  • Joe Pilato is one of the greatest actors of all time really if he had the chance he might have become even more badass than chuck norris! ok i´ll admite it maybe he´s just cut off to do action stuff etc but this guy could do it! unfortunately we only got to see this in day of the death

  • i wish joe would make a pic inPittsburgh. itruly think this guy can be such a versitile actor. what caniisay- if you dont believeme- CHOKE ON EM

  • Interviewing Rhodes with an Army of Darkness tee? Brave Man! I has that :D

  • I love all of the dead movies and unfortunatly day is hard to come by but thanks to my dauhter I got a version not seen in the uk. I love both these guys an Mr pilates is so different from his character I really hated Rhodes

  • Sherman Howard was also the most brilliant and crazy Lex Luthor on the Superboy TV series between 1989-1992.

  • Such humble people and yet brilliant actors. No offence to Romero but the movies and performances we had back then are SOOO superior to the stuff we have today.

I mean, Day Of The Dead back in '85 was seen to be something of a shell to its predecessors, and yet has turned out to be one of the most dramatic and powerful horror movies I've ever seen.

On the other hand, while watching Diary Of The Dead recently, I lost interest after about 20 minutes because the acting was just so dire.

  • BTW, Here's a little trivia. Pilato was the punk rocker biker in Road Warrior.

  • @TitaniumByFire

I think it was vernon wells . The villian in the movie Commando

  • ...Hell, miguel was a prick in the end just as much as anyone. He sacrificed himself out of spite, even though it put the "good guys" at risk. He was thought of as a "victim", but he was really a whiney self centered wuss.

  • @TitaniumByFire Yeah he was a prick, and very self centered, but he was also in a severe state of trauma. He had been bit( we have no idea what a bite can do to one's mental state) and was awake for his own arm being cut off.

  • ...Rhodes too, which is very fucking upset, and wanting to kill as many as I can, get out, and find a place to relax for what short time I might have on this earth. Even the pilot, "a good guy" brought that up, AND said it was "bullshit". So, how does so many people read rhodes into being 100% a bad guy ????????????? How nice, understanding, and tolerant would any of his characters critics be if in the exact situation ????????? IMO,

  • Ok, the ones who started the research program started it to stop or reverse the zombie process, AND are now either dead because they were killed by those "sympathetic" zombies or abandonded the program. In mean time you have an arrogant mad scientist(even some of the "good guys" even basically said he was) using everyone there so he can have his little fun, you aren't getting paid, you have lost men, and no real "practical solution" according to even Sara has been found. I would be like...

  • This coming from a Latvian....

  • Joe pilato was awesome in day, but that mother fucker ages like shit!!!

  • Captain Rhodes is the best zombie-film antagonist ever and Joe Pilato was probably the best actor in the original trilogy.

  • Best actor my ass..... any of the primary 4 characters in the original "Dawn of the Dead" was better.

  • "Day" is indeed the best zombie movie EVER made. I watched it in 1985 as a 12 year old in my uncle's house... jesus I almost shit myself when Steele and Rickles went to grab some "dumb fucks" from the corral, the tension was unreal.... then when that lady with the lower half of her face missing appeared next to "hat guy" (you only see a glimpse of her on screen, a split second even) I think I screamed! She gave me nightmares :)

If you want to see what she looks like, check the Day DVD extras

  • No, it is not.... the original "Dawn" is the best ever. "Day" is a classic, though.

  • Dawn has a great storyline, but given that the zombies are blue(!) and the effects aren't that hot, it just doesn't inspire terror the same way Day did.

Had George taken the "Day" zombie makeup and pro actors, and applied them to Dawn (removing the comedy pie fight too) then I would have agreed with you.

I hope George makes a zombie movie that fits in between Dawn and Day of the dead, explaining how the National Guard and hunters lost their battle.

  • Well, they were 'supposed' to be grey, and the effects were damaged by that horrific-colored fake blood they bought from 3M. In the commentary, even Tom Savini was saying "...and the color of the blood was *so* bad.... we bought it from the 3M company, and it looked like melted crayon!" Savini had about 7 years to further refine his craft between movies.

