Really bad comparison. Maybe use boot camp instead next time? That way you can test it on the SAME computer. Windows Vista is really fast for me. It starts up in like 25 seconds for me to the login screen. And, my computer is average.
The thing about old people, if they want to use a computer it is easier to use a mac since it is very simple. To get used to a Mac you can just watch the guided tours online for about everything u need.

1. Are these computers brand new? The start up time depends on how much free space and desktop space you have. If not, then obviously one doesn't stand a chance.
2. For the iMac, there is an auto log in, but for the vista there was. That wasn't so fair.
It is cheaper because of all the companies that payed to have their trial software on your newly bought computer. Macintosh doesn't have any trial software when you buy it.
It is a fact that Mac's will run fast with lesser hardware, because they are more efficient when it comes to running the OS. It takes a fuckload to run vista and its crappiness.
You can't compare Mac to a pc because apple is just smart... you pay for what you get. I payed 2400$ for my mac, and i've had it for 3.5 years, and it's fucking still kicking all of those piece of shit PC's coming out with quad core 4 gig of useless ram that some software wont even use. try the new aluminium mac with 2.0ghz, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd and whatever else it has vs a sony either fw with 2.0ghz 3gb ram and 250gb or a higher more expensive one, not a cheap dell.

I use Mac's in school for graphical purposes, but it lags when I do something.

I'm happy. I'll admit, Vista is MS's best OS to date, but it is still crappy. Also, putting more ram in the mac will make it faster too, but it just comes to show that windows don't utilize it very good. I could have 512mb in the mac and be fine just slightly slower. But it you half it down to 512 with windows, it will be WAY slower with WAY more errors. What was once said about macs "Made by Humans, for Humans" holds true to this date.

No, many of my friends have gotten vista on their old computers with less specs and it would not work properly at all. This computer is 2.5 years old and I can tell you it will not work at all on this thing. There have actually been tests done.
Yes, they are alot more expensive but in the end they're really worth it.You don't have to worry about viruses and they're loaded with features like motion sensors, ambient light sensors and backlit keyboards (the point of the motion sensor it to protect the hard drive) they are far nicer to own.And you can run any OS you want.

Windows and OSX boot up differently. Unix based systems (ala OSX) load everything before getting to the desktop, so you can just click and go at full speed. Windows loads around 60% before desktop and the last 40% when it's on the desktop. That's why PC's tend to be slow for a moment or so after boot up because it's still loading things. Boot up times are generally a poor comparison of OS's anyway. Now, comparison of hardware (on the same software) is where it's a reasonable comparison.
Well, for the PC, I'd either take a fully tricked out HP or Macbook Pro running boot camp any day over Alienware. Dell uses cheap quality ram and cheap overall build quality on their laptops, and also they own Alienware now. But, since Alienware is in its own division, they are still better than just a plain Dell, my friend has an Alienware which is totally awesome. BTW, I don't play games on my computer anyway.
I've used both as well, and I can say for a fact that my Acer laptop with windows Vista stays on par with most macbooks. I'm thinking about upgrading the ram to help improve its speed.

Well, I myself am a big IT guy. I have a computer science degree and can definitely say that it would be nicer to have to macbook pro than the regular macbook. Also, I work for a company that uses Mac, so I see your point too.
Vista won't support more than 4gb of RAM unless it's the 64bit version, and the 64bit version only officially supports 128gb (Microsoft have always been rather poor at memory/resources management). Also, so long as it's Intel based you can put the same hardware in a Mac as a "PC", so your argument is rather ignorant. OSX makes better use of the hardware too, it'll run faster than Windows with the same set up due to how it's programmed to handle resources.
the older apple computers came with only 7 gb of hard drive. but windows xp comes with over 200gb of hard drive. plus most stuff doesn't work with crappy mac!

The fact they allow you to do it out of the box without any 3rd party software can be seen as a very smart move. Apple don't care if you run OSX, Windows, Linux, BSD, Unix... they even give you ways to do it with officially develoepd and supported software. It's just another way Apple care about it's customers, they allow them more freedom by being able to run damn near any peice of software on their machines, so long as that software suppots x86 based CPU archetecture.
i no people have said it before but it is unfair to compare startup and shutdown speed on 2 differnt laptops with completly differnt specifications. its not a fair test, and also safiri will probebly load up slower on vista becasue it is still in beta for windows.

Well I like Macs for the compatability of them, with windows and linux on it, all 3 booted at the same time, no crashing either, you can basically put anything you want on it.
i have both high end PC with XP (had vista and it sux!) and high end Mac Pro. I must say - Microsoft blows chunks and rips off OS features. changing locations and or names does not mean they are different! (i.e. spotlight, quick look features ect ect)
Unix based OS's boot up differently to Windows. Unix systems load everything 1st before getting to the desktop and allowing you to do whatever it is you wish to do. Windows loads up around 60% of what needs loading and then the remaining 40% when it actually gets to the desktop. That's why in Windows it's usually slow as hell to do anything for the 1st minute or so after boot up. It's just the way they're programmed. You know Vista was almost as fast as the Mac booting up, so I have to suggest that it might even be faster if it had a Core 2 Duo, not just a Core Duo (which is much slower) and a faster clock speed.

