@iamironpenguin Game says Syfa Velnumdes, some other sources say Sypha Belnades, Harmony of Dissonance says Sypha Fernandez. Saifa Verunandesu can be interpreted in various ways.
@dracel10 It's actually Belnades, not Velnades. She was mentioned as Sypha BELNADES ever since Aria of Sorrow, when her great-great-great-great-great-great-great granddaughter, Yoko Belnades, was in that game. Castlevania Nerd, right here.
what is a man? a stupid typo konami america made lol
so that's why she looks like that on SOTN... i guess most of the players and those stupids of captain N where shocked when they saw this, but they could not fix crap even remaking it all over
Are you sure it wasn't just laziness on the part of the developers giving the same line for each character? What did she sound like to you when she got hit?
It may have been laziness at first, but it has since been retconned as her pretending to be a guy so that vampire hunters and the church would take her seriously. And female spellcasters were being crucified as witches, if she were a guy her claim of having the power to fight vampires was more believeable... Medieval Times is pretty sexist.
Maybe not as Alucard is in Symphony of the Night (where he fights against clones of all three of his allies from Dracula's Curse at the same time), but surely there is a way to fight against Alucard in this game as Sypha in this game since she becomes and ally first ... and win.
From what I know, she hid her gender so that she could be a vampire hunter of the church. Of course, that could just be something they came up with latter to cover there translation typo.
Actually the manual stated that Sypha was a dude because it's a plotpoint that she disguised herself as a man so she could fight vampire hunters, later in the series she marries Trevor and their grandson Simon fights Dracula.
@Metafaniel Well, in Japan, there is no word for 'him'. Words like him, her, she, he, you know, gender descriptive words, are genderless. So technically, in Japan, that wouldn't be an issue.
@sirfragalot92 HEY! YOU'RE RIGHT! I haven't thought on that before! (I was so young to think about it too hehe) Even with your plausible explanation, NoA should have translated it right, don't you think?
@sirfragalot92 I don't think so hahaha. You know? Maybe the real reason it's about the programming of the game itself. Based on what you've said about 'him, her, he, she' etc in japanese then I'm almost certain the "Accept him? Yes/No" dialog was a sole piece of code. So the same dialog box appears for all characters. There won't be necessary programing differently so they just used HIM because there were more male characters. Sounds plausible hohoho ñ_ñ
@Metafaniel Well, that's probably true, but of course, you could always argue that they were planning on having it be like Samus at the end of Metroid. AKA they would say it was a guy but then at the end, she takes off her armor. That was actually on purpose, and I remember reading that it was SUPPOSED to be that way here, but Nintendo Power spoiled it like a troll yelling "Snape kills Dumbledore" out the window while driving past a bookstore when Deathly Hollows came out. :P
BEST. C3. ENDING.

She was pretending to be a man for the earlier parts of the game, Trevor fell in love with her and was relieved to find he was crushing on a girl.

A very nostalgic ending indeed, and the music it's just beautiful...
When I ended the game with Sypha the first time I was shocked she actually is a woman O.o!
WHY? Because I thougt she was an old man XD If you read carefullñy when you rescue her, the game asks you "Will you take HIMMMMM with you?"
So I thought it was a man... Or maybe she's a man with blond hair? XDD Naaaahhh haha

@Metafaniel it's because translators back then were incompetent sexists who believed that a woman's only job was to be rescued.

The English Manual also says Samus Aran was a guy, this was meant to keep the endings of C3 and Metroid both secret.
