one more to tie Favre.

  • @patriotsmakemesick I thought it was strange that no one had mentioned the streak on the NFL shows if he was that close. Apparently, playoff games do not count for the purpose of streaks so we are looking at Week 4 of next season to tie Unitas and Week 5 to set the mark. If someone is going to do it, Brees would be a good one to break the record. I like him as a human being from what I have seen in interviews and the like.

  • @patriotsmakemesick His streak is at 38 right now Dec 2 2011. If he was to break the record it would occur in week five of the 2012 season. And Johnny U will always be the greatest QB in B-more, and the toughest QB in the history of the game...PERIOD!

  • @petis1976 oh yeah Johnny U. will always be the greatest EVER. no contest

  • @patriotsmakemesick playoffs dont count he has 40 he needs 8 more to break it and if he does he is the best qb in the league and a slam dunk 1st ballot HOFer even though he already is one

  • just because you're the creator of something doesnt mean you're the best at it. you started it. perfected it to the best of your ability then the ppl after you take what you did and will probably make it better.

  • @flchamp1 But, taking the game's evolution into account, who has really done it better?

  • @MikeDiastavrone3 im the guy that feels everything gets better as time goes on.

  • @flchamp1 While I certainly agree that being first does not automatically mean that they were the best, I just don't think your theory that everything gets better as time goes on does not hold up with even the very basic study of history. Things come and go in cycles, hills and valleys, and not an ever increasing straight line.

  • @illmadeknight players/athletes, movies, actors are getting much better as time goes on. NOT ALL but it gets better. look at mixed martial arts in the early 90s compared to now. fighters now are WAY more advanced in fighting then back then.

  • @flchamp1 Hard to compare the NFL to MMA when the NFL has been around for over 80 years versus a decade for MMA. Football is different now, but I don't know if I would say better just because it is newer. There are more points and yards now, but that has been artificially tweeked by the rules being written to get more points. I say Unitas could play in today's NFL and still be a Hall of Fame QB so I don't think that now is better than the past.

  • @illmadeknight you're speaking out of opinion not fact. i myself am speaking out of opinion aswell. im saying the nfl is better talent wise. not because its newer. once again just an opinion. we have no proof if any of those guys would compete as good as they were back then. vice versa.

  • @illmadeknight Yeah you cant touch receivers now, you can't breathe on the QB, Helmet to helmet, headslap & horse collar tackles etc have been legislated out of the game. It was a lot tougher to play offense back then. and now the season is 4 games longer... Modern offenses stats are padded greatly. I know beyond doubt that the greats of old would be great now. I think that there should be two record books one for the 12 game season and one for the 16 game season.
