  • can i do that on a desire s too?

  • Sorry, but what you did is changing a launcher. Sense UI isn't just Rosie (launcher)... It's a whole system, from kernel to many stand-alone programs, modified. You have to change a whole ROM to disable Sense UI. It's not as simple as force closing launcher -_-.

  • does this work on the desire hd????

  • Just download a gingerbread launcher

  • holy shit!!! my desire nerly crashed.... and I tried this because I want to use the wiicontroller on my nes emulator but no this didn't work out ;(

  • Download from market LauncherPro or any other launcher. Next, download program "ClearDefaultHome". Open ClearDefaultHome, scroll down and click "clear defaults". Then press the home button and choose your prefered launcher.

  • dosent work on htc desire froyo help me

  • @zor1998 you can also try tapping force stop as well

  • Damn, doesn't work on HTC Desire HD (with froyo)

  • Doesn't work on Froyo ... any other ways to disable HTC Sense without having to root the phone?

  • this is the launcher app ... not nexus one stock home or standart android !!!

  • it is not warking on my HTC Desire 2.2

  • could any tell me whats the name of this app ?

  • @TheRebornx youre gay

  • you just downloaded the application called launcher applicationbefore you did this preview cuz desire doesnt come with nexus sciene pre-installed . thats nothing new.

  • When i touch that button its just go grey.... *sry for bad english

  • not as sexy as nexus one

  • for all the people that are saying this doesn't work, what u need to do is download a app that takes u back to the default home e.g. ipanda home. there are other ones like it. now when you force close it after clearing it as default, a pop up will come up aking you if u want the 'ipanda home' as default or sense UI

  • Does not work.

  • can i update the "normal"android rom?

  • i accidentaly closed sense on my hero and i was afraid that i unistaled it xD lol

  • Why would you want to do this? Nexus One owners are striving to get a Desire ROM

    !

  • any HTC desire expert here?

I have entered into "recovery" mode, and the phone is just locked.

I tried to hold the power button to do a restart, but it doesn't work.

what can i do? remove the battery?

  • buy a nexus .. lol

  • Won't work on my Desire. I folow all the steps but after clearing default and force-stopping it simply relaunches the Sense UI without asking for a default action.

  • WHY? why would you want to to such a horrible thing?

  • but it doesnt have voice input

  • All you did was change the launcher, the app suite is still Sense apps.

  • All you did was change the launcher, the app suite is still Sense apps.

  • does it work on htc incredible ??

  • does it work on the htc incredible ??

  • well they are the same exact things! lol!

  • Does not work for me?

  • @ColdingoVich same here

  • Ok, this doesn't always work. Some tips: 1. Install "home switcher" from the market, and check if there is another launcher. Only Sense ? Then it will never work. DO NOT SET DEFAULTS then, since it will delete all your accounts/twitter, settings etc etc.! Probably works with MoDaCo rooted roms, but not on current production firmwares it seems!

  • what app do u have to install to do this?

  • This didn't work for me on the HTC Incredible. Pressing the Home button starts up the HTC Sense without letting me pick anything.

  • Hi thanks for this video. Can you advise me does the Desire have a notification light for missed calls texts etc. I know the Nexus one has trackball for this option light. Thanks

  • @ryanonpiano yes it does, on the right of the htc logo on the front ;)

  • doesn't work on normal retails desire's! you must install an alternative home app - but teh default home app is not available in the market!

  • would I just be able to delete all the widgets that take up the entire screen and put my apps on instead

  • @nforspeed91

Yes you can, It is fully customisable.

  • Worked on mine, maybe its because its rooted?

  • gutted it does not work but having done it and it seems to turn of defaults? does this mean i have to factory reset?, i got up this morning and the moon was still on my phone has it fucked it up? should take down video 2 as it dont work now save people this stress, its why i would never root a phone coz i am too un lucky and would brick it 100%....

  • @androidfanuk

    trust me,

    try it.

    you ARE lucky

  • Sur htc Sence en france, cette manipulation ne fonctionne pas.

Les paramètre sont là, mais Sense se réinstalle tout seul.

Si quelqu'un a des infos, mercie de me faire signe .

  • No longer working. This was probably a pre-release desire or a very early model.

  • @tehabc - yep.. everytime I do it the phone automatically re-boots HTC sense.. spewing.

  • seems not to work anymore. Mine just goes back to Sense after clicking the "home" button...

  • It doesn't work on my desire (from sweden)

  • Does not work a new desire bought in norway. Just goes back to sense even though defaults is cleared

  • @mrpower same here, mines norwegian 2

  • Can anyone confirm that this still works on a UK HTC Desire?

  • is that a black one?

  • @supasye No it is the brown one... you can see the slight color at the top... It is a brilliant phone.

  • @supasye No it is the brown one... you can see the slight color at the top... It is a brilliant phone.

  • this doesn't actually work anymore. any other ideas?