I agree with you on taking the "Day" zombie makeup/gore effects and applying them to "Dawn," but I thought the "Dawn" actors were superior.

  • Well, I thought Day was more believable, but Dawn had more action and humour.

Acting wise, the protagonists were equal. But regarding baddies, don't you think Rhodes and Steele were far more intimidating and believable than the gang of bikers in Dawn? If a zombie's behind you would you put your arm into a blood pressure check system? LOL! Mud pie fight? Fat bloke falling into fountain?

I just can't look past the blue zombies - I like my walking cadavers to look like cadavers!

  • @zombiemod I agree the pie in the face scene was stupid. Yes, too many zombies going around with just blue face, but give George some slack as he only had 650k to make Dawn. For Day he had 3.5 million

But you must admit that the sense of dread and the documentary style gave the movie a more realistic effect, especially the helicopter shots where you can see hunters walking for miles shooting zombies.

  • Agree. "Day" is the best of the series.

  • I got to meet "Bub" at HHW Awesome !!!!

  • my god he might be a horror movie legend but joe pilato is an arragant prick

  • Yep, his arrogance is extreme, nothing worse than an arrogant prick.

  • I dropped acid for the first time watching this movie. Great stuff.

  • what trip did you drop i ve dropped a few in my miss spent youth

  • Day of the Dead is my personal fave zombie film. Rhodes was such a prick, but yet I think he's cool. Bub just rocks to no end. Bub is my fave zombie of any Romero film.

I'd love to chat with Joe or Howard.

  • bub was cool tho i like flyboy zombie better! You shouldget amok time bub action figure it costs 17.99$ on ebay!

  • I got the Bub action figure when it first came out. However I spent a pretty penny on him buying from Amok Time directly. I also have the Flyboy one as well, he was not hard to come by at all.

  • well you probly got him long time ago thats why i spent 20$ on flyboy and 18$ on bub im still waiting for bub to arrive. i was never able to get plaid shirt tho ;(

  • Cpt. Rhoads was the only sane person in that movie. A true Republican surrounded by San Franciscans and Detroiters.

  • yeah cos "catching the next train outta here"

    is one helluva plan lol

  • He was the only sane one, you would not FUCK with him lol, in a situation like that you need a clear leader, ebing ncie won't get you that in that situation. Gengis Khan's empire was the largest ever (and that of his son's) he ruled through fear as a means of acquiring respect among his peers.

  • The 2008 remake was way too comic book and could never hold a candle to the 1985 version. Also Bub was THE best zombie ever!

  • somone give this comment a godamn medal!

  • When I was a teen I wanted more action in this movie, HOWEVER, I still think it was one of the best in the line of zombie movies. BUB was THE BEST zombie character EVER!

It was this movie that made me want to act in a zombie movie, but that never came to be, and besides there are so many zombie movies being cranked out the last 20 years it's almost not worth it, also a lot of the newer zombie movies are not all that good. But man I would have loved to star in a zombie film and run around :)

  • Day of the Dead really grew on me, at first it was my least favorite behind Dawn and Night now it is tied with Dawn as my fave.

  • Same here. Day of the Dead was an acquired taste for me too, but now it's one of my faves. The two main reasons being none other than Rhodes and Bub!

  • I liked it from the start but yes, it had to grow on me too, I had to watch it several times and it had new meaning. It's the little subtle things that made this movie great, for example when Bub cut his face shaving, or listening to music. There were lots of stuff that if you watch it again you will notice it. At first I didn't apreciate all the talking scenes but it's what gave it more realism.

  • That was exactly the same for me, the scene when their in the trailer was boring the first time, the second time was more interesting

  • Awesome! Day of the Dead has always been one of my favorite zombie movies... top-notch gore!

  • hell yea man! great job guys.

  • I envy you guys! Great job!!

  • I envy you guys! Great job!!

  • As always, great stuff. Way to go Jay-Ray Connection!

  • "I have no idea what you're talking about..." Haha. that Joe Pilato was great. Good job guys!

  • Jay Reel looks like a Wild Man Carrot Top Zombie!!!
