  • I know this is very difficult to get four guys to play this music. Very good attempt, but needs work --- the drummer sounds like he doesn't listen to Bruford much.

  • Grab the audio from this tune at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • Only holdsworth is holdsworth so I think that comment is unfair but the whole thing does have a stiffness to it I can't explain. Nothing is "wrong" with the way it's played but I don't feel a sense of groove as a whole. It's a little vanilla.

  • @donbosleymusic I agree - it doesn't swing. It's competent, well-executed, but a bit soulless.

  • thanks for the comments. yeah i do wish we had more time to drill it into our heads and play it without charts etc. it was fun anyways ;)

  • I love the robot dance in the 2:34, pretty darn hilerious

  • good original approach. bassist needs to listen harder in the middle.. Doesn't bother me too bad, the spirit is there... JUST Listen more!!

Here's a fun experiment to try, take a tambourine and try to straighten out the beat, accents on 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, (thinking about the 19/8 ) and then keep it going, but don't force the accents back to fit the above, just keep the pattern going and try to keep accents on every 4th "8th" note. Get my meaning? It's really hard and takes immense concentration.

  • nothing like holdsworth

  • Hahahahaha, so funny the drummer playing and "one, two, three, four, five, six seven, one, two, three, four, five, sis, seven...".

This sing is fucking hard to cover, nice try, practice more before you wanna playing live, you all have to feel the rhythm inside....GOOD JOB

  • Great stuff guys. Do you play live in the Dundee area - f so when /where is your next gig?

  • Very nice job!

  • Two thumbs up

  • great job guys

  • christ!!! the keys starts off like a super nintendo and then jools holland pops up at 2.16!!! I absolutely love this....more than royal game soup or stealing copper for smelting.

  • @kirk193 thanks for commenting on the nintendo bit...i prefer that to jools holland anyday....more than covent garden soup or electrocuting chickens for consumption at your local KFC..

  • Not a bad job guys. BTW what drums and cymbals were you using? Are they the same as Brufords? Thanks for your time.

  • That's an excellent cover of a very tough track, well done!!

  • Hey, at least it's not "Brown Eyed Girl". Y'all have guts to try a Bruford track and I think you pulled it off well. Well done. 5G next. I expect it before xmas. Great job.

  • wow guys great job on a great song i wasnt expecting holdsworth so dont worry your version made me haPPY as it was played from the heart and IT REMINDED ME OF A TIME WHEN I 1ST GOT INTRODUCED TO THIS MUSIC CIRCA 1978 thanks again great *****

  • It took you for two days to model your thoughts, great. I looked through the comments and noticed that youre constantly talking back. Now I can see the diagnosis. Cant learn, no charisma - keep talking back. Lucks.

  • it can take me as long as i want to reply and 'model' my thoughts but unlike a lot of people, i have a life outside of youtube. you actually counted the days for me to reply to this? thats pretty sad. youre welcome to look through every single comment for every single video....

  • ...the fact is you didnt understand a word i said in my reply - was it 1 day ago now? for you to say that we are unable to learn and having no individuality is absolutely and totally unfair of you. let me guess - YOU have charisma right?

  • I see a pattern here, I've watched the videos of some of the guys posting negative comments and to be honest i'm very surprised they have the nerve to comment at all as most of what I have seen has been not good at all! If you are going to make insulting comments at least have the chops to back it up!!!

  • the drummer makes the same crappy breaks all over the place. it really pisses off after first half minute of listening. hate karaoke anyway!

  • karaoke? i had no idea we were miming. as far as i can remember my keyboards were plugged in ;)

  • I must admit thats really great that you are listening to a right music. What I meant by karaoke its when somebody who cant decently compose or perform trying to copy somebody elses stuff having no charisma or individuality. If you dont wanna get bad comments you better delete the video leaving the space for real Bruford. Find yourselves and good luck.

  • so what youre trying to say is we have to remove all our cover versions and leave it to the original artist to post their vids on youtube? you of ALL people should realise we all learn by covering great tunes like this..and we are only more than happy to share it with everyone. what people who regularly scour youtube just waiting to write bad comment should learn is that covers will never ever sound like the original and should not expect to hear - in this case - bruford...

