"If those in charge of our society - politicians, corporate executives, and owners of press and television - can dominate our ideas, they will be secure in their power. They will not need soldiers patrolling the streets. We will control ourselves." - Howard Zinn
Notice the lack of coverage in the mainstream U.S media to this historic figure, I wonder if they even will give Howard 1% of the coverage Michael Jackson or advertiser Billy Mays got when they died.
American media are just petty corporate mouthpeices, it is not in the interest of their sponsors that people know about such enlightening characters as Zinn, Chomsky, Russel etc.
May people continue to inspire, educate, and agitate as Howard Zinn had done...the banner must be carried on!
Howard Zinn has been one of my greatest mentors. Through his work, I was forged from a young apathetic worker, into a passionate community and labor organizer. This is very sad, and I am just hearing about this at 10:22pm an entire day later.
Howard Zinn was certainly one of those individuals that was working at spreading the truth. His involvement in the Civil Rights and Peace Movements will also never be forgotten.
I'm sorry, but "Prof. Noam Chomsky, do some exercise! live long!" struck a wrong chord with me and I lashed out. I was very upset about Howard Zinn's death. . . and I had a few glasses of wine after I found out, but that is no excuse.

Immense tragedy. I haven't heard any "news" channel talk about his death.
Hopefully new voices of reason will emerge as the very few living now pass on.
