I've seen the splash of brandy variation on the Champagne Cocktail a few times, but Haven't checked to see when it first came into the "lexicon". I see this as a bastardized variation since this is a great drink without it, and the brandy mostly is just going to boost the alcohol content, which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Today, some bartenders, like myself, are taught to add 1/4 oz. of brandy (by default) or whiskey to their champagne cocktails. When did this alteration to the original version of the Champagne Cocktail start?

Right tip the water...No proper way to open & serve champagne even if it comes from California... Don't point the girl...
