Idiots. Notice that every car in trouble locks their brakes. The trick is to gradually stop and use what little traction you have instead of ruining it further. The guy in the ford knew what he was doing, this is why it helps to drive a manual as well. Engine braking really helps in these situations.

@xtratic Even studded tires aren't idiot proof though. Seriously aggressive snow tires, with studs, on a 4x4, you still can't stop if you're driving like a dink. I've seen a lot of people in Jeeps and Hummers in the ditch, when I've kept my rear wheel drive, full size van with no snow tires on the road. The Intrepid at :45, for example; he couldn't have stopped, no matter what tires he was using. Ice and snow=try going slow. I don't know about MN, but studs are illegal a lot of places, too.