  • @jpohotsky rely i was looking forward to doing this with mine when i get it

  • @jpohotsky give us some details. what's not working anymore ?

  • @BigBMF basically with the finalised Desire ROM they removed the original NexusOne-esque launcher completely, so when you Force Quit out of Sense UI there is no other option and sense simply reboots. i've tried finding the original launcher but to no avail...any one that i've found the icons in the 3d menu are distorted/mishapen.

  • Does the phone perform any faster when Sense is disabled?

Did anyone manage to perform this on an unlocked UK HTC Desire?

  • @ali87sa If you download launcer2.apk file you can get the same thing even better search on the market place for Helixlauncher(2) it does the same thing apart from you can add things either side of the all programs launcher.

This works on uk desire as i using it atm, also download home switcher and you can select the one you want to launch.

  • Doesn't work on my retail UK HTC Desire

  • @mobilephone2003 not wokeing on mine either have you found a way around it yet?

  • I love the trackball , the led flash strobe it's a big plus for me . Most of the time my phone it's laying around , the led strobe helps me picking up the phone every min to c if I got a miss call ect. So htc please don't completely take of the trackball on all devices.

  • I have tried this on my T-Mobile UK Desire and Sense just restarts as soon as you hit home. No option to select launcher, Sense just restarts.

  • This doesn't turn off sense completely, it just turns off the sense home screen. The rest of the OS is still skinned to sense, just look at the clock-bar. Otherwise, SICK vid!!

  • @pinke123

The remaining Sense UI parts there are widgets and skins. You can change them separately.

  • Funny, N1 trying to get HTC S U/I.

And HTC S U/I trying to get N1.

  • @meankookoo Another this is that you'll have to wait ages, to get the updates. for this phone. The Google™ Phone, get's the updates instantly.

  • great video. thanks!

  • That thing is a beast

  • Nexus or desire a realy hard Question

  • @alkat00

Uh no....an extremely easy question. The Desire is virtually identical to the Nexus one except the Nexus One can't do multi touch out of the box and the Desire can.

  • Desire sucks, why would they remove the trackball and in its place, put in an optical trackball??

Nexus One is somply better. And it doesn't come with HTC's Sense, which, I personally hate. (except on Windows Mobile)

  • @BarricadeSlade

Because one of most consistent complaints the Nexus got was how crappy the trackball felt and you can easily remove HTC Sense if you don't like it as this video shows.

If you are in the US then you are better off with the 3.5G connection on the Nexus One, but for everyone else the Desire is the better phone.

  • I am thinking of getting the desire, but the only problem is I was really looking forward to the voice dicatation thats on the nexus and I believe its not on the desire. True or no?

  • @mujjj

Apparently that is true yes. I'll tell you for certain in a couple of days when mine arrives. I liked the idea of voice dictation as well but I'm gambling on someone modding the dictation software onto the Desire.

One of the major bonuses of Android is that Google don't moderate their apps like Apple do so if you see a software feature on any Android phone that you like the look of then there is a pretty good chance it will be ported to every other Android on the market.

  • I just got mine today & I can confirm that it does not come with voice dictation but it took me all of 10 minutes to work out how to put it back on.

Can Google search and get directions from Google maps by voice now. Also got a very nice app from Babel Fish that uses the dictation coupled with the text to speech to turn your phone into a sci fi translator. Makes me want to go across to France just to mess around with it.

Having said that, the voice recognition REALLY struggles with my accent

  • @ringosis Would LOVE some more info on how this was done.

  • @ringosis

how did you get the voice dictation on the desire?

    thanks

    chris

  • because the trackball on the N1 is ugly ?

Atleast in my opinion and in loads of other peoples opnions. And Desire Sucks because ?

Shame that there will allways be shouting retards on the internet.

  • @ringosis nexus does multitouch out the box now since the update or do u think they will keep sending out nexus from the warehouse without multitouch???

  • @MajorrBison

I would assume that new phones will come with the update out of the box but even if they don't applying it yourself is about as pressing yes when you turn your phone on then waiting a few seconds.

So either way the multitouch thing doesnt matter anymore.

  • @alkat00

I take that back actually. It looks like the Nexus got a firmware update in the US to turn on multi-touch. As you are in the US you'd want to go for the Nexus One. The Desire can't do HSDPA which means your net access would be significantly slower (carriers outside the US don't use HSDPA so it only matters if you plan to use your phone a lot in the states)

  • wow looks very responsive.. when is it coming to USA?

  • @knightinmiami In about six months. This is what happened to HD2, it already old, over here ;).

  • @Superharas how long is old to you????? cos we don't have it in the usa yet, so it's not old here at least.

  • @MajorrBison It's not that old, but about six months ago, it came out in November.

  • I think the Desire is a step up just cuz it has the physical buttons instead of the soft buttons that many people has been having problems with and the fact that it comes with sense thats good too cuz this way the costumer can use the normal 2.1 or use the sense which has great features. Oh and the Desire has a bit more RAM if im not mistaken and the Desire will be sold in store instead of thru the a website like Nexus people like to see what theyre buying ya know. Wish Nexus would sale instore

  • HTC Desire has more RAM than Nexus One.

