Words fail. These guys are a level above the rest. I started listening to them when I was 5 yrs old and their sound will never get old. I've met all 3 of them several times. Just the greatest guys and band of all time.
Long after these guys are gone, somebody will take this sound and spread it and all the heavy bands will be playing off this vibe and they'll give it a name and call Kings X the fathers of this sound. Kind of how some people may say that Muddy Waters is the father of the Blues.
This is how far ahead of the times I think these guys are, people just can't deal with it yet.
i first met jerry gaskill when he was only 14...with his brother herb on guitar they would play half hour jams of 'wipe out' that were totally amazing!
@MisterCaco I find it more frustrating that their equipment setup doesn't sound like that on the record. The heavy bass cut through split guitar/bass amps, the screaming guitar...I would kill to get them to re-record this song.
And please note in ALL their live performance videos of this song: the big "epic" ending is performed without them ever watching each other. Watch for it.
They are most CERTAINLY a live band, we all have bad nights, try them again and you'll be in for an amazing experience I'm sure. Ive seen them at least a dozen times, they are phenomenal live!

Helmet wasn't even a thought when these guys came out, so respected by a lot of musicians all over, and one of the best shows of all time, I've seen them about 6 times, its a religious experience.And hey they did a hendrix sond remember the last woodstock, look it up.
In a time when most guitar settings were either squealy or flat, Ty brought a sound that re-inspired many guitar players to get technical and tweek their effects. Myself included. I think they are an excellent band and I was truly inspired by them musically. Although I do not much care for their beatles-sounding harmonics, they are indeed astounding musicians. Lost in Germany is my favorite song.
After all these years I find it just totally mind boggling that so few have caught on to the fact that these guys are the real deal! Keep your hit machine over produced pretentious corporate backed vomit that has passed for modern music for the past twenty years. The timing is SPOT on!...but to give away a little secret...when they are coming out of a break, listen carefully and you can hear a 'chip' from Jerry's hihat. He's giving them the cue with one downstroke of his left foot ...about a quarter-note lead in. That's how they can hold those chords however long they want and anyway...Jerry is THE MAN!!

I can't believe King's X has never really gotten their just due. Unfortunately though, in Dug's mind, King's X doesn't seem to exist in the capacity he would like. That is, there are literally millions of fans & artists alike who love them, but hardly ever mention them. The music business is fickle & they don't necessarily, (I'm making an obvious understatement) pick talent and class over what is guaranteed to sell.
But, I agree with you, although I could really, really use ....
the other thing about this band me is this: they are professed (as I am) born again, practicing Christians and although their music rarely invokes the words Jesus or God, their music has a positive, uncompromising, (sometimes blatantly so) message that in no way contradicts traditional Christian orthodoxy yet they are ignored by Christian radio as well as churches where the worship music is necessarily and intentionally cutting edge. i love jars of clay but these guys bring it!!!
King's X hasn't been a christian band since their fourth album in 1992. Listen to the lyrics on Ear Candy. "Religion burned me at the stake/ I guess i lost my faith." Also they never wanted to be considered a christian rock band, just hard rock

they sound fuckin horrible, the snare drum sounds like shit and the guitar riff sounds like i heard it before.
sublime was a much better 3 piece, actually had decent guitar solos unlike this band.

Yeah cause all the Strung Out live videos sound SO great! LOL - I have yet to find a live Strung Out video that doesn't sound like complete ass all around... feel free to point one out where the guitar tone doesn't sound like a buzz saw through an am radio... LOL - all I can figure is you are either (a) Strung Out's publicist (b) In the band or (c) receiving hand jobs from the band 'cause I seriously don't get it... Of course there are technically better guitar players - that can be argued about ANY player - but unlike Strung Out, the idea here is to craft a great song and not a song that sounds like I wrote it on my drum machine in 2 minutes and recorded my guitar tracks with a Zoom processor and then picked some random kid to scream all over it.

AHHAAH both of those songs have guitar solos improvised dude...because the drummer is my friend and he gave me his albums the solos in concert were different.
kings x guitarist is pure shit compared to jerry man.
jerry's playing is alot more original.

I can't believe King's X has never really gotten their just due. Unfortunately though, in Dug's mind, King's X doesn't seem to exist in the capacity he would like. That is, there are literally millions of fans & artists alike who love them, but hardly ever mention them. The music business is fickle & they don't necessarily, (I'm making an obvious understatement) pick talent and class over what is guaranteed to sell.
But, I agree with you, although I could really, really use ....

the other thing about this band me is this: they are professed (as I am) born again, practicing Christians and although their music rarely invokes the words Jesus or God, their music has a positive, uncompromising, (sometimes blatantly so) message that in no way contradicts traditional Christian orthodoxy yet they are ignored by Christian radio as well as churches where the worship music is necessarily and intentionally cutting edge. i love jars of clay but these guys bring it!!!

King's X hasn't been a christian band since their fourth album in 1992. Listen to the lyrics on Ear Candy. "Religion burned me at the stake/ I guess i lost my faith." Also they never wanted to be considered a christian rock band, just hard rock
