Good use of the Jack of diamonds. The Jack symbolizes the puppet, the diamond- money, great vid, never noticed this before in the vid, thanks for sharing!!
This band's drummer, Cesar Zuiderwijk, owns a music bar/music school in my neighbourhood. I used to see him sometimes as a kid when I took drum lessons.
Just heard this song on the raio coming home from school this morning. Now it's on my phone and stuck in my head....apparently I'm in the twilight zone
military life in the 80's peacetime was nothing but a party, I never saw so many soldiers that blazed up and drank so much beer....those were the days....young, dumb and full of cum as we used to say...LOL
Pretty scarry what a Mother may dance like at a daughter's wedding with this... coming up in JUNE 2012. Have alway's loved this song. Still feel 28 but much older.... but can still move it pretty well.. OMG she'll be really put out!
The U.S.S. Grit! The U.S.S. Grit! The U.S.S. Grit! The U.S.S. Grit! The U.S.S. Grit! Grit your Teeth, all of You! You! You! You! You! It's all in The Twilight Zone!
@vadennotbaden don't matter what your doing or what your intentions were, mentioning his name to incite a negative is trolling and many people would rather kick your sorry ass than have you intentionally try to piss people off.
@Thelonesniper - The song was inspired by the classic TV series "The Twilight Zone", as was the musical arrangement, especially the bass line and the story is about a spy/assassin who has apparently gone rogue. At least that's what it seems to me.
i think its that the song taps on blues funk disco and the video with those sexy women man few videos in that great mtv age standout like this .Golden Earing's greatest achievement TOAST!
Just remembered this song while talking about twilight zone. Golden Earring huh? Never would have guessed that. Great song. Seems like something Pink Floyd would write, which is my favorite band. Gonna look for my by these guys.
No great music in the 80's? If you were into the charts, then no, if you knew where to look had an open mind, and let your ears listen, then there was some awesome music out there in the 80's, this is just one of them :)
@TheArjan10 no offence dude but your only 15 your generation hasn't done anything with music yet. You still have a chance to make something from it!!!!
@TheArjan10 I'm in my 20s and I recognize when somebody is 15 because they saw a funny YouTube comment being shared on an image board site and thought, 'Hey, I can be that glorious top comment, just like that guy...YEAH! I WILL BE KING OF THE WORLD!!'... But yeah, you fuckers ruined music.
@TheArjan10 and as a guy that grew up in the 80's I want to say sorry for Poison, Def Leppard, Madonna, Ratt, Bon Jovi, New Kids on the Block, Cinderella, Whitesnake, Debbie Gibson, Warrant, Tiffany, Skid Row, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, The Pointer Sisters, Salt N Pepa, Janet Jackson and all the other endless shitty corporate music that came out of the 80's.
It's not your fault. The 80's saw the return of Payola, and it was all downhill from there.
@acyfish123 there was some good rock in the early 80's and good new wave, ska and punk in the later 80's, but that hair band shit was terrible. and the bubble gum pop was stupid lowbrow puke.
in the 80's i mostly hated that corporate radio garbage. My favorite bands were The Misfits, The Dead Milkmen, Depeche Mode, The Ramones, The Cure, New Order, Metallica (80's only,) The Housemartins, The Police, The Damned, Big Black, The Exploited, The Dead Kennedys, stuff like that.
@THECARS7879 You WERE arguing, even though "it don't pay." But as soon as I got you liking teenie mall pop you quit. I can see the red on your face from here.
@jwallbanger wait ?Motley Crue ? Whitesnake? Skid Row? Ratt? Aerosmith? yeah, what do you listen to then Justin Bieber? the 80s were one of the best decades ever so sorry for you
@THECARS7879 Those bands were corporate horseshit then and they're corporate horseshit now. In the 80's I liked good music, which unfortunately was very rarely played on the radio and never on MTV. Justin Bieber is just another corporate created teen idol.
In the 70's it was David Cassidy. The 80's had Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. The 90's had Hansen and Backstreet Boys. They pump out corporate shit for every demographic to drool on.
@jwallbanger yeah i like hair metal because it was happier music then grunge, It had glitz and glamoure. Motley Crue has been around for 31 years and counting , heading to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They re better then anything out there today . I like Debbie Gibson too. And just because the media is behind them. They arent bad.
@THECARS7879 Are you fucking kidding me? I mean, ARE you fucking KIDDING me? Don't lecture me about taste in music when you said without a hint of irony that you like Debbie Gibson's teen idol bubblegum kiddie mall crap. No one but teenage girls and retards ever bought her terrible, terrible albums. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??? NOT EVEN GAY GUYS LIKE DEBBIE GIBSON!!! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??????
@THECARS7879 Uh oh, looks like I got ya. It's obvious by the way you seem to have nothing left but name calling. I can't believe you like Debbie fucking Gibson. That just kills me.
@THECARS7879 excuse me, I meant to say only PRE-TEEN girls bought debbie gibson. Once they became teenage girls they moved on to Warrant, and Poison, your other favorite kind of 80's garbage. Are you female? I certainly hope you are. You don't sound female but that's your only excuse for liking music marketed to tween and teen girls.
My fisrt concert I have had ever witnessed was a show from the golden earing it was in february 1984, now I have no doubt that 1984 was the best year of rockn roll heavy metal etc.
@superbuds0714 Its art is in its simplicity...as a bassist myself I can tell you, the bass line on this one is DECEPTIVELY Simple! Its a very tonic line, and sticks to the guitars, and he resists the temptation of flourishing and embelishing the chord structure laid out by the guitar. His name is Rinus Gerritsen , and is one of the founders of Golden Earring. The drummer kicks ass as well.
the original 1911 was made by colt. several arms manufacturers make copies of it now, springfield being one on them. and they all sound tinny like the original colt. classic, trademark sound.
At a gun range if it's quiet it's not live. When someone walks in with a target one of the men yells out "we are going live" you here someone loading the gun cocks and a very short explosion depending on what caliber and weapon type the .22 range pistol is the quietest gun while the .44 magnum is a big boomer.
@66650cal666 OK SON let me school ya a bit the 1911a1 desinded by John Browning, originaly made by Colt was made by many manufacturers durring wwII because Colt simoly could not keep up, among these were GE, Singer sewwing macine co. Thompson firearms AND Springfield Armorry, Springfield still makes them today and I own 5 of them all TOP NOTCH weapons along with several Colts, also good weapons. here endeth the lesson.
Never seen Terra Nova, but wouldn't it be Kewl to take a modern air wing or carrier group back to WW2 & Straighten 'Em Out in about 45 minutes or so ? H3ll, lets do the same thing back to 1865 & let the SOUTH win this time....Mbwahahahaha...

I love the psychadelic/cinematic verite ... of his final drug induced trip into the "twighlight zone" (his full-on theater performance with his adversaries to a packed house - in his mind).. as he is injected.. then dragged out to the wall for his step into the twilight zone.. very Roger Waters-esque ala The Wall... BRAVO

AWESOME video! One of the best of the golden years of MTV!
Just one quibble: if you're going to post the lyrics, how can you NOT post the badass spoken lines at the beginning?
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room there's a guy starting to realize that Eternal Fate has turned it's back on him. It's 2am."

Father: That's what we like to call Dutch talent.
Kid: Really? What's the secret?
Father: Weed, hash and a lot of liquor...

BRAVO