They both certainly have problems. If I new how to write computer code really good, I would get a good Linux, and make it just how I would want it. If a program messes up on Mac OS you can't just delete it then reinstall, you have delete many other things too, and I don't particularly like the stability of Windows that much either.
I saw a video similar to this on youtube where the comparison was between a MacBook Pro (top end) and some top end Dell (I think).. AND with an older Mac iBook G4. Obviously the MacBook Pro booted up first - but was the last one to be turned on. The old iBook just missed beating the top end Dell by like a second or two. Not bad for an old Mac huh? :-) From experience Mac OS X boots up faster than any windows I've ever owned.
there will always be competition between fan boys of which is better. To be honest i prefer windows. That doesnt mean i hate macs i just have prefence. The war is good, that means each will always try to outdo the other, creating some of the most amazing technology we will ever see. Nice video, but I'd say do another video with more things to be done. Like have a heavy photoshop file on both. Use exact file for both machines, and make sure the specs are pretty close or the Windows version is higher that way Microtards will have no excuse. So they turn on the computer and open the file in photoshop, and please make sure there is no log in box on any of the computers.

Also, putting more ram in the mac will make it faster too, but it just comes to show that windows don't utilize it very good. I could have 512mb in the mac and be fine just slightly slower. But it you half it down to 512 with windows, it will be WAY slower with WAY more errors. What was once said about macs "Made by Humans, for Humans" holds true to this date.

No, many of my friends have gotten vista on their old computers with less specs and it would not work properly at all. This computer is 2.5 years old and I can tell you it will not work at all on this thing. There have actually been tests done.

Yes, they are alot more expensive but in the end they're really worth it.You don't have to worry about viruses and they're loaded with features like motion sensors, ambient light sensors and backlit keyboards (the point of the motion sensor it to protect the hard drive) they are far nicer to own.And you can run any OS you want.

Windows and OSX boot up differently. Unix based systems (ala OSX) load everything before getting to the desktop, so you can just click and go at full speed. Windows loads around 60% before desktop and the last 40% when it's on the desktop. That's why PC's tend to be slow for a moment or so after boot up because it's still loading things. Boot up times are generally a poor comparison of OS's anyway. Now, comparison of hardware (on the same software) is where it's a reasonable comparison.

Well, for the PC, I'd either take a fully tricked out HP or Macbook Pro running boot camp any day over Alienware. Dell uses cheap quality ram and cheap overall build quality on their laptops, and also they own Alienware now. But, since Alienware is in its own division, they are still better than just a plain Dell, my friend has an Alienware which is totally awesome. BTW, I don't play games on my computer anyway.

Vista won't support more than 4gb of RAM unless it's the 64bit version, and the 64bit version only officially supports 128gb (Microsoft have always been rather poor at memory/resources management). Also, so long as it's Intel based you can put the same hardware in a Mac as a "PC", so your argument is rather ignorant. OSX makes better use of the hardware too, it'll run faster than Windows with the same set up due to how it's programmed to handle resources.

From that comment I'll assume that you don't really know all that much about computers, which is fine, nobody knows everything. You have to realise that a "Mac" is not just the operating system, it's the hardware too. You can run pretty much anything on a Mac machine because they're practically the same in principle.

Sorry to bust you PC inflated ego of knowledge but there is 1,024MB in a GB, so 16,000MB of RAM is actually closer to 16GB(not 16TB) same as Mac. And the same goes for your calculations with the hard drive so 100,000MB would still be only roughly 100GB(which is still incorrect).Also, Mac currently offers 2 3.2 Quad-core processors, that's 8(eight) 3.2GHz processors in one mac. Not saying either is faster, but if your going to bitch, know what you are talking about, because you sound stupid.

The fact they allow you to do it out of the box without any 3rd party software can be seen as a very smart move. Apple don't care if you run OSX, Windows, Linux, BSD, Unix... they even give you ways to do it with officially develoepd and supported software. It's just another way Apple care about it's customers, they allow them more freedom by being able to run damn near any peice of software on their machines, so long as that software suppots x86 based CPU archetecture.

i no people have said it before but it is unfair to compare startup and shutdown speed on 2 differnt laptops with completly differnt specifications. its not a fair test, and also safiri will probebly load up slower on vista becasue it is still in beta for windows.
i prefer windows as it is what i grew up with, and i dont like macs becasue of the compatibility of them and i just dont understand them. but i would love to get 1 to see what there like.

i have both high end PC with XP (had vista and it sux!) and high end Mac Pro. I must say - Microsoft blows chunks and rips off OS features. changing locations and or names does not mean they are different! (i.e. spotlight, quick look features ect ect)

Unix based OS's boot up differently to Windows. Unix systems load everything 1st before getting to the desktop and allowing you to do whatever it is you wish to do. You know Vista was almost as fast as the Mac booting up, so I have to suggest that it might even be faster if it had a Core 2 Duo, not just a Core Duo (which is much slower) and a faster clock speed.

They both certainly have problems. If I new how to write computer code really good, I would get a good Linux, and make it just how I would want it. If a program messes up on Mac OS you can't just delete it then reinstall, you have delete many other things too, and I don't particularly like the stability of Windows that much either.

I saw a video similar to this on youtube where the comparison was between a MacBook Pro (top end) and some top end Dell (I think).. AND with an older Mac iBook G4. Obviously the MacBook Pro booted up first - but was the last one to be turned on. The old iBook just missed beating the top end Dell by like a second or two. Not bad for an old Mac huh? :-) From experience Mac OS X boots up faster than any windows I've ever owned.

Nice video, but I'd say do another video with more things to be done. Like have a heavy photoshop file on both. Use exact file for both machines, and make sure the specs are pretty close or the Windows version is higher that way Microtards will have no excuse. So they turn on the computer and open the file in photoshop, and please make sure there is no log in box on any of the computers.