  • ...and if you dig a bit deeper, you'll notice that we do write our own material. we're not too bothered about bad comments. theyr'e usually pretty unfounded. this is our version. period! bruford has his version anyway on youtube and people can watch that anytime if they dont like ours ;). at the end of the day, any music we like to listen to is the right music..whether its rock/pop/country/rap or RnB. thanks !

  • I'm sorry, this must be the most terrible version of this great son I've ever heard...

    The drummer is ...READING???

Come on...are you joking? Putting that stuff on Youtube?

Are you ever gonna get a gig after this?

Sorry to be so honest, but I love this song and I can play it with my eyes shut and my hands tied...this is just embarrasing...

    Better luck next time!

  • we'd love to see / hear your version of this. remember to shut your eyes and tie your hands ;)

  • interesting tempo (slower); never heard a cover of this song measured like this

  • very nice work!!!

  • The drummer's doing fine. o_o

Not exactly like Bruford, but he's got the timing down on pat! And the feel's good.

You don't have to play exactly like Bruford to make the song work.

  • Great, but if you were going to go through all that trouble you should have found a decent sounding keyboard patch. Mark Witherspoon is fucking awesome! 1:46

Overall outstanding! How could it not be? 20 stars!

  • as a matter of fact i did manage to program a keyboard patch that was a lot closer than the one i had in this video..a bit too late though. its all good. yes i have to agree mark is a great drummer.

  • sorry about another negative comment, dkelley9661, but the drummer just doesn't get it, anyone else can correct me if i'm wrong, what is he looking at anyway? if it's music, it's not the music to the song

  • bloody good! 5 stars

  • You people with the negative comments; just stop! If you can't do as well or better, any damn fool can whine about that which they know nothing about, it took a lot of effort to do this cover, and it's done well and faithfully. Not exactly, but well and faithfully. Please; please! shut up!

  • the drums are tuned too low. you gotta tune them like Bill's, as high as they go

  • Why?

Becose if you gonna play his songs you MUST be perfectly like him?

    NO!!!

    Jerk!

  • Great sounding cover.

You guys must be really tight.

  • good as !!!!!! i like the carpet .

  • Nice.

  • The guitar is horrrrrrrrrrible!!!!! otherwise not a bad effort

  • the drummer needs to stop sight reading and learn this song for the feel. he's loseing the flow every time he looks over

  • A good version of what is in fact a deceptively difficult song to execute!

    Good job!

  • man that was great! I live and breathe the time in my youth when this was new. what a blast!

  • ...This isn't AC/DC...

  • no shit, how did you figured it out?

  • LMAO, I dunno! It just sort of...Came to me

  • pretty damn close

  • Drummer is too into the score music. He needs to be more creative. Thats my opinion.

  • People read charts all the time so that isn't an indication of anything. What should a drummer do in music like this? There is no limit. My rating of a 6 really isn't that bad considering Bruford is the only one that gets a 10 regardless of who is playing. What makes the song magical is how Bill Bruford syncopates and his phrasing (Yes and the other talent accompaning him). It's really not a hard song/arrangment to play but what is hard is what Bill plays.

  • Well I listened to some of your renditions of Bruford stuff and I think the difference between your playing and that of the people here is that you go for the perfect copy and they go for the fun of the music.

  • go jondi!

  • I didn't like the drummers version of this classic. He played it very safe through the whole tune and played fills at the end of ever phrase. I give the drummer a "6" out of ten. Guitarist did a good job at playing the Holdsworth licks. The Bassist did a SAFE job at playing Jeff's parts and could have had a little more "fire" in his playing but he did a good job over all.

  • Can't you see him reading it? Logic should then tell you that he hasn't been playing it with them that long. You say he plays fills at the end of every phrase, if you would care to listen until the B section, then he keeps a solid beat going. May I ask exactly what you want a drummer to do in music like this? Perhaps he could have arranged herds of warthogs to roll across his kit in perfect time with the band. Maybe he should have played the whole thing with his feet while having tea and cakes.

  • you guys are good gave you a 5 :^D

  • totally sweet man. sounds great!
