This is a fantastic chance to have a glimpse into the workings of an autistic mind! I am so glad that her family did not give up and take the easy road especially making her type to get things that she wanted enabling her to be able to communicate!
One of the most inspiring videos I have ever seen. It also give a sense of hope to every parent out there that they may someday be able to communicate and understand what there child is feeling. That's all a parent really wants! I'm sure her dad will remember the first day his daughter told him he loved him forever. God bless parents like you that never gave up on her! Congratulations Carly for finding "your" voice!
5 people don't have a clue what they just saw... I think she's amazing! With the help of her supporting and unconditionally loving family and mentors he's found the best way to make herself clear to everyone around her and by now all over the world to give them a better insight in her being and gave a voice to the people who are unable to do so..thumbs up Carly!
This was great!!! Loved it!. There is something I wanted to ask or clarify. I heard a parent of a child with autism. say that she didn't like the "autistic son", and I think she said because you wouldn't say "My cancerous son" this is her son who has autism. I get her point and thought that was a great point. Just saying.
But Loved this segment and wish we could get more out there for others to learn how to teach and find ways to get students with autism to communicate their needs and wants
This is incredible. I have worked in the past with Autistic children and after seeing this I just wish I could see them again and see if I communicate with them more proficiently to understand their thoughts!!! They are so missunderstood by so many..
I remember watching an autistic boy once. He was so interesting. I took him for a walk and I could hear a bird chirping. He just stopped and listened. I could tell he was in there and wanted to get out so badly. I just kept asking him if he could hear the bird and he would kind of smile. Ever since then I've always known they are in there but they are overloaded with sensations. This is an amazing story and I hope it helps more autistic people in the future.
good day, she's amazing, may i know her tweeter account so that i can ask questions about her thoughts, because i have a 14 years old daughter like her, she can talk a little, hope this will help us how to communicate with my daughter, thank you and god bless :-)
She is amazing. I am so glad she is able to help others. I do think there are some alternatives in the way of supplements and detox therapy that could be of great use :)
Always trust your inner voice. This is a true story that happend when i was in school. I had eaten lots of whole grain bread one morning. I know i sould not eat whole grain bread becose my stomache gets upset. My inner voice told me, "dont go to school, you will shit your pants sometime during the day" But i ignored my inner voice and guess what happend?
What a testimony of the power of parental love. May God continually bless and preserve this family is my prayer.
Psalms 31:19-20 NKJV Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! {20} You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.
@HamOnCam No, I am watching what to everyone who researches and works with autistic children is obviously a ludicrous fraud and an irresponsible news media. We see this nonsense. all. the. time. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
@Atlantictire I totally agree. In order to shed some light on the matter it requires actual proof. They can't "sell it" for the sake of selling it. They need to inspire people by actually having handheld proof that's not tampered with in order to help the autistic society, and if it is true it can help so many people. I still chose to remain skeptical to it.
Carly's father is so inspiring to me. I can't imagine what he has gone through as her father but I can see the love he has for her . She is progressing because he never allowed himself to give up on her . Thank you for being such a great example to other parents. You are just as amazing as your daughter.
what an awesome break through. She rates with Temple Grandin in what they have shared about their sense of reality. . may we find ever more ways. . in which we break through to those whose sense of reality has so much more to cope with than our own
"I think people get a lot of their information from so-called experts, but if a horse is sick, you don't ask a fish what's wrong with the horse. You go right to the horse's mouth."
Folks, I can't find any documentation of Carly typing a complete sentence, let alone a paragraph. Fast forward to 08:12 of this video and you see that the camera cuts away in the middle of her typing the word "cute", leading me to wonder if she can even write a singe word. Without better evidence, I'm suspicious that Carly the sassy, boycrazy teen is a fiction invented by her parents and therapists. Can anyone prove me wrong?
@Atlantictire come on, you are watching an edited clip of an amazing break through . . why on earth would they fill time slot with her tediously typing when so much more is shared through the talk
I'm almost 21 and living with mild Aspurger's. You could consider me a lazy genius, I'm really smart yet my grades are averaged in the C range. This story, and this communication is remarkable. I loved every moment of this video, and got abit choked up too! You're awesome Carly, keep it up! :)
Thank you Carly!! My 4 yr old Daughter has had a journey much like yours in many ways!! We have seen amazing things happen in and with her, & you just showed me that we are right to expect and trust that there is so much more going on inside our Izzy then anyone ever allowed us to hope for! Thank you for telling us why she does some of the things she does like flapping & banging her head! I wish Izzy & I could meet you someday!! You are one of our Heros!!! You are an Amazing Girl!!
I recently got cast in a film as a girl with autism, and I am so glad I watched this! This is really an inspiring story and the information is EXTREMELY helpful, both as an actor and in general. Go Carly! You rock, girl.
Amazing!!! my 4 year old is on the spectrum and you give everyone with Autism a voice and hope.
I feel very emotional after watching this video not only with your courage and inspiration, but also as a father watching another father not give up has given me so much more to think about and from me to him, you are an amazing man! (and your so right! who could give up their kid!
These Kids or this kind of autism can be cured......
You'll ask how!!! Well, is't only with Lord Jesus deliverances, and yes if you believe it or not but all the scientific suggestions of being closer to heal those kids or this kind of sickness' is just far too far to cure.. There is one Healer and one Deliverer and He Is Jesus Christ, He is the way, the Truth and the Life.
I am a daughter of the King Jesus and I have faith in My Lord so this kid can be healed by Jesus. Amen
If he can heal her, why can't he heal the millions of people WORLDWIDE affected by the same disability spectrum? why is he waiting? She's a special case along with all the other men/women/children affected by the same afflictions!
This totally blows my mind! Until I saw her on the communications on the PC, I always thought these kids were totally disabled but this proves me wrong. They do have a brain locked inside their body!
Carly! you are beautiful, inspiring, and amazing!!! I thank God for coming across your video......I had been feeling completely hopeless with my severly atusitic son.
Very glad to hear that Carly has found a way to communicate her thoughts and feelings. My son is in the spectrum, so I can appreciate how much her parents have helped her. I hope she continues to develop.
"She would strip of her clothes, she would go into the bathroom and would engage "? fi - co- us- mi- ring-?". So ,the typing was great, but no one could see it."

