Romance ruined the film to hell! The action scenes were awesome, but once again love ruins yet another war film.

I used to hate Enemy at the Gates and Pearl Harbor for the romance, but as cheesily overdone as it can get, it's still a decent take on it. BUT, theres also nothin' like I good straight up war movie like Black Hawk Down, I agree.

In the modern world America is weakened but not defeated of course, an act of terrorism can have just as much psychological impact on a nation as all of Hitlers army. If the US did not help Britain out in WW2 Hitler would have won, if the US did not go to war with Japan, Hitler and Japan would have been world powers and teamed up on us on both fronts western and eastern. Then it would have of came down to HItler and Hirohito the Emperor of Japan in a bloody war so either way it would have been communism or dictator rule.

@ZackAssassin The Axis had very limited capability to invade a well defended, well organized nation, an excellent example of this is the UK, if you think the yanks were the total saviors of the Brits you are foolishly incorrect, that is an American myth. Im not diminishing the pivotal role the US played in the war but the Brits were an excellent fighting force. look up the Battle of Britain the Luftwaffe threw all they had at the British Isles and failed to dominate the RAF or prep an invasion.

@ZackAssassin The Japs couldn't even invade Australia and our small but legendary military was virtually all deployed overseas, the concept was that they could invade a major city but not the whole nation due to their small military presence. The same could be said of the US in a proposed invasion by the Japs the concept being even less likely because of Americas large population and liberal gun laws. Even without the US military an armed guerrilla force of civilians could have defended the USA

@ZackAssassin As for Hitler his army's reach was limited and only effective against disorganized nations, his blitzkrieg style of warfare wouldn't have gotten him very far on US soil as the nation is too large and too well armed. Not to mention the German navy was poor at troop transportation and better equipped for submarine and dreadnought combat. If the krauts ever had set foot on US soil they would have met fierce well armed local resistance, something they were unaccustomed to.

Stalin almost had a total revolution on his hands from starving rural communities who were treated very unfairly under the communist regime. Of course were the advancing german troops unprepared for russian winter - the original bythoughts of Unternehmen Barbarossa was to feed the whole Wehrmacht from Russia. In 1941. The fact, that theis whole operation started in June of said year showed how much the Wehrmacht or Hitler anticipated a prolonged war against russia.

And by the way - you overestimate my grandfathers army... success was likely but surely not due. ;-)
