actually you can keep just keep adding hot water...when we were in south america most of the locals carried their mate (gourd) and bombilla around with the yerba (some weeks old in there) around with thermoses of hot water. The one they used in the vid is one of the cheaper and popular kinds (Canaria from Brazil)
