  • This horse IS the greatest! Ruffian is even BETTER than Secrateriat!

  • Foolish pleasure and ruffian had the same Grand sire. Bold Ruler. Funny heh?

  • i whould love to see ruffian vs secratariat. to bad around this time isnt secratariat dead?

  • @TheDragonLake he retired to stud when she was a yearling. he retired in 1973 and she started racing in 1974

  • why did she only have leg wraps on her hind legs?and not her front ones?

  • @MrBibblerocks Because her fronts would kick the dirt behind her. It's to protect her hind legs.

  • my boy has just suffered from a hairline facture :'( but hes strong and pulling through <3

  • @sayitasiseeit no, they used alot of yearlings....fillies and colts.

  • Why do the really good racehorses always get hurt? Just look to Ruffian, Barbaro, Eight Bells and other ones

  • Listen to the trainer NO MATCH RACE, bottomline

  • i do wish they used all mares for this movie...its obvious in some parts that they used a gelding/male horse. :/

  • i love this movie!!!<3

  • u see im been trying to tell u that. lol. but o well i only care about the horse.lol.

  • i dont think "ruffian" likes the cast

  • i love ruffian and alex!!! the horse

  • and well it does looks like a colt couse it has a boy part. and ruffian doesnt have that. im not judge u or the movie u know i can tell the difference between a colf and a filly.

  • @mscatydid96 The horse who played Ruffian is an ex-racehorse gelding.

  • @mscatydid96 Yup, Ruffian was a filly, but they actually used, I think, 3 different geldings to make this movie.

  • o. well in the pictures it shown black and white or maybe i was wrong. wow im so stupid.

  • i love ruffian and i love secretariat but i believe secretariat would of whooped foolish into shape for racing his queen

  • i think this horse that is playing Ruffian is a colt. isnt that right. and ruffian wasnt around in 1970's. she was like somewhere 1940's. isnt that right? u know? i mean like ruffian passed before secretariat. so yea. but do love Ruffian but this is a colt that is playing her. but i do love the movie.lol. dont get me wrong.

  • @mscatydid96 Ruffian Was Aorund In The 1970's Not The 1940's

  • I've heard of Ruffian but I knew nothing about her. She is amazing!!!!! This is a great movie for a great horse.

  • Even if Ruffian and Secretariat had a foal, it wouldn't matter whether or not they were related. A LOT of horses are interbred. Impressive (AQH) has several descendants that were created through interbreeding, and there's a lot of other horses that do too. :P I'm not saying it's right, but even though they're relatives, that wouldn't have stopped their breeders if they'd had a foal.

  • i thought ruffian and foolish pleasure had the same jockey, so why is the other one riding foolish pleasure not the porta rican (if iv spelt that right) one

  • the whole soundness problem with ruffian is just ruffian, it isnt cos they race them as fillies or colts, racing them as fillies n colts actually helpes prevent injuries (a big myth that it makes them worse) iv been following racing for years, flat and national hunt and i cant think of any filly or colt who gets injuries as often as ruffian did, an amazing horse such a shame she had a soundness problem

  • @alliegirljls13194 You Don't Know How To Spell Sire And Her Sire Reviewer Had Problems With His Leg And It Ran In The Family because in a paddock accident at Claiborne Farm he broke his leg and had to be euthanized.

  • @BLAH4601

    Perhaps Hot N' Nasty

  • @DraculaGal31 Yes I know I said that they were half brothers and that makes Secretariat and Ruffian related!!!!!! How much do u want 2 have kids with 1 of ur relatives??

  • @SquirrelySrsly Ruffian and Secretariat are related because Ruffians sire Reviewer is half brother to Secretariat because his sure is also Bold Ruler so it would be inbreeding which in my opinion is not a good idea.

  • @iluvzenyatta Actually, Reviewer and Secretariat would have only been half siblings if they shared the same mother, it doesn't count as half siblings if they share the same father.

  • Great movie yet there are quite a few details wrong

  • Imagine if Secretariat and Ruffian had a foal.

  • @SquirrelySrsly yeah, a lot of breakdowns...and/or laminitis....

  • @SquirrelySrsly Unfortunately Secretariat was a pathetic sire. No one wants anything out of him- their worthless. Same with Seabiscuit.

Now if she had a foal with Northen Dancer then it would probably be worth at least 50k as a yearling.

  • @GuitarPansy except if it was a filly she gave birth to, if she ran somewhat decently, she might be a good broodmare. secretariat was always a better broodmare sire than anything.

  • @SquirrelySrsly that would be one beautiful and fast foal!

  • ummmmm how could anyone dislike Ruffian?

  • Even Lucien lauren, who was the trainer of Secretariat said that even Ruffian was probably better than Secretariat.

  • Dr. Fager was better the Damascus, but to say a horse wasn't as good as the Doctor is no insult.

  • lol at 00:40 ruffian is takking huge slow strides and the horses behind her are taking fast little ones lol thumbs up if you notice!

  • here an advice!:Don't cheer before the horse actuallygoes over the finish lines. cause you don't don't if the horse is going to hurt him\her self

  • Ruffian Is Hands Down My Favourite Race Horse EVER

But I had No Idea She Was Faster Then Secretariat????

  • Imagine if they bred Foolish Pleasure and Ruffian together. What would the foal be like? xD

  • @LovelyTerror3241 i wonder what'd they'd name the foal... like, if they combined the names of both would it be "Foolish Ruffian"??