  • @markusdahlhanssen

the position of each widget is saved within Sense,

as long you don`t delete the Settings

  • very nice,

I wasnt shure is the new 2.1 App Drawer is now stock or just for the Nexus One, but now we know, it`s stock....

  • you can get HTC sence ON the Nexus One also..

    No big difference

  • yes but here, you don't have do download anything

  • So does this mean you get Android updates as soon as the Nexus One?

  • No , you're just changing the interface/removing HTC Sence, so it looks the same as on a Nexus One. You're not changing the whole phones software etc into the same as Nexus One..

  • @AllianceOnlineUK No, you're not "really" turning it into a Nexus One. You're not changing any software..

You're just turning off the interface: HTC Sence, so it uses the Android default instead (just as the Nexus One) .

So all you're changing is the look..

  • No, you're still gonna have to wait for HTC to release the updates which usually takes forever for them to do...

  • I've pre-ordered mine, cant wait! I haven't been able to find if the desire comes with the 3D gallery app like the Nexus One or is it just the HTC Gallery on it?

  • This phone is hawt. It's definitely gonna sell better than the Nexus One for sure.

  • must get this phone

  • i'd rather have sence but for the menu i would have stock and also with the 3d photos gallery

  • Cool!

Does it have the N1 photo app too once you turn off Sense? The one by Cooliris.

  • That's pretty nice...

  • I believe you can do this with any "Sense" enabled Android from HTC, right?

  • does that work on the mytouch from tmobile

  • the way he was changing back and forth thats a nice thing! if u ever get tired u have the option! The best thing is it looks like it comes that way stocked!

  • Cool, but OTA updates will still take months to get to sense phones after they are released by Google.

  • This makes me want the HTC Desire even more. I can choose between sense and the stock android 2.1.

I'm sure this phone will be rooted in about 3 months or less after it is released because people will want to root it because of the power in the phone.

  • Omg PLease STFU and get afucking life u stupid fat ugly whore. OKay? My facts were like 2 numbers away cuz i can't bother being a nerd liek you and memorize every fucking thing about it. so stfu please?? and i know its micro sd it was just a typo

  • Does this mean you could install the HTC Sense Launcher/Homescreen on a Nexus One? Might take some haxxing but...

  • @mantheman100 ok seriously have you EVER even seen an android phone?

  • No. It's HTC's own customized interface.

  • Thanks for a normal responce "AndroidAnyone"

  • @mantheman100

You don't know anything about android do you? Those apps on the pages are your favorites, YOUR most used apps that you want. The other apps are in the launcher you stupid fag.

  • lol. what does cussing for no reason when someone clearly beats you? that means you are a little fanboy and I bet that you are not getting the desire and just saying that to make me to shut up.

  • wtf?? how are you beating me?? just cuz u know some more shit about a cellphone, wtf?? lmao.. ANd i actually did order the cellphone. Its amazing, 1ghz snapdragon proccesor. 5 mgp camera, 560 ram, 516 rom. 32 gB memory stick support.. i know all about this cellphone just that i never seen and used the Android shit since i live in sweden...

  • first of all it supports micro sd not memory stick.

    It has 512 mb ROM.

It has 578 mb of RAM.

5 mgp with a led flash.

    Get your facts straight bitch.

  • @mantheman100 Actually this really hardly bears any resemblance to the iPhone. It's great and I agree on that, but it definitely differentiates itself from the iPhone's UI. examples: Notification bar, launcher, home screen backgrounds/live wallpapers, actual menus, widgets, the extreme ability to customize it. I really don't see the resemblance. HTC Sense UI still pwns though.

  • you can't count and you are just mad that I beat you once again.

I really want this phone and since this phone is probably going to be expensive I do research on the phone before I buy it. Also I didn't memorize the specs. There is a little search engine called Google and you can search for the specs!!!

You sir are a douche bag that. All the stuff that you said that differentiates it from the iPhone is on any android phone, custom UI or not.

    Go fuck yourself. :D

  • @flyingmonkey96 uh ya, i was talking about android in general. idk why ya gotta go and tell me to f*ck myself. Sides why did I get dragged into this conversation anyways? The comment wasn't even aimed at you. It was aimed at mantheman100 cuz he was talking like the UI is iphonish (and its not). Also, anyone think it odd/crap that none of the manufacturer includes atleast a gig of RAM. I think the Sony Xperia X10 has it but the chances of a US release are slim.

  • @AndroidAnyone

Dude sorry I thought that mantheman100 put that comment. Once again I am very sorry. All the insults at the end was meant for mantheman100 not to you. Once again I AM SORRY.

  • @flyingmonkey96 nah its cool

  • Is it Christmas allready? Sue that man! *just kiddin*