That's the only part I couldn't translate. Can you guys help me ;0?
I am so impressed and inspired by this video. It challenges our collective prejudice and forces us to reconsider our values. It should be made available for use in schools; it is our duty to open hearts and minds, to value and respect individuality, and to empower those who are disadvantaged. Thank you.
I'm autistic too just like u Carly but I have it mild not to bad I can't talk very good. I talk very slow and people think I'm weird but I'm autistic I don't care what people think.
This is one of the best stories. I have identical twin boys with autism, and commend Carly's parents for what they have done for Carly. "Carly, you go, girl!!" What an intelligent, well expressed young lady, who will go very far.
Hi Carly! My name is Madison and I had autism like you too but I could talk just not as much. My mom and dad had to guess everythink then we tried hangman and that worked but now all of my symptoms went away! Cause we prayed you should pray too!
Wow! This gives so much hope! What a wonderful view into how autism causes the brain and body to work. Thank you for showing how much lies under the surface!!! What a way to pave a road for others who are suffering from autism, and a testament to how hard work and never giving up are always worth it!
@AceInRiver Stop talking about yourself so harsh. This is amazing, to see what they think, I am almost in tears, I will never see a disabled person the same again.
wow that was super touching. I can't imagine what it must be like to be her, or even what her parents felt after these revelations. It's got to help therapy now that therapists can learn what's really going on in her head, and I hope, others like her.
@morsagon & @ Fabrication Films & @momof6live - I work at an autism center that is part of a successful children's hospital in a major city. I would encourage you all to please do your research before you begin to write publicly about vaccines. The ONE study on vaccinations and autism has recently been retracted due to insufficient evidence. This is a major topic in autism that has been refuted for years and has now officially been withdrawn. Please do your part to educate others on the truth.
I love the way Carly described an aspect of autism I see all too often being ignored: sensory integration disorder. Speech, communication and socialization are the big 3, but sensory integration disorder is just as important. I must rock in order to calm my racing body and mind. I have screamed under extreme duress from auditory overload to block the offending stimuli. I am trying to work on how to change my response to hyperacute hearing. I have been since birth when I think about it. Good vid
holy shi*!! I am completely emotional right nowthis child is amazing!! she is a hero to all autistic children and adults! I know more about my own autistic little boy than i did 10 minutes ago. Thank you Carly! xxxx
THIS is why i do what i do every single day! Working with children like this is a privilege! And although it may seem like, at times, they are distant.....they are there...with you....trying their hardest! I love this story!
society expects people to change but we are the ones who need to change...focus on what people can do,not on what they cant and never ever underestimate anyones intelligence
@FabricationFilms, my chiropractor's two sons are both autistic. They have never had a shot. He used to have a radio show where he frequently attributed autism to vaccinations. Now we believe there are many causes. My children are not immunized, but one of my sons has Sensory Integration Disorder. So, perhaps we should say: in PART thanks to mercury in vaccines.
This is so amazing, and very sad. It's sad that some of these children have no way of truly expressing what they want to say. But it's amazing how unique their brains work from everyone elses.
Carly, you are in the best position to help others with autism. I hope you go on to be a famous neuropsychologist and prove to the world that people don't have to be "typical" to be important and make a difference in this world.
Wow so inspirational, To the family who holds this miracle child....Yes MIRACLE! I am so overwhelmed with JOY to see such parents that show the meaning of Love for there kids,,, CARLY you are very special and you do not need to think you need to be NORMAL ...YOU ARE above NORMAL and better than any givem NORMAL person! I hope you get this chance to read my comment and please feel free in commenting back...Also I have a son 16 he is CUTE! My prayers to you and your family!
What an outstanding Video. So glad Carly is doing much better. I have a daughter with Down syndrome and is developmently delayed, so the professionals tell me. Love the video but if you didn't cry when watching, well.......
I would like to communicate with carly if she would like to communicate with me! I do not have a kid with autism, but my young daughter has Down syndrome. But I would just like to be her friend.
This video is very encouraging. I have a 6 year old who is severely autistic. He too has a typical twin sister. He has a little bit of language, but only when he wants to speak. This helps me understand some of his behavior and strengthens my resolve to never give up hope.
I completely understand, My sixteen year old brother is severely autistic as well, with very little verbals that are only used with prompts. This is unbelievably inspiring!

Carly, you are in the best position to help others with autism. I hope you go on to be a famous neuropsychologist and prove to the world that people don't have to be "typical" to be important and make a difference in this world.

WOW. you are amazing.
I was watching this video with chills up my spine.
We are so oblivious to other, different types of people.
here you are, a smart, funny and NORMAL girl, caged by a physical difference. Carly, good luck, you will reach high and touch the stars!

what a fantastic family carly has!
i have a 19 year old son with autism, denver patrick, and he loves typing in his computer but not the way carly use to communicate.
i know he is intelligent and speaks a few words. as a mother i understand him.
carly and her family inspire me to do more for denver. and hope that he will achieve the development carly reached.