  • @LovelyTerror3241 That doesnt mean much Pharlaps parents didnt win a race between them, sometimes have to go back further in the pedigree.

  • @taykyl001 Agree you have to look further than pedigree a lot of time and parents doesn't assure anything (like no Barbaro brothers have half the talent of their big bro), but sometime...look at Better than honour :P 2 Belmonts winners for her, including the first filly in 102 years to win it, and a Breeders' Cup winner. Once in a while you have a great mare that produce a lot of great foals :D

  • Wow! Track record after track record! I hate to see the fracture part! They race them too young!!

  • @EarthREALTOR actually, ruffians dam or shir (cant remember which) had weak bones thats why she has them too, she just has a soundness problem, people think that its cos they race them too young when actually its the other way round, they race them young to help prevent injuries, thats one of the biggest myths about racing

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. Didn't realize that Ruffian had Native Dancer as a damsire. Although it was her genes that greatly contributed to fragile bones...if she'd been by a different sire, she might even have made the last race. But she was brilliant, winning all her races before the last one, a match race between her and champion colt Foolish Pleasure.

  • Muscles on his eyebrows huh? That's what Bill Nack said about Slew.

  • Ruffian ran faster than Secreteriat :O ? wow!.. the horse that plays Ruffian in the movie is beautiful that's for sure! :)

  • I like how he puts the horse ahead of anyone else. He's a wonderful man.

  • @whiteash002 Me too. If the horse is sick, the horse is sick. They got to get use to it! :)

  • 4:06

Oh man I love this rat face x3

  • I love Ruffian!! she so awesome.

i loved Foolish Pleasure in his little colt race. His ears forward and he was like 'WEEE!!! im running!! whoo!" little did he know Ruffian was a beast.

  • I spent a week buried in the American Racing Manual's race by race ststistics for only two horses - Secretariat and...Ruffian. I dissected track variants, biases, distances, trips, internal fractions, final times and speed ratings.Pound for pound, stride for stride and every tick on the teletimer told me the same thing. As two year-olds, Ruffian was clearly faster than Secretariat. Check the figures if you doubt me. But there's more to this than just two year-old seasons, as I soon found out.

  • Do they ever tell the name of the horse who played Ruffian? Or do they use multiple horses?

  • @RainTheLeadmare they use multiple horses but one main but idk the name..........it doesnt tell you on imbd............

  • beautiful Ruffy, RIP

  • i love this film but the ending is so sad!! :*(

  • My father and I watched the great match race from Belmont Park that July day in 1975. By then, I had already seen Secretariat win the 73' Triple Crown, destroying the Belmont Stakes field. And had also seen Ruffian's amazing run of races as well. I was a full blown racing junkie right along side my dad. It was shocking to see Ruffian break down in mid-race that day. Just shocking. The sport had lost a real start. I still think, years later, that Ruffian would've beaten Foolish Pleasure that day.

  • That trainer knows his horse

  • @hunterjumper70 - How good was Frank Whitely? Don't look at Ruffian's record to rate Whitely. Instead, look at what he did with the horse that trainer Sherril Ward nearly ruined. Look at how Whitely managed to train a 1 and 1/4 mile specialist up to a 7 furlong sprint, after a 7 month layoff, against champion sprinter Dr. Patches. Look at the comment line. "Won handily." Whitely took an oversized, ungainly horse and made him the most versatile racehorse to ever set foot on a racetrack. Forego.

  • @BillyLevine - While I agree that Frank Whitely was a outstanding trainer, he did not take "an oversized, ungainly horse and made him the most versatile racehorse to ever set foot on a racetrack". Mr. Whitely did terrific job extending Forego's career, but by the time he got Forego in 1976 Forego was already the horse of the year in 74 and 75. Forego was also the sprint champion on 1974, the same year he won the Jockey Gold Cup at 2 miles. Forego was already "The Mighty Forego".

  • I remember when I first got a Ruffian statue. xD

  • they forgot the sock on ruffian's hind foot

  • @10493929 how can you tell the difference between a stallion and gelding?i know its a stupid question, but i really dont know the difference!!

  • @DestinyRed23 A gelding is a stallion that have had his balls removed.

Geldings are calmer than the stallions. However, since they're of no value when it comes to breeding, they're not as expensive as the stallions when it comes to sale.

  • @Ciklide oh ok thanks

  • @Ciklide - Uh, I think you mean 'testicles'. The procedure is refered to as a castration or, having them 'gelded'.

  • @Jefferdaughter Also refered to as castration, yes.

  • why did people people think he killed ruffian ?

  • ya things just happen that nobody can rly help it is a real shame.

  • what ever happend to foolish pleasure did he end up doing good in his racing career??? bc i never heard anything rly about him becoming a champion or anything

  • yeah same here!

  • That is not the same voice as Spirit. Matt Damon did the voice for Spirit, read the ending credits.

  • alliegirljls13194 it is the same voice from spirit I played them at the same time

  • this is a good movie

  • is this a australian movie?

  • the voice who sometimes ses stuff in the movie, he speaksa at the beginning of this, i swear iv heard his voice somewere before, i think he does the voice of spirit in the film spirit: stalllion of the cimmarion hand up whos seen in??? i have and if u aint then watch it its the best

  • maybe that would be cool causethe narrator in spirt is matt damon

  • actaully its not the same narratar

um it is the same narratar in the sandlot though

  • best horseracing movie ever. With Seabiscut in second place.

  • When you're against Ruffian in a race, it's always a race for second!!!!!
