this may be a stupid question but do they let you take your camera into the mazes(haunted houses, etc) or do you sneak them in?

I didn't sneak a camera in. No one bothered me at Universal in 2006. In 2007 it was inconsistent. I would start shooting and usually it was okay; then once in a while some security guard would object. There was no written police against videotaping that I could see. Obviously they don't like flash photography because it ruins the atmosphere, but a night-vision camera is not disruptive.

Look at it this way: If you don't like the Halloween horror stuff, you can still go on the other rides and attractiosn: Jurassic Park, The Mummy, Terminator 3D, etc.

I use a Sony Digital 8 Handycam (DCR-TRV260). It has a night vision function which you cna use with or without an infrared light for extra illumination. Filming outside in the scare zones, the night vision alone is enough; inside the mazes, I use the infrared light, too.

Hahaha, when I went into this maze, at the point just before you enter the furnace area, this couple got so freaked out that they begged this lady to tell them how to get out and so I had to go the rest of the way all alone. NOBODY wanted to go ahead so I went the rest of the way with no other people beside the actors around. I kid you not, it was one of the scarier moments for me. Curiously enough, why wasn't the furnace area shown?

I didn't get good footage from the furnace. As I recall, the room was dark with a strobe light inside the furnace as Freddy crawled out. Om camera, all you saw was darkness with a blinking light. - you couldn't tell what it was.

Another video? It depends. I'm tired of being harassed by the security guards. Still, I'll give it a shot if I can film something I didn't get on camera last time, like the FRIDAY THE 13TH maze. Also the NIGHTMARE ON ELMSTREET maze is supposed to be different this year, and the back lot tour, too. So it should be possible to do a video that's not just a retread of 2007.

They should try to work the scareactors into some attractions. They almost did with Jaws down here in Florida. Part of the Friday the 13th maze was located just a few yards from the shore, so you could watch Jason beating a sleeping bag against a tree as the boat took off.

i didnt really like the jason maze though it wasnt that scary and the chainsaw massacre one was scary and the nightmare on elm street is also scary too

Nice vid man, i went to the one in orlando on opening night and your vid is a lot better than mine. I forgot i had nightvision on my cam. The security was pretty strict about taping inside the houses, your lucky you got such good footage.

the tram ride sucked they treated it as a scare maze instead of a scare zone. they just pushed you through and took me 10 min which last year took me 1 hour. the monsters only have shaker cans which starts to get annoying after a while and also the security shove that camera into your head and keep on saying no recording it should be a scare zone not another maze something they should fix. over all it was great.

Good question. All the signs I saw said, "No video camera lighting." My camera has night vision and does not need lighting, but the security people hassled me anyway. I would suggest being discrete.

i was reading a website of this guy who goes to a lot of theme parks and writes reviews about them that when he went on the tramp and got off they said no cams or video, so he emailed the person in charge of putting thw whole event together and he said he would take care of it since cameras and stuff were part of the experience

I shot normally. Universal has no problem with you filming the scare zones. That's why you'll notice so many actors directing their comments and/or expressions directly at the camera.
