Thank you Dave, whether that is actually sincere, or not, let me tell you, there were PARTIES in the STREETS!! From COAST to COAST to COAST!! A gold medal in hockey?? OMG!! We were JACKED!!!
I've heard a lot of American hockey fans say the same sort of thing. They recognise how much more the game means to us, and they were actually happy to see us win and enjoy it so much. That's the sign of a truly great friendship.
@bluenoserr ,lol, you watch way to much sctv my friend. maybe in 1980 it was. still waiting for the lumberjacket/kodiak boots craze to come back around.
@Love4SK I know tonnes of Gords and Dougs, but you don't often hear those names outside of Canada. For example: Gordon Pinsent, Gordon Lightfoot, Gordon Howe, are all famous Canucks, but I can only think of one non-Canadian Gordon, and that's Gordon Ramsey.
@Love4SK I couldn't agree more. They should have just changed the lyrics so it wouldn't be so anti-French ("In days of yore, from Britain's shore, Wolfe the dauntless hero came, and planted firm, Britannia's flag, o'er Canada's fair domain" would have to go).
Unless it is played at a fast tempo, "O Canada" sounds like a funeral dirge.
The lyrics suck too. I'm still pissed-off at Harper for waiting until just after the Olympics (when Canada was in a nationalistic frenzy), to raise the longstanding question of whether the anthem should be made gender neutral, and if references to "God" should be removed. The furious and irrational vitriol that most Canadians showed towards that proposal erased much of the new pride in Canada I had acquired.
Yea Dave, TEAM USA's players are all from Canada. What an astounding deduction Letterman. *Facepalm* Can someone please explain to me how that's funny?
haha this is good. Dave knows he wanted America to win ;) jk. But yeah great job to both teams. Amazing tournament. All the players should hold their heads high!
It was so nice to see Canadians giving a standing ovation to both US men and women hockey teams. I was disappointed when Pittsburg Penguins fans booed Crosby's goal after all the things he has done for that team.
I loved the way the Canadian fans gave an ovation to the US players after the game during the medal ceremonies, particularly for Miller who got the MVP of the tournament and deservedly so. Canadian hockey fan who will always be 100% Canadian but loves the US too.
Some of the American players had Canadian parents (moved to the US to play for NHL teams in the 80s usually) but they were all American born. Glad you like hockey Dave! Totally not watching Leno again.
They aren't all from Canada, but mostly yes, it's about 60 to 70% Canadian.

How about the world junior tournament coming up in December in Buffalo?
This New Years the USA plays Canada as a rematch from the last gold medal
game! Can the USA defend their gold medals on home soil?

@bluenoserr , my point exactly, the only gords you can name are on average 80 years old.

"Maple Leaf Forever" is a far better song than "O Canada" and wouldve made a better natl anthem.

@NYIJK10 he's referring to people that play hockey (most people think of canadians) so even players on team usa he jokes, are from canada.

actually Canadas dream matchup would have been Canada/Russia, Crosby/Ovechkin, but yes, Canada is usa's dream opponent.

@Love4SK no your dream match up. just two top players doesn't make for a good game.
