sooo cute! i wish i had a teacher over here on kauai for that. we are in the water alot, but the steps how to help the beby to feel save even under water in a loving way for sure comes not not intutiv to me. but my babe loves the water, and she slowly gets more relaxed if she goes under for a moment :) Would love to learn and even teach.
Took my daughter to similar classes, and taught my sons the same way. No fear of water for them. They have always enjoyed it, and have been safe around family pool and our lake.
people are pathetic, im now in my teens and ive been swimming since i was that age. I can now swim 2 miles, and its never effected me? so stop being so idiotic and its there choice how they bring up their child. It'll help this little boy in the long run, because what if something bad where to happen at least then he'd no what happens.

This looks so scary. Adults are sitting with their faces outside water and baby is thrown in and shown in water for a long time..I would like to see video where your adults teachers or guardians are inside water as much time the babies are.....else it is really like playing with bab's life as baby cannot speak so you can do anything with it..
@NewEye2World Just a note to come from another point of view - this isnt unsafe - how often have you heard of babys drowning while learning to swim? From what I see the baby is very close to guardians all the time in this video. Babies love water and most love this. How are you going to learn if you are afraid of going underwater? Babies cannot speak but that doesnt mean they cannot communicate. If a baby didnt like it they would cry or get angry. You dont see that in this video.
Just to let you know we certainly never throw a child in and see what happens. We teach them gradually in a loving caring environment. Starting to teach them to hold their breath and working throguh. We never force children.
@awesomem It's a shame that there are so many people in this world who are quick to make stupid judgements like the person did above... and to voice them! These are little children running around youtube posting ignorant comments. What this baby does is awesome, and he obviously enjoys it. I did the same with my son (I also have videos up), and he is a 2 year old swimmer. :-)
@mseastbay SO SO TRUE! My parents had me in the water when I was 6 weeks old (I was born in the summer)... I could swim half a length of the pool by the time I was 3 years old and I now teach swim lessons and swam competitively my whole life. I never had a fear of the water thanks to them! :-)
@awesomem It is abuse NOT to do this!!! I have been a swimming teacher of children and adults for 14 years now... It is hard for parents to do this with their children but it prevents them from developing a fear of the water, which is an irrational fear that would never develop if MORE people did this. Swimming is an important life skill . The children whose parents got them comfortable in the water as an infant are the more successful swimmers.... and their parents did them a great service!
This parents are sick weirdooooos...that poor child have no choise in what he is put through...OMG I cant belive it ,they will mentaly damage him that s for sure ,,who says this is cute ??? yeah the baby ..but not what he have to edure ....i hope is not many pushy parents like this out there ,TORTURE theyr babyes ..u must to be MAD.
@anca20101 you're joking right? The baby is smiling the entire time, it took me 28 years to learn to be comfortable in the water that baby learned it in 13 months.
@anca20101 this guy/girl is bound to be a swim champion, i'm sure he will be more then grateful to his parents for teaching him this earlier, this is not torture
@olddogpark i learnt at 23, you just have to practice on your own, cuz in the end nobody can teach you how to do it, it's a trial and error thing. just go to the pool 2 or 3 times a week and you'll be swimming in a month. there are tons of videos for reference on strokes on youtube so it's really up to you.
@olddogpark kinda the same but i kinda taught myself, then this girl talked me into swimming across a river with her and i nearly drowned...lol just look at a video on youtube, maybe you will learn a few things idk.
This is such a sweet video! What a great example of how infant swimming builds. Especially for places surrounded by water, can you imagine just how helpful this can be? Love it!
@QuanVanLuu- yes it is very convenient for the parents for their child NOT to drown. The kid obviously likes it. It's just like studying I'm sure no one likes it at first. And I applaud both the parents and the child:) both did an awesome job. I'm glad they are teaching their child how to swim:) and just because the kid can swim, doesn't mean they will stop watching him in the pool. It's just an extra precaution they took so that their child doesn't drown!!
It's actually one of those medical things. The sooner you get an infant swimming, the better off they are. Infants can actually shut down their lungs just like in the womb. The more land based we are, the sooner we lose that ability.
@beavertown2006 They do it automatically. It's a natural instinct. And when they are 6 months and younger they will swallow the water rather than inhale.
@beavertown2006 Up until a certain age babies instinctively know not to breathe through their lungs when surrounded by water. If that reflex is exercised before it fades, they can develop the ability to hold their breath easily in pool situations.
this video candy coated these lessons, only showing videos of when the baby was already comfortable. the lessons are actually torturing for the baby, like i said torturing not dangerous. it's like saying torturing a kid into using guns and the end result he is a professional at it is okay. who here is okay with letting a baby cry so that a parent doesnt need to watch their child. It sounds to me its more beneficial for the parents not the baby. And I applaud their child not their parents.
@QuanVanLuu not all baby swim lessons are tortuous. true, some programs force their children under water before they're comfortable, but this program is not one of them. this program is founded on the principal that children should be happy and relaxed in the water before attempting submersions
Seems like he's fighting to reach person to pull him up for air. the slight, rapid movement of arms and legs appear more like a life or death struggle then smooth easy strokes involved in swimming.
